Okay, here is the problem. My mom had the droid x since it came out on open mobile. She was robbed from that phone and got one equal to the one stolen. Now 2 years later after she got robbed, she gives it to me. She is not enough smart to root it.The problem is that I recently knew that there was an update by Verizon to 2.3 "Gingerbread", but I have 2.2.1 and a system version of 3.1.40. I cant seem to install it, but I can download it. I also cant find one update.zip that updates from MY system version. I also believe that I can get better apps with Gingerbread. Please help me.

D (http://www.droid-life.com/2010/07/21/how-to-boot-into-recovery-on-the-droid-x/)o that, then use the up and down volume keys to navigate to wipe cache partition. then yes.
Then reboot the phone, and download it again and try again.

If that doesnt work its really easy just let us know.

I suggest flashing the 2.3.3 / 4.5.605 sbf (firmware) with rsd lite
download VRZ_MB810_4.5.605_1FF_01.sbf.zip (http://d-h.st/dvf) verify md5 checksum with a md5 checker (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HXkPKkbHB-pda9MFmNU1SKJvle_XgUrDpzqka8r5_D8/edit)
download and install rsd lite 5.7 (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Goawxdx_UBF4Y8lqzHYWf8Ha3yUcRK4faq0UWIlXLWA/edit#bookmark=id.nmc9b1ikj0rf) or newer on pc
download and install moto drivers with Motorola_End_User_Driver_Installation_5.9.0 (http://d-h.st/users/twinkyz1979/?fld_id=4625#files)
follow Using RSD Lite to flash a .SBF to restore (Stock Rom) (https://docs.google.com/document/d/14RwYtaEd-Rcp_2jH0zj7yCpVi4YWqlm4v7r3NNCstTw/edit)

So flashing is better...Im already downloading the updates, so when I finish and see if they work or not, i'll be backAlso, do apps from gingerbread like minecraft 7.5 work now with the update. I will be checking the posts with my laptop to see if there are any suggestions. God, please help me understand why this doesn't leave spaces in between

depends on what version is being downloaded
did it say which version it is being updated to?
you may need to install 3 updates to get to 4.5.605

are you sure your current system version is 3.1.40? doesn't look right
I thought the 2.2.1 system versions were 2.3.3xx.

I'm positive im on those specs. As to the update version, I don't remember well but it started with "4.5".

I just know that it's going to gingerbread, that its going to be faster and better, nothing else

I like all the support i'm having here, and if I dont update it or reply back, I want to say thanks a lot in advance. 50% done now. Mom's 4g LTE is not that fast at home.

Well, downloading didn't work, so SD's way must be the only alternative. Im scared because I am litteraly changing unofficially something that if i do wrong, then im in trouble. Might dowload the stuff today and be checking if tomorrow you guys have suggestions.

BHuber, you're helping too, so don't exclude yourself in the congrats.

as long as you have a decent pc, and follow the directions, flashing with rsd lite will work fine.
the droid x is very hard to permanently brick.

Decent, pff. If you time it right, it crashes if you click. Not that exagerrated, but seriously, it's a laptop with 4 gb of ram and is as slow as heck. If you say it because the process is slow, I have all my life for it.

Now, before i make something I'll regret, re-explain with DETAILS how to do it, please.

I have the Motorola liscence, RSDLite 5.7, 9 windows in Chrome open and not even a clue how this goes.

It may not be important, but i live in Puerto Rico. Maybe that's why it doesn't install, maybe.

Please help me organize this

4gb is plenty, if windows is crashing, maybe time to reinstall window

other option is the ezSBF live bootable disc, see DX (MB810) ezSBF 2.3.4/4.5.621

Please help me organize thiswas the phone on verizon, or some other carrier?

Okay, here is the problem. My mom had the droid x since it came out on open mobile. ... but I have 2.2.1 and a system version of 3.1.40... what is the full/exact name of your current version, full name should look like Blur_Version.2.3.340.MB810.Verizon.en.US

sd_shadow
10-23-2013, 08:59 PM
you have Milestone X (MB809)
System Version is: 3.1.40.MB809.ACG.en.US
Baseband: BP_C_02.06.00R
Kernel: 2.6.32.9-gace4441qgd748@il93lnxdroid09 #1
Build: Retail

if that is correct do not use rsd lite, if you ever what to use the phone, on open mobile again

I suggest using the ezsbf method

Exactly, so now I have to do it with ezsbf and delete everything else BUT the licence, right?

sd_shadow

it's not a licence, its drivers so your pc can talk to the phone.
ezSBF does not need drivers

It says root too, so It wil additionally download the root files and root the phone with it, am I right. It was never on verizon and I thought the name wouldn't matter since all the sites on which i search for support they call it Droid X. (I am dowloading every single file you're telling me to)

sd_shadow
10-24-2013, 08:11 PM
the ezSBF has two options
1. flash the sbf
2. root

just use ezSBF to flash the sbf,
use framaroot (http://youtu.be/-5TmP15hfQU) to root, it is easier.

The driver/liscence stuff was installed, but how do i know that it installed correctly? drivers don't matter, you won't be running windows

How much time will it aproxametly take to flash?20-40 mins depends on the pc

can not do anything with low battery
you will need one of the following
a charged battery, Battery Charger for MOTOROLA DROID X MB810 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-Battery-home-AC-WALL-dock-charger-for-MOTOROLA-BH5X-DROID-X-MB810-/261138435822?pt=US_Cell_Phone_PDA_Chargers&hash=item3ccd104eee), or a TBH’s Motorola Factory Cable Adapter (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Goawxdx_UBF4Y8lqzHYWf8Ha3yUcRK4faq0UWIlXLWA/edit#bookmark=id.wytbuwq72yq)
