Replacement htc desire flex mobo dead

Accidentally tore narrow ribbon cable while replacement glass. Carefully tried replacing it with a new one but no power. Noticed my original ribbon mobo has metallic ground tape stuck to it. Should I try to get this off and stick it on to the replacement ribbon or is there something else I've failed to do? Maybe it's just a faulty part. Enjoying the challenge but in uncharted territory here as YouTube just gives basic disassembly info but can't find any clip for mobo replacement. Does anyone know what I can do to establish power on?
