I spent five hours setting up my DX2 from factory reset, restoring everything I had on my prior X2, and my SMS backup app appears to have corrupted my built-in text app. I'm guessing it's because the volume of texts it restored was too much for the app to handle. Now I can't send or receive texts at all anymore. I could factory reset and lose another five hours of my time fixing this, or I can try to nuke the texts saved in the messaging app, if that would work. But, there's no built-in option to do this. I need to know how it can be done, even if it relies on another app.

I also need to know if factory resetting a flashed phone causes it to revert to pre-flash state. I literally just bought this phone.

not positive but should just
menu.settings>Apps>all>Messaging
select clear data

ok, guessing that did not work
you need a file manager like root browser (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrummy.root.browserfree) with root access
go to /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/mmssms.db
rename to mmssms.db.bak or just delete mmssms.db
reboot phone system will recreate mmssms.db
