I have never done any of this before. I'm completely dumb when it comes to this. The person I bought the phone from sent me to this forum to get help. I got to step 4 but there are a bunch of files and folders with that download and I don't know how to get them all to just install on my phone. My phone is currently using system version 1.3.232.MB870.Verizon.en.US, Android Version 2.3.3, Baseband version n_03.12.28s, Kernel version 2.6.32.9-00003-gb6084d9 and Build number Eclipse 0.8.1. Someone HELP. I just want my phone to be as current as possible and run smoothly.

step 1 you need to update to 2.3.4/1.3.380
most likely you need to flash SBF

Hey i was just wondering something. The other guide to installing eclipse says to

"Step 8: Navigate the same way you would in stock recovery (volume keys move, power selects) Select and perform "Wipe DATA/Factory reset", next select and perform "Wipe CACHE partition", select "Advanced", select and perform "Wipe Dalvik Cache", select "+++++Go Back+++++", select "Install zip from SDCARD", select "choose zip from sdcard", locate the eclipse 2.0.3 zip file (it should be named X2-Eclipse-v2.0.3.zip) highlight, select it, and install it. After it's finished choose "reboot system now"

but this guide says to just wipe data. Is that enough or do i have to wipe all that listed above?

Edit* Nevermind i see thats only when you are putting a new version over top of an old version. Ha new question though. The word "flash" confuses me. When i get into bootstrap and after i do data wipe will there be an option that says install eclipse? or am i missing something?

sd_shadow

that is an older version
if you have 2.2 and are flashing 2.2.1, data wipe isn't required
if you have anything other then 2.2
you need to sbf 2.3.4 and start over

edit: wiping data wipes the cache also
you can wipe the dalvic if you want

I have 2.3.5 b 418 rooted installed. Never flashed anything before. I have nothing installed but stock with root. I dont need to start over at 2.3.4 right? I can delete SU backup and just boot into bootstrap and start from there right? And the term flash is confusing me. In bootstrap after data wipe will it give me an option to "flash"

For example i know that the backup was successful because i can go into file manager and see the two backups that i've made but before i flashed eclipse i had an icon on my desktop that allowed me to switch from charge mode to recovery mode, its no longer in my apps.

Hey all, looking for some hopefully quick feedback before attempting this again... I was at Eclipse 2.1 and working fine. I flashed straight to 2.2.1, as I'd done that with all the previous updates with no issues. It flashed, but blew out my wifi. I SBFd back to kernel 2.3.4 and tried to follow the instructions posted on the Eclipse forums. I rooted using Pete's kit, used rootkeeper to save root and temp unroot, took the OTA update to 2.3.5, reinstalled the bootstrap, wiped, and then attempted to flash Eclipse 2.2.1. At that point I got the "Can't chown/mod /system" error. That used to happen with the prior ROM updates if you tried to use rootkeeper. I figured that wouldn't be an issue since the Eclipse instructions said to use it this time. I see the instructions here are slightly different. Before I attempt them, I'd like to know if you think I had the problem because I took the OTA update or because I did something wrong with the rootkeeper process. Any ideas on what I should be paying extra attention to this time? TIA!

Cool, thanks. One more question... the step where it says to update to 2.3.5 using stock recovery... I assume that means rename it to update.zip, slap it on the SDcard, boot into recovery, run update? Just want to make sure I'm not missing something else. Thx again!

Did you gain root access from 2.3.4 and carry it over or did you root 2.3.5 itself? If you used Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper you must make sure you deleted the SU Backup after restoring root on 2.3.5 or eclipse install will fail.

Installing BSR
1. Download BSR onto your computer http://www.markhm1972.com/MotorolaDroidX2/MOTODX2_Bootstrap_signed.rar
2. unzip it and place it on your external sd card (with your phone in usb mass storage mode.)
3. on your phone go to Settings-->applications and make sure "unknown sources" is checked.
4. use your file manager app to locate it it
5. press it and choose package install, and install it.
6. you will now have an app called system recovery, open it and press "install recovery"

***Important: In order to enter BSR/System recovery YOU MUST BE PLUGGED INTO A WAll CHARGER, not the computer or anything else, A WALL CHARGER***

Make a backup
1. Once you are sure you are plugged into a wall charger press "Recovery Mode" inside the system recovery app and in a few seconds your phone should reboot into the recovery menu.
2. Once you are in the recovery menu press volume down 6 times and "backup & restore" should be selected. Press the power button on top of your phone to select it.
3. Use your volume buttons (up and down) to navigate to external sd card as storage location and select it using the power button.
4. On the next screen the "backup" option should already be highlighted so select it.
5. Backup will begin and should take no longer than 10 minutes.
6. After the backup is complete you should be back at the original bsr menu and "Reboot System Now" should be highlighted. Select it.
7. You have just successfully backed up your phone.

To Install Eclipse
1. Download eclipse on to your computer. Place the entire zip on your external SD card using USB mass storage mode. (not in a folder just on your card. Do not unzip it)
2. Important:Make sure any pictures you want to keep are stored on your external sd card because you will be doing a data wipe. Also just to be safe make sure your contacts are backed up through google or verizon just in case.
3. Again make sure you are plugged in to a wall charger and enter Recovery Mode again through system recovery
4. In the recovery menu go down and highlight "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" and select it.
5. Once that is complete go down and select "Install zip from SDCARD"
6. On the next screen select the second option "choose zip from sdcard"
7. Go down and highlight "X2-Eclipse-v2.3.zip" and select it.
8. Once that process is complete Reboot System Now
9. The first bootup will take the longest, so dont worry if the Eclipse Boot animation stays on screen for a little longer than normal.
10. Activate phone and enjoy eclipse.

Note: once Eclipse is installed your task manager and System recovery will be located under Settings--> Eclipse parts.

Also once Eclipse is successfully installed make another backup just in case something goes wrong down the road, you will have a fail safe.

GoCliffGo05
08-19-2012, 12:35 PM
Which file? The recovery file zip? Unzip it with 7zip or winrar (right click and choose extract here). Once you have extracted it just place the apk on your phone and use the file manager to install it.

GoCliffGo05

One more thing i almost forgot. Before you use file manager to install it, make sure you go to Settings-->applications and make sure "unknown sources" is checked on your phone.

I've been using this ROM for awhile now, all has been working great and I love the ROM itself. The only issue I've had has been trying to use Google Maps, when I open Google Maps it has a hard time finding me, when it does find me and I try to use the turn by turn directions it always says trying to locate GPS.

I was wondering if anyone else has had the same issue with Google Maps or if it's a known issue and there is a fix for it somewhere.

I definitely don't want to have to revert back to stock but when it was stock Google Maps was solid, never an issue of finding me or using the turn by turn directions. Please help if anyone else had(s) this issue.

Thanks in advance.

GoCliffGo05
09-14-2012, 02:17 PM
As far as I know it's not a known issue. I'm running eclipse 2.3 and maps is working fine for me. Try going into settings - applications - manage - all and clearing cache or data for maps. If you clear data you will lose any settings you have set up but it may fix your problem.

You could also try booting into BSR and wiping cache and dalvik cache from in there and see if that does you any good.

Also in phone settings in the locations option what do you have checked?

Thanks GoCliffGo05, I cleared data for Maps, I've tried booting into bootstrap and wiped cache and dalvik awhile back but there was no difference.

As for my location settings, I have "Google location services", "Standalone GPS services" and "VZW location services" all checked.

GoCliffGo05
09-14-2012, 05:51 PM
Strange... Do you have the latest version of maps installed and the latest version of eclipse? It shouldn't make much of a difference but have you tried re flashing the rom? I saw you said you cleared data for maps, how about the cache for them? You could also try clearing data on maps, uninstalling them and re-installing them.

One more thing to check. Using a root explorer app go to etc/ and open gps.conf

Does it look like this?

NTP_SERVER=0.us.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=1.us.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=2.us.pool.ntp.org
NTP_SERVER=3.us.pool.ntp.org
XTRA_SERVER_1=http://xtra1.gpsonextra.net/xtra.bin

Yeah, my gps.conf file looks the same. I did a fresh flash of 2.3 around the time it came available, definitely the latest version of Maps. When you choose "clear data" for an app it clears the cache at the same time.

I'll probably try the reflashing route, always nice to have a fresh plate to work with :omg:

GoCliffGo05

True. I've been reading around some and it seems you aren't the only one to experience this. It's not widespread but it pops up from time to time. Nitro is currently working on a small update for this maybe he will address it. Looks like this will be the last full version though as he no longer has an x2

Edit: After more reading and talking someone said that when their GPS was acting up they just went into Settings - Location & Security and just unchecked all three services and then rechecked them and it worked for a while. Doesn't sound like a permanent fix, but may help a little.

I can't figure out why you say:
2.3 eclipse nandroid (http://www.mediafire.com/?7b71gn1j3r2dwrj) for those quirky DX2s

When that is a different file than the one from eclipserom.com (in fact this is not even a ZIP so it cannot even be used following your instructions)

I am curious because 3 days after I installed eclipse (latest one posted on eclipserom.com), I tried to use data with my verison plan but I cannot get 3G or even 1X at all! I don't know if there's instructions I didn't read, I was on the latest OTA, 4.3.5. I really don't want to go back to my saved nandroid because eclipse is sooo smooth. On before this it seemed I was waiting half-minute for any little thing I tap!
Thanks

there are a couple of people, who have DX2's that can not flash roms, but can flash nandroids
your data problem could be a setting error
if you can make /receive calls look at
menu>system settings>battery & data manager>data delivery (http://support.verizonwireless.com/clc/devices/knowledge_base.html?id=40165)
check 'data enabled'
check 'background data'

edit: also it is a zip just add .zip to file name
also changed link, to the updated file with .7z extension
i updated the link in original thread, that I posted it, several months ago

an nandroid is different from a rom, a rom is installed, a nandroid is a backup image file made in recovery
watch the video on this site about on how to restore a nandroid
How to video's. sbf, root, nandroid backup, and restore (https://sites.google.com/site/tomsgt123/videos/videos-page-5)

Thank you so much shadow, I see why you got the spotlight!

The problem was in the settings. I had gone through all the settings I could think of, including that, and I feel like there's no reason I would not have noticed 'data enabled' but in fact that was not checked. I did and 3G came right up!

I am sure glad you take time to answer things that maybe are too simple and you hit that in the right area even though I know I should have given a lot more info. :excited:

About the compressed ROM image: I said it's not a zip because although I can uncompress it with 7zip, renaming it does not allow windows to unzip it (assumes it's not the first of multi-part zip). Then I even copied that renamed file to the SD on the droid and recovery could not install it because not proper format. I suspect it's using incompatible compression method, but I just used the other download "X2-Eclipse-v2.3.zip". As far as the nandroid, I just meant I don't want to go up to my backup I made just before I installed eclipse, so yes I mean nandroid.

I should have done this a very long time ago. My phone is now finally faster than new! Many thanks to everyone here for making SBFing, rooting, and flashing easy. Eclipse rocks!

One question, though, Is there any way I can get back the MotoBlur Calendar app? I've been putting my client's name and phone # in the subject line, and it was real easy to tap the ph# from the Calendar to call them and let them know I'm on my way. But the event subject line isn't clickable in this ROM's calendar app. I'd sure like to get that back.

sd_shadow

I would just try a few different calendar apps in the play store

Just came back to Eclipse from CM7, curious if anyone else is having trouble with wifi? Try to turn it on in setting but says " error "...

sd_shadow

Wifi errors are almost always kernel related, did you flash 2.3.5 sbf?

No, phone was 2.3.5 when I bought it off ebay, I rooted and ran eclipse for a while then sbf'd to 2.3.4 to run cm7, loaded an older backup that was rooted stock 2.3.5 and flashed newest eclipse

sd_shadow
12-12-2013, 04:50 PM
Dx2 has a locked bootloader that prevents cwm/custom recoveries from flashing kernels. Only official updates and sbfs can change kernels

Would u suggest sbf back to 2.3.4, take 2.3.5 ota update, root, then flash Eclipse? To make everything a clean install...

I would flash 2.3.5 sbf and root with magic md5 root (http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x2-hacks/46304-how-root-2-3-5-1-3-418-a.html)

a few of things can be tried
1.is there an options to uninstall updates? at menu>settings>apps>Manage>google play store
is so uninstall
if not try

2. download older version of google play Google.Play.Store.3.9.16.zip (http://d-h.st/chi)
unzip, place com.android.vending.apk on sd card internal or external
uninstall google play store, from menu>settings>apps
open file manager, find com.android.vending.apk (from zip)
select install with package installer
or
3. verify md5:3cde119578f20b3579ce65ec88bb8a62 for X2-Eclipse-v2.3.zip (http://d-h.st/5jU)
follow Verify that your download is complete with MD5/SHA-1 Hash Checksums (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HXkPKkbHB-pda9MFmNU1SKJvle_XgUrDpzqka8r5_D8/edit)
if it is correct try re-installing rom

bbell67
12-26-2013, 09:04 PM
I was able to uninstall updates and got back to 3 . 5. 16 still nothing
Hash verified
Don't know how to get into bsr to flash again?
If all else fails how do i get back to stock (nandroid before flash)

sd_shadow
12-26-2013, 09:11 PM
bsr is in Menu>settings>eclipse parts>bootstrap recovery
install bootstrap>install recovery then recovery mode

nandroid can be restored in recovery mode>backup & restore>

1. is there a reason why it's set up that way? an advantage?

2. it won't cause any problem in the long run?

could I ask few questions

1. is there a reason why it's set up that way? an advantage?changes where apps are installed, if you install apps on sd card, some apps are installed on sd card by default.
I believe by default internal sd card is selected for apps and camera pics, eclipse changes it to external sd card

2. it won't cause any problem in the long run?no problems, it was just a work around, for the limitation of some apps, and the unique DX2 hardware.
The phone has several partitions, 3 of them are system, user, and internal sd card
stock apps are in system, most apps you install are in user (except superuser), apps like some games are install by apps default to sd card.
Some apps can be moved to System, User apps, or sd card (internal or external), using Titanium backup.
Not all apps work well installed in a partition that is not the default location.
I just created folders named A SD Card 32gb , and A Internal SD, respectively so it was easy to tell which I was looking at, and used A so it was on top.

i did everything proper to install Eclipse but it says signature verifaction faild install aborted wtf did i get a bad copy of eclipse?
phone system version was 1.3.418?
did you follow?
