View Full Version : Bricked my Droid X, looks like an easy fix but can't download the files?

Hello folks

Sorry for posting what might be a dumb question but I've been doping around with this bricked phone since Monday and can't fix it on my own! It looks like a simple enough fix, especially with that bootable slitaz CD, but for some reason those files look to be taken down? Here's the link I'm referring to: http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x-sbf/23638-linux-solution-your-windows-rsd-lite-problems.html

I also tried working with this one: Unbricking Your Droid X (http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-x-hacks/68222-unbricking-your-droid-x.html)

The Motorola USB drive link is dead, I googled up the drivers but they still don't register the Droid X. I am not working with the factory original cable if that really does matter, this is a refurb. I was putting Liquid 1.6.2 onto it when it appeared to work, but then got stuck at the Liquid boot screen. Normally it's easy enough to just boot into Clockworkmod and fix this, but I found out the hard way it seems to be locked down tight on this phone, so I'm slightly screwed! Does anyone out there know of an alternative way (I read the thread with the three methods of booting into clockwork, none wanted to work for me) of getting into clockwork, or factory resetting the phone? Maybe those 1KDStaz .iso files are floating around and someone would be kind enough to load them up for me?

yes 1kds' site went down a few days ago.
I can reupload.
do you know what system version is on phone?
Android 2.3.3 System Version 4.5.605
Android 2.3.4 System Version 4.5.621
other

another option is
download FF-p3a_shadow_cdma_shadow-user-2.3.4-4.5.1_57_DX8-51-120111-test-keys-signed-Verizon-US.sbf.zip (http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=22979706399755132) and rsd lite (http://d-h.st/rLK)

follow my instructions here

Using RSD Lite to flash a .SBF to restore (https://docs.google.com/document/d/14RwYtaEd-Rcp_2jH0zj7yCpVi4YWqlm4v7r3NNCstTw/edit)

or use DX (MB810) ezSBF 2.3.4/4.5.621 (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1V_meI1kibcU-yKrRwzhAuGKPEWCS0lOwNDgg2dOJOQw/edit#)
it's based on 1kds's work just with the latest firmware (621)

That's better than I expected, saw it was from 2010 and was worried I was outta luck! Thanks for the prompt response, much appreciated. I'm on android 2.3.3 right now, or was when I began. I got the RSD lite method working by not using the autodetect feature of it and have been using the only SBF file I could find at the time. 1FF-p3a_shadow_cdma_shadow-user-2.3.4-4.5.1_57_DX8-51-120111-test-keys-signed-Verizon-US.sbf Same one you suggested! Neat Forget where I picked it up, but none of the ROMs (OpenAndroid and Liquid) want to stick to it for some reason, all hang on opening screen. I can safely get it back to that SBF setup now, so you don't have to go crazy on my behalf. I'm going to read through the forum until it's up and running with a custom rom. Again thank you very much for the help. :) Edit! Actually could you upload some SBF files for me? I had gotten Openandroid wroking earlier today but didn't apply the correct Wifi patch, so I had to re-install and it failed, making it hang on boot. Now when I use the RSD method my current SBF file is hanging on boot! Scary! I'm not sure which would be the best to use as a base? I can't tell you the system version because I can't get that far, unless there's a method that doesn't require going into settings.

once on 2.3.4/4.5.621, 1FF-p3a_shadow_cdma_shadow-user-2.3.4-4.5.1_57_DX8-51-120111-test-keys-signed-Verizon-US.sbf is the only one that will work.

Make sure you follow correct install steps like wiping data before and/or after read [HOW TO] Install/UseDroid 2/X/3 Bootstrap (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Ds6tlVHsAy9ZwkswQ8OZdclJRfd3YPXVSQBc0ofsZQE/edit#)
The wifi fix should only be need if you had rooted via the 604 sbf method.

if rsd lite is causing trouble try the Droid_X_621-SBF-and-RootCD-2nd_edition.iso (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1V_meI1kibcU-yKrRwzhAuGKPEWCS0lOwNDgg2dOJOQw/edit)

if rom bootloops try wiping data Hard Reset via Android Recovery (http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=33552#alt)

because of the locked bootloader, installing a custom rom does not change the kernel, so current system version is usually just considered 621.

with any rom or the sbf you should verify the md5 checksum, Verify that your download is complete with MD5/SHA-1 Hash Checksums (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HXkPKkbHB-pda9MFmNU1SKJvle_XgUrDpzqka8r5_D8/edit)

1FF-p3a_shadow_cdma_shadow-user-2.3.4-4.5.1_57_DX8-51-120111-test-keys-signed-Verizon-US.sbf.zip
md5 is 06bbf7ee86c0ed64654e14bcb84c4aed (still zipped)

Droid_X_621-SBF-and-RootCD-2nd_edition.iso
MD5 Sum: 6f3618c5000de5214362f7ae717b9c0b

Oh nice, I"ll retry the ROM again after double checking it's compatible with my .sbf. I recall it saying it was but always handy to double check that and then follow all the steps you suggested.

I had actually been using the wrong buttons to bring up the recovery menu all along! One of the articles I first read said the search button would bring it up, but that never worked. One of the ones you had posted said the volume buttons would, and that worked like a charm. I have the stock rom working again under the SBF you shared with me, so that's a step in the right direction. I'm going to retry some of the custom roms this weekend, but only after backing up this working one with titanium.

What's your favorite rom for the droid x anyway? I've got cyanogenmod on another phone and it works nice, but I'm looking for something new. I tried MIUI and dig the working permission blocker for apps, but the boot screen always was too slow for me. Most likely going for openandroid, but was wondering what your opinion was on the roms?

Hello! Long time no post, but just giving an update. Followed everything through and have the MIUI ROM running happily as can be. Thanks for all the help! Really appreciate it.Super Update!I actually dropped this phone in the ocean yesterday (oops) and it started futzing up. I opened it up and brushed away as much of the corrosion as possible with a toothbrush and alcohol, it's functioning again! All but the hard buttons, so I remembered this forum and decided to ask a question if google didn't come up with a solution, but it did: button savior. Another cool thing (I should've taken pictures, it would've made a good informative on phone maintenance) was this phone was actually a refurb for 40 dollars. It looks like the guys that refurbished it replaced a processor looking thing on the L piece of the board. Other than that I saw no changes from my phone and the video's, neat stuff.

You're welcome, and thanks for the update.
