I used the following guides:
http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x-hacks/45037-noob-friendly-verizon-root-cm7-rom-guide-droid-x-621-ota-update.html
http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x-sbf/23638-linux-solution-your-windows-rsd-lite-problems.html

downloaded sbf_flash that runs on OSX
downloaded mb809-2.3.5.sbf
downloaded android SDK, installed platform-tools, added to path, can now run adb from anywhere

ran ./sbf_flash mb809-2.3.5.sbf
installed fine and phone rebooted
System Version now shows 4.5.604.MB809.ACG-nTelos.en.us

now I'm attempting to root, following the DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT method but running
adb wait-for-device it just sits and never finds the device.

I've tried rebooting the phone, that does not get me anywhere either.

Did I miss something in my process?

thanks!

nevermind...

some more specific googling and I see the phone needs to be in Charge Only mode, not PC Mode, changed that and adb finds the phone.

hopefully this helps others...
