Verizon has just released a Trade-In Program website where you can send in your old phones for a Verizon gift card. I certainly hadn't heard any peep about this and then all of the sudden, blam, it's up.

I took the liberty of pricing out some of the more popular Android phones and here's what we have as far as pricing based on "mint condition" phones as Verizon see's it:

Motorola Droid - $52
Motorola Droid 2 - $72
Motorola Droid X - $124
HTC Droid Eris - $132
HTC Droid Incredible - $152
Google Nexus One - $132
LG Ally - $92
HTC EVO 4G - $132

Now, I'm not so sure why the Droid Eris holds up value so well, especially compared to the Droid X but that's how Verizon see's it apparently. My guess would be that Verizon is low on replacement units and thus prices the trade-in value accordingly.

You can check out the website at this URL: https://www.trade-in.vzw.com/

That Droid Incredible sure does hold it's value well! Your thoughts?

VZW is selling pre-owned Incredibles on their website for 149.99! They can turn around and sell mint-condition incredibles for almost the same price as they are paying w/a two-year contract. What's with the droid2? It just came out and it's only worth $72??? At least the X is holding it's value better!

Gazelle will give you $323.00. That translates into a selling price of close to $400.00 if you sell it to a private buyer. Verizons prices arent even remotely competitive.

I would say the price is inverse to the demand. If someone returns a phone under warranty they send them a phone (usually a refurb). Verizon will pay more when they know they have a higher demand (phones with problems).

that's the first thing that i thought of when i went to see what my old phone was worth. it really sucked to pay $150 for a book then get offered $15 at the end of the quarter for it.

Don't think I'll be using them. Have an BB 8830 world addition, almost perfect shape, they offered $16.00!!!! I'll keep it as a paperwieght for that price:motdroidvert:

That Droid Incredible sure does hold it's value well! Your thoughts?I wonder if I sold my Droid for that (which does seem slightly crazy), but if I could get a cheap phone (non smartphone) and downgrade my plan and the unlimited data package. I don't really need it that bad, the unlimited data, I mean especially if I got rid of the X.

Droid X only worth 124 to Verizon.. LOL They are on crack... When these phones roll out you are paying close to 600 and this phone is only a few months old... So funny how they rate their phone purchases.. That's BIG BUSINESS for you!

I just sold my BB Curve 8330 for $45 on craigslist. Made some guy's day with a good deal and got cash in my pocket.

Trade ins are usually worthless.

I checked mine out and it was worth $0 as a trade in. I will either recycle it or donate it to some charity when I get my Droid X in the next couple of weeks.
