Ok, I've done a lot of research, so I will gather my information onto this thread, but I would like to make this a cakewalk for myself and anyone else of whom may be fairly new in the Android development scene. Basically, in this thread, I just need reassurance and guidance to prevent myself from getting confused. Thanks in advance. I will be using a number list to make it easy enough for a kindergartener to be able to root an x2.

This is coming from a stock 2.3.4 system.

1. Download Bootstrap Recovery from http://www.bandbinnovations.com/xda/DX2/Bootstrap_signed.apk
2. Rename UPDATE.zip
3. Put UPDATE.zip into root folder of SD card
4. Turn phone off and hold down power while holding down the volume down button
5. Toggle down button until I see Android Recovery and then press volume up once
6. Press volume up and volume down button simultaneously on the next screen.
7. Wipe cache
8. Flash UPDATE.zip
9. Unplug phone
10. Download Zergrush from http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=784296&stc=1&d=1321435888
11. Unzip Zergrush
12. Enable USB debugging in Menu\Settings\Applications\Development
13. Enable Unknown Sources in Menu\Settings\Applications
14. Enable Stay Awake in Zergrush
15. Increase screen timeout to 10 minutes
16. Plug USB cable to phone and then to the PC
17. Set phone to charge only mode
18. Execute RUNME.bat
19. Hit spacebar
20. Install 2.3.5
21. Boot into Bootstrap Recovery
22. Wipe data, cache, and davlik
23. Flash Eclipse 2.0.2 http://www.multiupload.com/AFVKKQYQ7Z

or would I be better off going with Cyanogenmod7?

I've read countless amounts of threads and tutorials that I'm just getting more and more confused. Basically I need someone to really break it down for me step by step by step if possible. I know its probably aggravating when someone can't do a simple root but for the inexperienced, it's like trying to teach physics in Chinese when you only know how to speak English and don't even know a thing about physics.

Thanks again.

the difference in cm7 and eclipse are just preference
hdmi doesn't work on cm7
battery life likely better with eclipse, but depends on your actual use
recommend using eclipse 2.1, or cm7.2
if you use any version cm7 stay on 2.3.4

1. Download Bootstrap Recovery ( don't use till after you root)
2. Rename UPDATE.zip (don't rename Bootstrap Recovery) download 2.3.5/ 1.3.412 update leak file (http://rootzwiki.com/topic/18181-235-update-leak-file/page__fromsearch__1)
10. Download Zergrush from http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...1&d=1321435888 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=784296&stc=1&d=1321435888)
11. Unzip Zergrush
12. Enable USB debugging in Menu\Settings\Applications\Development
13. Enable Unknown Sources in Menu\Settings\Applications
14. Enable Stay Awake in (Menu\Settings\Applications\Development)
15. or Increase screen timeout to 10 minutes
16. Plug USB cable to phone and then to the PC
17. Set phone to charge only mode
18. Execute RUNME.bat
19. Hit spacebar
20. Install 2.3.5 ( did this in step 8)
21. install bootstrap/system recovery, connect charger, open system recovery app, tap on install recovery, allow superuser (may have to wait 5 secs), select recovery mode (phone should reboot to recovery)
if bootstrap is active, anytime you turn off phone and connect to charge it should boot to recovery
before flashing any rom you should, make a backup, select backup & restore, external sd card, backup
22. Wipe data, cache, and davlik
23. Flash Eclipse 2.0.2 ( or 2.1)

edit: if you use any version cm7 stay on 2.3.4
if bootstrap is active, anytime you turn off phone and connect to charge it should boot to recovery

I decided to go with CM7, staying on 2.3.4 but I'm trying to perform the bootstrap and keep getting stuck on the M screen when I go into recovery mode.

rooting went fine?
bootstrap installed, you got a superuser popup, when installing recovery
connected charger, rebooted
then got stuck?
disconnect charger, reboot to stock rom and try bootstrap again
should see a quick, superuser message, that access was allowed

Couldn't get past the M logo when trying to bootstrap with CM7, so I flashed to 2.3.5 and bootstrapped and cleared davlik, data and cache... then tried flashing Eclipse 2.1... didn't work. ****ing sucks man.

I was just going to write, any time you wipe davlik, it takes time to boot rom
edit:
I'm trying to perform the bootstrap...trying to bootstrap with CM7
you mean to flashed cm7, in recovery, and rebooted
you may have just not waited long enough
if you get a bootloop, try wiping data again in android recovery

I'm completely running Eclipse 2.1 now. It's like a brand new phone. Just gotta get used to it now. I can breathe a big sigh of relief. It was like giving birth.

Eclipse is pretty nice. Is pretty fast and scores 2551 on the 2011 Benchmark test. I would prefer the keyboard was a bit bigger and finger friendly. I also miss the little vibrate after punching in a letter in an SMS. The visual effects are nice, but nothing amazing. When going into the app bin, it hangs for a second. Probably going to use this for a little while since this is my first successful ROM. I'm looking for something a bit more visually appealing. The CM7 looks intriguing may look into finding some themes for the Eclipse 2.1 rom.

Just scored 3269 on 2011 benchmark test. Will post a pic later. This is without v6 supercharger. Still planning on doing that though

Is this still the best way to root on 2.3.4 or should I use http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x2-hacks/48951-2-3-4-user-looking-root.html?
Also, I am planning on rooting my phone before activation so I can test the system without losing the use of my phone, can I use the micro sd card from my Droid x to root the X2 and swap the card back and forth without losing function in either system?

I would use pete's root tools as suggested in the other thread.
the x2 does not need a sd card for anything, the x need a card to take pics or download files

you don't need a sd card in the x2 to root or rom
