I couldn't find any link to that PDF on the Verizon site. I don't think it's a hoax, but just premade PDF in anticipation of the release. Think we might be waiting a while yet.

The Droid X is my first Verizon device, do they release updates by region, or do they just flip a switch and allow OTA user initiated regardless of area / region?

My guess is that this is just another false alarm. I'll believe it when I see it. In the meantime, 2.1 is a fantastic operating system and I'm still learning it, so the update is no big deal to me. I think someone is spending a lot of time "cloaking" these announcements. JMHO...

Why would you wanna do that if you're already running 2.3.15? You wont gain anything but a headache, cuz you'll have to flash sbf, root, move su... and all that mess.

I think its real this time because i went to the verizon site myself and i went to support selected droid x the went to software upgrade or something like that and there it was and it says motorolla and verizon encourage you to download this updat today also i called verizon before and they say only a certain amount of droid x's get the update at a time so im guessing it hits in certain areas first so the updates hit in waves so i could hit anytime

Its always better to get the official update because it should run smoother keyword should lol but the official build should be better and may secretly offer smaller fixes ect that the leaked verzion msy not have

I flashed my phone to 2.3.15. It seemed pretty good except i lost my "vibrate" setting on my phone. So uninstalled 2.3.15 and factory restored to stock....NO VIBRATE....Will I called verizon and had a new X overnighted (just got it yesterday). So now I have a stock X....... vibrate is more important to me then flash....but I would like it rooted to wireless tether.

2.3.15 never leaked 2.3.9 did. Plus im sure all the developers will start working on 2.3.15 because its im sure more stable plus its official and anyone getting an X after i guess tomorrow will only have this version.

I just got 2.2 last week and yesterday loaded flyx and the galaxy x theme and im good for now. ill wait till we get root on this version of 2.2 and for some roms and themes till i switch over

I'm sorry to ask this question because I know it's more of a technical issue but it is related to the update. I'm currently rooted, but running 2.1. Do I have to unroot to receive the update or will I receive the update and just lose root access? I apologize if this has been discussed before but I searched and could not find a definitive answer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the link but I'm only rooted, not running the leaked update. Basically, I've been rooted for a few weeks but that's about it. No ROMs, themes, or anything else of that nature. Does this still apply just due to the fact that I have root access?

It is possible you won't maintain root thru the update...when we have updated to the 2.2 leaks, alot of the instructions said to move SU permissions from the system bin file to the xbin file...you can try that - but it is no promise that it will work...you may have to re-root via the D2 method after the update...

i see no mention of a volume fix, they had better have one or i'm getting rid of the X, it's an awesome phone but if you can't hear it, it's basically useless as a phone.

Thanks again! I'm not that concerned with root access and maintaining. I just want to be able to receive the update and that 's what my concern was. I will wait to see what methods come out for obtaining root access for 2.2 down the road. But for now I will just sit back and wait.....

Yeah I still can't hear it well in 2.2 leaked. I do not expect any better in the OTA one. I would LOVE that to happen but i think it is a hardware issue not a software one.

TV1
09-21-2010, 11:57 AM
I just received the same update from Matt over at Motorola. My guess is it will start rolling out within the next day or two, possibly tonight? I work for a very large software corporation and we do not post documentation like this unless the release is imminent.

On the Verizon support forums, a user there stated that he spoke with Support and that the guy said it has indeed been released but due to the number of X owners, it will be a phased rollout going by last name. If that's the case it sucks for me because I'm at the end of the alphabet!

Great news, I promised myself I would not check for the update until at least 1 person got theirs. I'm gonna hold myself to that haha.

Also, I love how Matt is well known across the Android community. Poor guy.

Yes, I wonder how the servers will handle so many users trying to pull the update as soon as the bell tolls 12. I'm sure people will complain (they always do) but for the most part I think they will be happy to have it. Although when it comes to software I guess you never can predict what issues may arise.

I understand the concept of pulling the update and how to initiate it, but what happens when thousands of DXers jump at the same time? A pretty large file to download as well. What would happen if I were to have Wi-Fi turned on and connected? Can the update be "pulled" over the internet? Wouldn't that be a faster more reliable path?

and a couple hours after the root will prob be a direct upgrade from the leaked version! thats what ill be holding out for, who feels like going through the whole downgrade (done it twice for defective units) process and having to reconfigure everything. actually my leaked version has never even once hiccuped may just stick with it.

Yes you can pull the update through wifi. Faster and more reliable depends on that internet connection. I am guessing it will take a while through 3G with so many people.
