The Droid X support page at Verizon Wireless has been updated and it now shows the Android 2.2 update as ready to go live (http://support.vzw.com/pdf/system_update/droid_x.pdf). The supposed distribution date is actually tomorrow, Wednesday the 22nd. Update includes Flash 10.1 support, Automatic App Updates, Google Voice Actions access and miscellaneous other improvements.

Prepare for disappointment. This is why I am a pessimist, I am rarely disappointed. When things actually happen then I'm pleasantly surprised. I will believe it when I see it!!!

I posted two poems on anther thread (one is a limerick, the other a haiku) in honor of the rumored update posts. Here they are:

Limerick:
There once was Droid and his boyo
who wanted the 2.2 Froyo.
So desperate was he,
that he believed in VZ
and now he has lost all his joyo.

Haiku:
Holding my breath,
Upgrades of promised future
Distant horizon abounds
Awash in rumors

I already have this on my phone. It isn't any different than the first leaked 2.2. The only thing I don't have is the "07" at the end of the baseband version. Mine is still "06".

The volume bug still has not been fixed.

Sure enough, I just got the email from Motorola.
I'm sure I'm not the only one that was following that thread over there.

2.3.15 is 2.3.15. It was leaked a couple days ago by TBH. Since the bootloader is locked, there really isn't a way to fake the system version. This update is the exact same thing as what was leaked a couple days ago by TBH except it has a newer baseband.

I have the leaked version and I show the same thing for the baseband version (only one number diff, 06 vs. 07), one number can be a big deal or not internally. They changed something...

That said, the version shown above is 2.3.15... on my leaked version it's showing as 2.3.9...

I'm in no hurry to update, but there are differences in the version numbers on my phone vs. the announcement above. It means they did fix/change something, so I'll update as soon as practical, but not worry about doing it tomorrow.

(I am going back to stock 2.1, then rebuilding from there...)

EDIT: My leaked install was from the original leaked version, not the one within the last week or two.

I don't think you installed it right. Here is what mine shows

I can tell all of you who have used the first 2.2 leak that there really is no difference at all. The system performance is great on all the versions of the leaked 2.2 now. I've noticed that many people didn't update to the leaked 2.2, but they really have missed out over the past weeks that it has been available.

Don't know if it's true, but I read somewhere that because of the locked bootloader, the leaked 2.3.15 is unable to update certain things, like the radio, that the official OTA/pull includes.

Ah... I don't know how to install it any differently with the leak... I simply used the update.zip file and it did the update. I was not rooted, so maybe that made some difference, but I doubt it. I downloaded it pretty early after it was announced (the leak), maybe my download source had a different version than yours.

I suspect there are two leaked versions out there, .9 and .15 but that's just a guess...

I'll update since I want to be on the official version, so if they ship a near-term OTA to fix additional 2.2 issues (highly likely), I don't have to think about it. Of course it's a reasonable option to stay with the leaked version, but I am in the mood to rebuild mine.

I didn't know anything about Android when I first got my DX, so going back to stock 2.1 and updating gives me a chance to review/understand details that were lost on me the first time.

There are actually 3 versions of 2.2 out in the wild now.

2.3.9 - 2.3.13 - 2.3.15

2.3.15 was just released a couple days ago, and it appears that it is the same as the official. Those of us with the 2.3.15 will be able to upgrade to the new radio baseband once the official OTA is repackaged by a dev. I think it was funny that Motorola/Verizon said that anyone with the leaked 2.2 wouldn't be able to upgrade to the official OTA. They really are comical.:motdroidvert:

So, does anyone think an enterprising dev will come up with a way to upgrade 2.3.9 to official? I am non-rooted and used the update.zip method to upgrade. Do you think there might be a hope of another update.zip method for me to upgrade without wiping?

I do. Plus I am probably going to the new FlyX once he updates his ROM. People are getting panicky over nothing unless you want to update at exactly 12 tomorrow.

On what exactly, if we don't use Flash, etc..? I haven't missed out on anything, unless it can help my wife send me naughty pics faster, or make her more inclined to do so, then I haven't missed anything. Just one of those things that we all love to do, "I have this, and you don't, hahah". Lol. I do it too.

the only reason I would even think about sbf to 2.1 is if the "official" upgrade is rootable...availiable to mod/change to our liking...and if it brings the volume upgrade with it
other than that I have original 2.2 leak..tranquility 2.3.3...and gala 1.5 x theme...and my performance is scary good...mid 1400 quadrants...I unplug my battery at 6am....and with moderate use, I am

So im on a rooted 2.1 with a manual black bar notifcation mod and it keeps failing. Havent killed any bloatware. Not sure what the issue is. when I download the update and the phone reboots it looks like it gets a quarter of the way through its install process before a triangle with an ! symbol in the center covers up the unstuffing box and android symbol. Then it seems to reboot normally and upon startup notifies me that the update process fails. :(

Needless to say, it would not play... if anyone can give me any advice *preferably a step-by-step process, to get a free emulator with roms onto my X it would be most appreciated! *my biggest request is for a PSX emulator with FF7.

Just decided to check after seeing this thread and what do ya know?! :D

Downloading now. Keeping fingers crossed for the non-SSL Exchange and encrypted VPN to work! :)

It works!!!!! It connects to Exchange without SSL AND the VPN works too!! :greendroid:

It also seems faster too, though that could be from the reboot too. Swype looks different too. Oddly it (swype) seems faster to register characters, but slower to put them on the screen. Weird.

Lock screen changes will take some getting used to as well. It looks a little like they might have even slightly modified the Droid X live wallpaper. And it can now display landscape mode the other way too. Not very useful, but neat.

They added more Verizon apps though (like VZ navigator).

I'm betting there's even more too. Will have too wait for morning though.

w00t!

Flashing my phone to stock 2.1 now currently, thought about updating via leaked version of the OTA that's rooted and deodexed, but thought I'd go this route.

For those with leaked 2.2 and want the OTA update with root, go here - MDW: Incremental upgrade 2.3.15 for DroidX (http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-x-discussion/4749-mdw-incremental-upgrade-2-3-15-droidx.html)

I don't think anyone here will tell you that. First of all a lot here are friends with the guy that made the psx1 emulator, thus you or I, or anyone that doesn't pay for it are sort of screwing him out of a few bucks. Admittedly we all download "free stuff", just saying that to post it here is probably a big no-no.

I just restored to a clean nandroid of 2.1. it does have root but with luck this will fix the issue. if not i shall unroot and try again. I see unrooting your phone didn't work but I am trying to narrow down the possible problems that might be occuring. If this does not work after having done a clean restore and unrooting the problem is either with the hardware or the incoming update. if the nandroid restore works I can give you the link.

New poster here...but I read the forum everyday...just finished my 2.2 upgrade...and so far so good. It did take a little while to totally download and install, but not too long (15 minutes or so from start to fnish). So far, nothing seems to be missing or not working. Will explore the new upgrade more later today...when I'm more awake and after a few cups of strong coffee. Just as a FYI...other than a bunch of free apps that I've loaded since I bought the phone about month ago, I hadn't made any majors changes to it, so that may be why my upgrade went smoothly...or at least, apprears to have gone smoothly. Time will tell.

Mine won't update...

I tried factory reset and reactivated.. still gets hung up and resets after its reboot to the recovery screen. Comes back with "update failed"

The only thing I had done at one time or another was Koush's Clockwork boot and root.

I had unrooted and uninstalled Kouch's stuff.. then factory reset and reinstalled, same thing. The update will download.. boots to recovery screen, get 1/4 way, error triangle, reboot, "update failed"..

Any ideas?
Is there something from Koush's stuff that is hanging around, evern after an uninstall?
I'd really like to get the OTA update!!

Random preamble: If you have root/etc installed, how are you expecting to get an OTA update? It's been clear since day one that you have to do a factory reset, including no root and ALL bloatware, to get OTA. If you experimented with root back in the day, even if you tried to put it back, yes this is why your update is failing, and you need to run a complete circuit to restore your phone. This is exactly why I've waited for Froyo before messing with root.

In other news:
-YEAH! Installing now. Today is going to be an awesome day, getting everything back up and running under Froyo. LauncherPro also just did a really nice update, and I can't wait to combine the two.

You may have to SBF (http://alldroid.org/default.aspx?g=posts&t=762)

Not sure though... I'm roooted, running 2.2 and I'm no update available for me. Not going back either... just going to wait until there's confirmed differences b/w what everyone is getting now and what I have from the leaked version. Even then, I will simply wait till my hacking friends find a way to get around everything. I simply am too happy with how my phone is now. :)

I've been looking and everything I've seen says it can't be done with 2.2. There are some apps out there that allow you to disable locks alltogether, but I'm not sure about disabling just the screen lock. If you find one, let me know.

Yeah, screen lock issue is very annoying. I've heard there may be a bug where if you had pattern lock set before update (me, you) then you get the slider slapped over it. Very annoying, and I don't want to have to manually downgrade and everything for something as dumb as this. Running on just slider lock for now.

Edit: May be helpful to note I have WidgetLocker to do just sliding for me, but it's not an ideal solution.

The problem is, you can either do "None", which is not a good idea, or you can do "Slider+(security)". Before, you could do just a plain slider, or just pattern/pin.

Not much as changed from 2.1 from what I can tell. Flash is preinstalled on the update. yes the screen does rotate left and right, but not with the youtube videos. still playing. But not really impressed with it at all.

One thing that was big for me going to 2.2 was the ability to use activesync for my hotmail account. Now I have both that and my Exchange work account syncing to the servers.

Flash works as well...although I would like the ability to view the flash content at certain sites in a more clean fashion. I know one site where there are plenty of flash tv shows (thewb.com) doesn't seem to show all that well on the phone.

Anyone with the pattern lock issue- do not do a factory reset. I tried it, no go.

The best solution I've found is set the phone to no lock, and use something like WidgetLocker to get your slider-only lock option. This sucks, but it's more secure than nothing, and not as annoying as logging into your phone twice every time.

Edit: Can anyone tell me what a healthy Froyo unlock option looks like?

The only screen lock options I get are None, and Pattern/Pin/Password. After a factory reset, what I think I'm seeing is that you always have to swipe to unlock your phone and there's no customization whatsoever (you can't even set haptic feedback on/off) for the slider, and your security option will be under the slider, so you have to login twice if you pick pattern/pin/password (haptic feedback setting only works on the security option).

Is this how Froyo is supposed to work, or do other people have more options?

Beginning to think that's how things are going to be. It really sucks that such a basic feature would get switched around, and it's not in any of the major literatute that I can find either. Maybe I need to re-check the Froyo user guide or something.

(Anybody know of an app to get pattern lock- and only pattern lock- on the phone? Or can anyone bug the widgetlocker guy to make that an option?)

I don't have the 2.2 updater yet and have only one question. I rooted for Wireless tether. Do I have to unroot in order to install 2.2 when I receive it. I'm new to the forum and the DroidX as well.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I recommend doing a flash stock back to.the original SBF and then grabbing the update if you don't care about the precious root on a leaked 2.2 rom. Here's the deal, the rom that was recently leaked is NOT the same as the official. I was rooted 2.2 leaked and it sucked with issues that I could fix but shouldn't have to. I ran test on both and was pleasantly suprised that better performance and battery life now comes out of my beloved droid. Save yourself the headache, and just be patient for the next one click root in a few weeks. You'll be too busy admiring your speed and stability for you to really whine and moan. Plus APK files still work in developer mode....my own legally purchased APK files of course.... rolls eyes.

I was on 2.2 (.9) leaked and I flashed back to 2.1, then did the OTA 2.2 update.
Phone is working great so far. A great time to rethink the app layout on my home screens.
Used MyBackupPro to restore my apps and most data.

Not a big change for me but I think Swype is being smarter about some editing options. I'll figure it out and report if I find something interesting.

You can go in and "pull' it versus waiting for the push...the push is in a random order and there is no rhyme or reason to it...

To pull the update, from your phone settings - about phone - system update.

Maxpower: I have been beating it up and so far it's fine. I went all the way back to factory reset (on 2.1) and so far I'm very happy. I'm going to use the Nav today (I use it regularly...). No major change from 2.2 leaked, but things do seem to be cleaner.

Seems to find the GPS signal a little faster, but that may just be today, not the phone.

If you were happy with 2.2 leaked, I suspect you'll be super happy with .15 (OTA).

I'm laughing at myself, but the biggest thing is that it's just working as expected. No glitches for me so far, update was easy, flash back was easy for me once I change the .sbf file name to test.spf.

And I've also been happy re-thinking my home screens. After a couple months it makes sense to change a few things.

Worst part: Had to put in my Nav shortcuts again. If you have address in your contact lists, then it's cake. I had a few nav shortcuts I created that are NOT in my phone book. So I had to get the addresses again.

Swype feels better to me so far.

I'll report back after a couple more days. I wouldn't be in a hurry to update, you have 99% of the improvements already... But it's nice to know it's all ready to update if they push out a new hot fix.

I called again. They do have a notice saying the push was stopped. This makes no sense as we are obviously posting (or others) that they are receiving as I type this. A request for a pull states not avaialable at this time, try again later.

So the only thing I get out of this is they do not have the capability to multicast a push to "all" DX users at once. There are alot more DX owners then their system can handle. The pushes are now being done in batches and no new pushes are being done untill the queue has cleared up. That is "my" IT interpritation.

This shouldn't be news to anybody.

First level tech support at almost all tech firms are underpaid, hardworking people who are reasonable at using the internal database to look-up your issue. 95% of the calls they get can be solved by rebooting or resetting to factory.

If your issue is already in the database, they will read it for you.

Don't expect much from them!

If you have a real issue, work with the first tech for 10 min then politely ask, "...can we escalate this ... ?" They won't usually say yes but keep asking every 2 min. Be polite!

Once you get to the second level tech, you're getting to someone who thinks through issues AND knows where to get more help when he's over his head. They have been around a while and know the internal politics too...

First level is a very tough job and they often don't have access to perfect info. Their job is to solve the 90% cases... And try to keep customers happy.

I don't fault level 1 for their lack of knowledge. After stating my problem I was escalated to level 2. She basically just told me that I should go to verizon and they will push it for me. Call two local verizon stores and they both give me different answers to why they have nothing to do with software updates. Mainly frustrated with the lack of up to date information between motorola and verizon.

Well that is really bad. By level 2 they should have solid info. No good excuses for your situation.

I think of the store techs as level .85. Occasionally I've found a 1.36, but they are rare and not at every store.

Training hundreds/thousands of techs to handle rollout issues is not something these big companies do well.

Mine has been in the never ending "searching for updates, please wait" for about 24hrs now. I don't think calling VZW again will get me any where. I am not optimistic that they will escalate since they have their blow off the customer statement that they read which says updates have been suspended.

If anyone has been escalated and resolved the upgrade issue, please post. :work2:

Still no update for me. VZW knows nothing and their highest tech support refered me to Moto. They have a bulletin on their greeting stating it will take several "WEEKS" for the update. WF? http://img.droidforums.net/forum/images/smilies/droid/blackberry.gif update took 1 hour on t-mobile. I was told updates are done in "random" batches after I explained my coworker received his at noon last wed. I asked if they had server or equipment issues and if their was an issue with my phone. I was then escelated to level 2 and being past 6pm EST there was a closed recording.

I have tried to pull every day and received the unable to check try again later msg. Yesterday I finally received retreiving update. After 24hrs I decided to pull the battery thinking it was stuck. Now i'm back at the end of the queue again.

I wonder if there are certain apps that are causing this. I returned my 1st Droid X during the first 30 days because of instabilities. The second phone had the same problem(s). I then decided to go ahead and install the 2.2 leak and the phone ran much better.

I wonder if you have an app or two that just doesn't work well with Froyo?

I had to uninstall one of my soundboards because it just wouldn't work with 2.2.

Did you try doing a factory reset/wipe cache? Not that I think this is normal and a process that you should have to do this but it might be worth a try.

My battery is doing far better after the update.

Using stock battery.

This morning when I plugged my phone back in, the stats showed that I had been unplugged for 1 day and 9 hours while having around a 30% charge left. That is far better than I had ever gotten before with the same amount of moderate usage.

Right now I am sitting at 17 hours unplugged with a 70% charge. I have talked on the phone, went online and even played on kongregate for a while so I am happy at 70% right now.

Motorola is releasing, or working on, and then releasing a "fix" to the problems that a lot of us are having with Froyo, including text messages order not updating, faster battery drain, and a few other problems. Obviously this tells us this was a legit widespread problem (which I have had a few bugs myself), and it also tells us they are aware and have already found a fix for it. That is good, just hope they get it out to us quick.
