View Full Version : New to programming my phone

I have a Dx2. It is rooted. I have not done anything tonight except do a backup, and remove vz apps. BUT I think this has left my phone wonky. It can not save, or even edit contacts. It still freezes like mad, and sometimes it does not respond when I tap on an app. I have to tap twice. Is there anyone out there who could give a Guy a hand?

Which ones did you remove, do you remember? And did you freeze them with an app like titanium or delete them?

I have titanium free, also rom manager. I used titanium to delete vcast and vznavigator, city I'd too. I didn't think those would affect the workings of the contacts folder.

you could try doing a reboot and/or a cache wipe. If not, restore your backup and maybe flash a rom instead. They have all those apps removed already.

Just an fyi, you can freeze the apps first and then if they don't seem to be causing any harm you can delete them. Just a little easier to deal with them that way.

Good to know, but, can that be done with titanium free?
Also, I am hesitant to flash the rom on the x2 because I have an unresolved issue flashing my dx.

I believe you need the paid version to freeze.

About the ROM, don't be hesitant, flashing a ROM on the X2 is simple once you get a grasp on it. Definitely don't hesitate to ask about any questions. First, are you on 2.3.4 or 2.3.5?

Believe it, because I know I didn't: 2.2.2
I had to check my wife's to make sure. We bought them at the same time, she hasn't done anything to hers. She is 2.3.5.

Wow. I'm assuming the OTA updates will not work for you since you have removed stuff. It may be time to SBF up to 2.3.4. There are a couple of ways to do that.

If you are on Verizon you can download the 2.3.4 file from here https://sites.google.com/site/motosbf/droid-x2-sbf-files

A (https://sites.google.com/site/motosbf/droid-x2-sbf-files)nd then use RSD Lite to SBF up. Here is a guide http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x2-support/37159-guide-how-sbf-x2.html and here is a video on the process https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDjt2fiFd_0&feature=youtube_gdata_player

Y (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDjt2fiFd_0&feature=youtube_gdata_player)ou can download drivers and RSD Lite from here: https://sites.google.com/site/motosbf/rsdlite

O (https://sites.google.com/site/motosbf/rsdlite)R

You can use EzSBF here: http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x2-hacks/41697-tool-ezsbf-dx2.html

Question: will this procedure fix my Droid x, which is stuck in a boot loop( stuck on the eye screen)??

No, all the files above are for the Droid X2.

The X has a similar procedure but different files. Which system version are you on? .602, .605, .621???

I see. I think I'm running the .621. Right now it is stuck on the red eye. I think that is the "boot loop"?

Thanks for the links. I was able to flash my DX to milestone .621. It has been bricked for months now. Does this rom play with verizon? I may be giving my kid my phone. Now that it's shiny and new again.

Thanks again for the help with my dx.( maybe now I can try to flash cyanogenmod 10 or liberty). If I flash my rom on my DX2 how can I get my apps back, like nothing happened. I know when flashing rom's I am going to have to erase all user data, and such.

For the dx, you can stay on milestone if you want, but I would suggest returning to verizon. You can find the .621 kernel/device tree etc. here http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/gingerbread-roms/44928-roms-multi-rom-thread-blur-based-roms-those-621-604-a.html

N (http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/gingerbread-roms/44928-roms-multi-rom-thread-blur-based-roms-those-621-604-a.html)ext time, if you need to SBF the x use this http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x-hacks/47718-how-root-4-5-621-magic-md5-does-not-require-milestone-sbf.html (the ezsbf and root one) and you won't have to worry about the kernel/device tree.

For the X2, download Titanium Backup from the market. The free version will allow you to backup your user apps one at a time (the paid version has a batch all at once feature. Your choice) Make sure the backup location is set to the external card. Then after flashing a ROM, download titanium again and you can restore.
