You can root 2.3.5, the Mac is my concern. Let me double check.

I believe you can use the Linux version or the adb/fastboot version. Let me get a 2nd opinion.

Its late. If you wish to try those go ahead and see. If it can wait until tomorrow then the person who created the thread I linked should be around to fill in the questions.

probably could do the manual adb/fastboot method, but if you have never used adb on mac, I suggest just using
the linux/slitaz boot img (https://docs.google.com/document/d/10icoGLMINaviCt1dqVU14lt7-cfxM-46DiASJpGWIqs/edit#bookmark=id.5j9o7r37874q)
download Droid2_D2G_DX_DX2-RootCD-2012.iso (http://www.mediafire.com/?mim304k214kl41h)
and burn to cd or usb stick drive

Instructions (Mac): using cd
Download .iso
Use Disk Utility (built in) to burn iso file to a CD (instructions (http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20060619181010389) )
Shut computer down
Hold c key, push power and hold c until you see the Linux OS start
Hit enter at the yellow "boot baby... boot" screen
You will see yellow dots for 3-5 minutes then the script will start

or
use UNetBootin for mac (http://sourceforge.net/projects/unetbootin/files/UNetbootin/585/unetbootin-mac-585.zip/download?use_mirror=superb-dca2) to mount iso to usb stick
instructions should be similar pc (Instructions frompendrivelinux.com (http://www.pendrivelinux.com/using-unetbootin-to-create-a-live-usb-linux/) )
then Boot your Mac from USB flash drive (http://www.macyourself.com/2011/04/24/boot-your-mac-from-cd-dvd-external-drive-or-usb-flash-drive/)
