Like the title says, I am fairly new to customizing Android. I managed to root the phone, and installed bootstrap recovery. I would like to flash over to a custom ROM like Eclipse 2.3. I am just fearful of bricking my phone.

All of the instruction posts I have read have either vague language or technical jargon.

Also, a download link for Eclipse would be nice. I am not 100% attached to Eclipse Rom either, so if there is one out there that is equally stable, I would be glad to check it out.

Thanks.

If you are on 2.3.5 then Eclipse is your only option...

Make sure you have the regular BSR and not the CM7 patched BSR.
If you rooted 2.3.4 and used voodoo rootkeeper to keep root and upgrade to 2.3.5 DELETE THE BACKUP in voodoo or installation will fail. If you rooted 2.3.5 directly, ignore this.

Make a backup first.
Plug the phone into a wall charger, boot into BSR
Choose backup and restore
Backup

Basic instructions:

Download Eclipse and place it on your sd card.
With your phone plugged into a wall charger boot into BSR.
Choose install zip from sdcard
Sd card
Install Eclipse.
Back out to the main screen of the BSR
Wipe data, wipe cache,
Go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache.
Reboot.

Eclipse is as stable as it gets. 100% working gingerbread ROM.

the x2 is very hard to brick, but if you are going to root/rom, know how to
flash a sbf with rsd lite
links to android terms and x2 files in my list

Thank you for all the info guys. I am still reading and trying educate myself in case something goes wrong. Once I feel sufficiently competent, I will be flashing Eclipse onto my phone.

Y'all Rock.

If you run into any question, please ask away. For what is worth, rooting the phone is the "hard part. ;)

I went ahead and flashed it. It worked great. It was easier than setting up the phone when it was new.

I should have done this last year.
