I am thinking of Rooting DROIDX from one of those companies online that pop up when I searched about rooting. I've tried I don't have the knowledge to do it myself. Anyone have an opinion on rooting DROIDX that way?

Its really not hard at all. I would never send my phone away. There's step by step videos all over YouTube and on here as well.

First of all, what is your system version under About Phone?

If you're on Gingerbread (any system build except .621; for that follow the link in the title), then this is about as simple as it gets:
[Guide] ROOT or UNROOT your Droid X - Droid X - RootzWiki (http://rootzwiki.com/topic/5307-guide-root-or-unroot-your-droid-x/)

(1) Download that Psouza Zip (the "Pete's Motorola Root Tool" linked in that article) onto your computer, and extract it.
(2) Hook up phone to computer via the USB Charger cable
(3) In your phone, find your status bar (aka notification bar), and manage the USB Connection. Change it to "Charge Only".
(4) In your phone, go to the main Settings menu. Go to "Applications". Go to "Development". Check the box that says "USB Debugging".
(5) Double-click that Psouza .exe file you extracted from the .zip in Step #1 in order to launch it.
(6) Hit the button to root the phone.

Ummmm.......that won't work on the final .621 release of Gingerbread on the DX.

There's a link in the title, but sure, I'll fix that.

No problem. There seems to be a small influx of people coming in wanting to root their DX's lately. Just didn't want that to cause them any problems.
