Looking for an inexpensive car mount for your Droid X? Need a mount that works with a case? How about a mount that rotates 360 degrees to allow portrait or landscape viewing? And it needs to not block any ports or pushes any buttons...

I got the Arkon Mega Grip car mount because of the above. I got the gooseneck that attaches to your seatbolt on the floor.

The unit is solid and pretty heavy duty. Once you bolt it in, you adjust the bendable neck to what you want. The actual Mega Grip holder swivels so you can adjust the viewing angle. You put in your Droid X, squeeze the arms and viola, you got a nice, secure mount. When you want to get your phone out, just press the button on the side and the arms pop open.

Here's vid showing the install of the gooseneck with Arkon's iPhone holder. The mount connection ("2-T") is the same, it's just a different holder:

I was so impressed with the gooseneck and Mega Grip holder, I got their beanbag dashboard mount to use in our other car. I've ended up using it alot for a desktop holder at work. You can see the swivel ball head in the second pic.

The beanbag holder works best in on a flat or slightly angled dash, but you can also use it on a somewhat curved dash. It has some neoprene non-skid material on the bottom. Just make sure you clean the dash so there's no dust or else it can slide off. There a saftey hook included that you can attach to your dash to make sure the mount doesn't go flying something extreme happened.

I've used Arkon products in the past and I've been satisfied with their quality and functionality, so when it came time to upgrade I was convinced that the Arkon mounts would do the job. I used to have the vent mount with a different holder in my old car, and it worked great. I can recommend Arkon's mounts wholeheartedly.

Did you, or are you considering, adding a magnet to automatically put it in car dock mode?

I was thinking about it, but right now I'm just using the simulator, and it's not that bad and I can connect my bluetooth and open it with the Voice Dailer. If I can find a magnet thin and powerful enough, I might stick it on.

I thought about putting in the magnets but since I had the room to put the dock icon in my scrolling menubar (Launcher Pro) I said F it. 5 across on a scroll makes things too easy.
