Multi-ROM Release Thread - Blur-Based ROMs for those on .621/.604 rooted!

These ROMs are designed just for those who want a blur-based ROM and are on the Milestone X SBF root from .621; if you are not, do not flash!

**READ**
Here is where I am going to be posting updated ROM files for blur-based ROMs for those who are on the .621/.604 rooted. Currently, if you try to flash the normal version of a blur-based ROM (one that works on .602/.605) you will get a bootloader error. I am in the process of patching these ROMs to work on the .621/.604 system version. I am currently contacting developers to get their permission to patch their ROMs and release them here. I have released all that I've had patched so far. If you are a developer and see your ROM listed here and do not want it here for whatever reason, PM me and I will remove the link. I am just providing these in the interest of the community. All credit for original work goes to the original developers of these ROMs!

**FIXES - THESE ARE FOR ALL BLUR-ROMs ON THE .604 HACK**

.621 kernel, recoveries, CDT, device tree
This will put you on the correct kernel for the DX, instead of the MX .604 kernel. Credit to ky41083 @Rootz for this [Link (http://rootzwiki.com/topic/19318-important-information-regarding-621-system-update/page__st__320#entry644966)]

These ROMs are community support ONLY! While I am flashing each of these individually to ensure they boot with no issues before releasing, do bear in mind that because you are on the new system version developers are not easily able to help you, as none of them are currently on the new system version! If you have any issues with the ROM, search the original thread for known issues and/or answers, failing that post here, and we can try to assist you as needed. All should work fine though as I said, as I am testing these prior to release!

Install Instructions:

Follow instructions in OP of original thread. When I am testing these for install I always perform the mini-SBF to eliminate issues.

Boot in to CWM.
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Wipe dalvik cache (under Advanced)
Format system (under Mounts and Storage)
then install the desired .zip.
then install fixes (kernel then WIFI) no wipes with either.

Known Issues:
None ATM. Just make sure you apply the kernel patch and the WIFI patch (I'll see about getting these integrated into the ROMs themselves one of these days.)
This is copied from the main thread @Rootz, that's my usual haunts. Just providing it here for you folks @DXF to enjoy. I'm over here fairly often so I'll try be around to respond if you have questions, and update the OP with new builds, etc, but main Dev thread is here:

[ROMS] Multi-ROM Thread - Blur-Based ROMs for those on .621/.604! - RootzWiki (http://rootzwiki.com/topic/21337-roms-multi-rom-thread-blur-based-roms-for-those-on-621604/)

Found a WIFI workaround in the interim until if/when I can get the correct kernel loaded (don't know if its able to do since I have to get the unsecured kernel from .621, and currently just getting lots of kernel panics and SBF's, but I'mma keep tryin). In the meantime the method posted in OP should work to resolve WIFI issues.

I won't use these, but it's pretty awesome that there is a workaround. It really didn't take that long. Good on ya' Goose.

Nice concept thread. Thank you. I do suggest a font color change in the op post. It's a trivial thing but in tapatalk on dark setting the text except for the links is darn near impossible to read. Just an fyi.

Weird. Its just normal black text on a computer, I just copy-pasted it from Rootz, didn't do anything special to it, which makes me think that tapatalk isn't changing it to the normal white text on the dark setting. I'll take a looksie.

Hey Goose, I just used 1KDS's method to rid my phone of .621 and root. I am now trying to install the vortex rom. I have CW Rom manager as well as CW DX Bootstrapper, however I am not able to boot into cwm recovery. My phone is technically a milestone, so I am not sure as to flash the cwm recovery to a droid x or milestone, though I have tried both, and neither will allow me to fully into recovery. A couple times the little droid guy showed up with a status bar that went halfway, then just halted and reverted to normal phone booting.

Any suggestions as to the cause of this? Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hey intell. You need d2 bootstrap or uncheck usb debugging if I understand you correctly and you're using dx bootstrap.

Gapps don't apply to any of these ROMs, everything is self contained. And yeah all 2nd-init works fine on .621 (CM9 is 2nd-init)

Sorry about that. It's called droid 2 bootstap recovery. Been so long since I bought it. Definitely worth getting and supporting the dev. It's a must have app.

milski, thanks for the clarification. I will check it out, I trust that it will be worth the buy. I am going to try and disable usb debugging right now as well, and see if I can get into cwr. Thanks again for your help.

EDIT: Interesting, when I flash cwr to a milestone, with usb debugging unchecked, it tries to boot into cwr but halts half way through the status indicator and boots phone normally. When I flash cwr to a dx, it wont boot into cwr at all, just reboots the phone. Time to go check out droid 2 bootstrap recovery.

If you have Droid X bootstrap I'm 99% sure you don't need to rebuy Droid 2. Just hit bootstrap recovery in Droid X then go to ROM Manager and choose to update recovery, and choose Droid 2. Haven't done it for awhile but I'm pretty sure that works too.

Goose, thank you that did the trick. I did'nt see an option in rom manager to update recovery, The only option I had was to flash cwr, so I went ahead and flashed to a droid 2. Then I was able to boot into cwr. I chose wipe data/factory reset, however now I am on the screen with the little hat and circular arrow. It has been like this going on ten minutes. I am hoping this is just something that require patience?

Well, 35 minutes now. Same dang hat/arrow screen, I can still navigate within cwr, but I'm not sure what to do so I just plugged the phone into the charger and am going to leave it alone until further advice from one of you guys. I dont want to take the chance that it's partially wiped and reset the phone to find out I've got nothing.

Edit: I can browse the options in cwr, but cannot select any of them.... It just returns to the "hat/arrow" screen

Sorry about the bootstrap app. Wasn't aware of that. If the 1kds process is the same for this flash as it is for his others, you should have wiped data during the sbf process, and you shouldn't of had to do it again. You currently are just trying to flash the vortex zip, correct? I'm not folllowing some procedure here. Hopefully goose can chime in and get you straightened. But I;m sure it has to do with either the droid bootstrap or you wiping data/factory reset. Let me hunt something down and i'll get back to you.

milski, Yes I did a wipe / factory reset before flashing to .604 however per the instructions here in regards to flashing to vortex, it says to wipe/reset from within cwr. I am not sure it is necessary to do so, just following the instructions. So I am indeed trying to install the vortex rom. I am not sure what is going on. I found a bit of info about people with other droids getting stuck at the same screen, but I am not sure that those users problems pertain to my specific issue. As always, Thanks for helping me out.

EDIT: And don't worry about the reference to the other bootstrap app. You're just trying to help, it's all good, I did'nt buy it anyway.

This rom is quite nice indeed... had a bit of wifi trouble initially, but I think I've got it solved just needed a static ip, just as goose mentioned... For whatever reason "email and corporate sync" is now greyed out. I am trying manage when my phone receives emails over wifi. Also, my wifi has dropped a couple times, not sure though if it was because out of range though. Bothtimes, it was when the screen was off, however I have two apps that keep the wifi running even when screen is off.

I installed Apex 2 RC 4 on my re-rooted .621/.604 DX. Works great with the following minor issues: Occasional FC on market (which hasn't changed to google play yet) and I can't get the data turned off, I do that to save battery. I have GO launcher ex and the power switch widget will not toggle the 3G. Thanks for all the help you guys have given me.
OK weirdness, I installed Juice defender and added the data widget from that and the go launcher widget started to work, I un-installed Juice Defender and the GO Launcher still toggles data.

Use the same recoveries you would have used before hand. Droid X Bootstrap doesn't work on GB (either for the X or Milestone X, unless USB Debugging is toggled) and Milestone is a generic OG Droid, so definitely don't do that.

Flash Droid 2 Bootstrap, as per usual.

ky41083 @Rootz (the guy who got us the .15p radio) also just got us the new .621 kernel extracted and flashable. No more Milestone X/Droid X issues hopefully! I'm downloading it now and if all goes well I'll be re-integrating the kernel updates per original flashes and it should resolve the WIFI issues hopefully.

Goose306
04-25-2012, 11:33 AM
OP updated with two fixes. Now have flashable .621 kernel, recovery, CDT, device tree and a WIFI lib fix extracted from the .621 stock /system partition. Should put correct kernel back on the DX when on the .604 hack so we are actually truly back to *stock* .621, instead of the .604 hack, and WIFI lib fix will fix the WIFI issue. At some point I'll probably integrate them into the ROM, but this now fixes all known issues with these ROMs. (And realistically .621 in general, although we still can't revert, we can now get fully back to a stock rooted .621 format with the kernel, recovery, CDT and device tree available now)

The real question now is since we've determined you can write recovies, cdt, device trees, kernels, etc in CWM (same thing TBH did with their two-part AIO) the question remains can we now include a kernel as a seperate flashable using the write_raw_data command? If so then you guys may be able to get the .621 kernel without having to do the unrevertable update.

We will need someone with a spare DX they don't care about though. I would happily test it... but ya know. We've clearly found we can write kernels, now we just need to determine if the .621 kernel is what makes it "unrevertable" - I'm pretty sure its not, thinking more the recovery portions and that sort of stuff. But gonna need someone to step up to be a guinea pig, lol.

Haha yeah no worries 'tall. Like I said, need someone who wants to be a guinea pig, but I'd want someone with a spare DX or something like that, not their daily-usage phone.

Would be awful neat though if we can build that to a flashable. Then you all could enjoy the new kernel and radio with no worries (all the benefits of .621 without all the pain in the butt that comes with it ;) )

AT WORST CASE SCENARIO IF IT FAILS YOU MAY JUST HAVE TO SBF, BUT THERE IS A CHANCE IF YOU FLASH THIS YOU WILL BE STUCK ON .621!

That's the plan, however no one has tested it, and so I'm not going to guarantee anything. Whoever tests it needs to know there is a chance you may be stuck. At this point that doesn't matter much as all ROMs for GB are pretty such flashable over the top and we are no longer stuck on .604 since we can flash kernel, but there may be no going back if you try it till we get confirmation.

I'd recommend reading up the stickied .621 thread at Rootz. That's where dev comes from and can be some support there. I'll try to keep up if you need assistance but I'm not near a computer to recompile flashes, etc.

Soo.... results.

.621 kernel-only flash was successful but went to bootloader after logo. I put in CDT and dev-tree, it booted, and then bricked when tried going back to .605.

So, what's that mean?

It is either the CDT or dev-tree portions that are causing unreversion. I can try making another flashable, but its basically a coin flip. Since it was two new items loaded into the .zip, it was either CDT or dev-tree. But, we don't know which one. Sooo... yeah.

If anyone else has interest, I'll start building .zips again. But, DD is now out. He's on .621.... ;)

So I tried to flash the Liberty3 rom on my .604 DroidX and it bricks my phone. It flashes fine but then goes right to the bootloader and I have to SBF to get it back up and running. What gives? do I need to flash the .621 kernel?

Sorry to wake an old thread, but one of my friends droidx keeps shutting down, it shows a question mark in the battery. He was fighting it for 2 days and was about to go buy a new phone, which he doesn't have the money for. So I told him let me take a crack at doing the sbf, etc even though he was on .621. I did the linux method, it worked great, I followed the steps in the op here and flashed the normal 605/602 file. The only issue I had is I couldn't hear any volume and the other person couldn't hear me. Then I rooted, cleared cache, dalvik, and even battery stats a couple times to see if it would help and it worked!!! Then I was about to give it back to him and the phone started doing the same thing, shutting down randomly when unplugged. Everywhere I've searched says its a battery issue, Thing is I have two batteries for my droidx and both work fine, they wouldn't in his phone though. I then followed the steps again in the op and installed liberty, hoping an aosp rom would help out. It did to an extent, but phone still randomly resets. Any suggestions, I'm not willing to give up cause this forum has helped me bring my phone back from the grave 2 different times. I'm thinking, but hoping it isn't a hardware issue, cause of course it's out of warranty at this point. Thanks again for any help or let me know if I should post elsewhere.

He was on .621 which after reading (correct me if im wrong) the only way to gain root is the flash the milestone .sbf , Which now i am rooted and on milestone, now my question is are the ONLY roms we can use with this root method are the ones listed on the OP ? will i not be able to flash any other rom?

Thanks guys,

i had flashed liberty 3 v2 but did not flash any of the additional zip's included in the OP(ex: wifi fix). System Version says i am on .605, so you're saying i can now flash other roms from now on?

You mean it shows .604 on system version? That's what it should be after the Milestone SBF.

If you flashed CM7 officials it wouldn't work because its for Froyo. If you want CM7 you need this one.

Guys... I'm entirely new here and have spent hours trying to get this done. I used the linux live disk and now am at .604 rooted.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get these simple zip files to install. I'm rebooting with clockwork recovery.. is that wrong? I don't even see all the options listed once I reboot into that. I dont have advanced or the dalvik cache... what should i be rebooting into??

Please help!! I feel like I'm so close.

I have both .ZIPs on my SD card. Now just need to figure out how to get my kernel up to .621 so i can actually install a ROM!

Thanks everyone!!!! (Sorry if this has been answered a thousand times, i can barley see my monitor)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Install Instructions:

Follow instructions in OP of original thread. When I am testing these for install I always perform the mini-SBF to eliminate issues.

Boot in to CWM. (What is this??!)
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Wipe dalvik cache (under Advanced)
Format system (under Mounts and Storage)
then install the desired .zip.
then install fixes (kernel then WIFI) no wipes with either.

Hi bro, ok, u need the droid x bootstrap app, cause this app is what give you the menu for install the custom roms.
So, u have to sbf flash with the linux disc, then root with the disc, then once reboot, install bootstrap, then reboot with that.. Once in the menu, if you r gonna install a second init rom, just install the rom and just that, if is a ics rom, you arw gonna need to install the gapps right after without reboot. If you are gonna install a non second init, the order is:
604/621 fix zip. Then without reboot, install the rom, then without reboot install the wifi zip. Then reboot.
Bootstrap ia just for a non second init rom, the second init roms have built in the recovery menu. I hope this helps.

If I want to install the Liberty V3 Rom, should I reboot into Recovery, flash the rom, than apply the two patches and reboot? Any wiping needed prior to doing so?

I dont know the difference between an init rom or and ics rom.

Thanks for both the replies. Let me know if what I've done so far is ok...1. I downloaded the liberty rom to my Mac and just created the folder into a zip and dropped onto my SD card2. After running the linux disk and getting rooted, I installed bootstrap and rebooted into recovery3. After factory data reset, wiping cash, the dalvik cache, and formatting system, I applied the liberty rom.zip packageMy plan was to apply the two patches after that but the zip failed at "installing update"... It just sat there at installing Thanks a lot for the help...

So really i just need to apply the ROM since it has the patches in it? Can you guys let me know if I'm applying it correctly ?

It may look like it's just sitting there but it takes a while to unzip and install. Then it may take a while when it reboots, that's normal , don't panic, it's setting up the new caches. Good luck

If you're still bootlooping then its something you did during flashing that didn't agree with the phone. You're easiest way out would be to start over by SBF'ing the Milestone 604. If it still boot loops after the SBF just do the factory reset afterwards and it should boot.

Did you by chance flash all that in one session? If so, you need to flash the ROM, reboot, then go back to Clockwork and flash the patches

It is A droid x... In order to root i had to use linux (OS) and it changed the phone's software to that of the milestone. SO before root the software was Android 2.3.4 with .621 which is unrootable without going through linux and making it a milestone. After root the software was a milestone. I then proceded to download a rom (Liberty) along with the two patches... And yes flashed in one session. And not entirely sure if i used CW correctly

Sbf flash is what u do with the bootable disc yo ur phone. So, i think that u sbf, then u root, then u install the droid 2 bootstrap, go to recovery, wipe the phone, install the roms and the zips, ok.
If ur getting in bootloop, in my experiencie could be that u have a bad download of the rom, so check thw checksum. Or is not the rom of this thread, remember that this roms are already modified for our special case, so check this two things.
Another thing, i always do in this order
Patch, then rom, then wifi zip.

You'll still need the files on the card. Redo the .604 Linux method to get the phone working. May require a factory reset afterwards to get it to boot. Then root the phone(unless you're using the live CD method, then just root it in the same session). Once its rooted follow these steps.

1. Install Droid 2 Bootstrap
2. Install ROM Manager Lite.
3. Open D2 Bootstrap. Hit Bootstrap Recovery. Close the app.
4. Open ROM Manager. Select Install Latest Clockwork. Should be the top choice. When the device list pops up choose Droid X 2nd init.
5. In ROM Manager choose Reboot Recovery. Phone will boot into Clockwork. Black screen with blue text.
6. Once in Clockwork do a data wipe and cache wipe.
7. Install ROM zip from SD card.
8. Reboot
9. Once you're booted you can boot back into recovery and flash your patches. I've never run Liberty, but on most ROMs you hold down the power button which brings up a menu where you choose Reboot->Recovery. If it doesn't then reboot through ROM Manager again to get there. Flash the patches without doing any wipes and reboot.

One thing: Once you've used Bootstrap, NEVER hit Bootstrap Recovery again or you'll be starting from scratch again.

All the ROMs listed in the OP work perfectly fine. I tested them all on my DX running .621 prior to releasing them as the patched versions.

What is the error it is giving you specifically. Does it say something "Status 7: Installation Aborted" does it say "Signature Verification Failed" or something similar; what is it specifically telling you. That will help us figure out the source of the problem.

Also, what is the background of your recovery. Andy the Android with an exclamation or the black hat with an arrow around it? If its a black hat is the text green or blue?

I'm not sure if this was asked or cleared up somewhere in this thread, but I have a question.

In the instructions for the .621 kernel, it says to flash desired .zip and THEN flash the kernel/wifi fix. I am extremely new at all this, but aren't you supposed to have flashed the kernel before you flash a rom?

I did in that order and works for me.
1. Kernel fix
2. Rom
3. Wifi fix.
In the case of second init just the rom.

Did all the stuff in the right order and got it to bootloop which was actually kind of a shred of hope in this grueling process. Before, I was bricking my phone over and over. Finally sbf, root, cwm, wipes, 621 fix, rom, wifi fix, reboot and... it booted up to my surprise.

I am now running APEX!!!

Very exciting. Anyways, still working on getting everything setup and whatnot, but the moment of truth comes when I try the wireless tethering. That's really the ultimate goal of all this anyway, so here goes. :)

Edit: Failed :(

After I successfully flashed the apex rom, and downloaded 'Wireless Tether for Root Users' it sets up fine and I can connect to it with my laptop, but it takes me to the web page that makes me sign up for the service through verizon. Is there some way around this? Should I be using a different app? While I wait for replies, I'm gunna try a couple things.

I found a guide to get wifi tethering working after rom flash. It had me use the RadioComm program and do a couple things, and download a specific app for tethering. After all that, it doesn't take my to the verizon setup page, so all is good now!

Android version 2.3.5. Baseband version-BP_C_01.09.15P Kernel version-2.6.32.9-geadffa3mcbk83@il93lnxdroid09 #1 Build number 4.5.1_57_MX2-34 ERI version-5 and finally PRL Version 52707. then from here i install a rom with cwm but when a rom installs it just wont boot. i get stuck with the motorola logo. any help? does something have to be done prior installing a rom?

Well, all seems to be right, check ur roms withe a checksum app, and be sure that u download it from this thread. Or try with a second init like miui. Remember do a wipe always before the rom install. Wipe cache, dalvik and format system. Good luck.

I got it. The rom was not transfered right to my sd. For some reason it downloaded right to my pc. Md5 checked good but when I checked the Md5 on my sd it didn't match. So I retransfer it. And it booted. Thanks to all.

Quite the impressive amount of information here, and while I'm learning the quirks of rooting this Motorola phone (3rd time so far), what is the best ROM to run for making this into a no phone device? I want to shut off the phone antennas, free up memory and speed, mainly using this for music storage and a few apps that would require bluetooth and wifi, would prefer the GPS to work as well.

(Bought a used Droid X off of craigslist w/ a clean ECN, was at .621, rooted to Milestone X w/ .604 via 1KDStaz live CD method)

Have this through root, with bootstrap D2 installed, should be ready to load a new ROM tonight.
(prior EVO rooted w/o a problem but no rom's applied, just cleaned up phone, current S2 may or may not stay stock)

The links in the second post take you to all the compatible blur based ROMs. Goose was nice enough to patch them for you all. Other than that any 2nd unit ROM will work fine on .621.

Just a quick question. I'm planning on helping a friend with his DroidX that is stock with the 621 update try to get over to Wizard's DefX MIUI 5.12 tonight night. I was planning on using the magic root method (http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x-hacks/47718-how-root-4-5-621-magic-md5-does-not-require-milestone-sbf.html), install Droid 2 Bootstrap to get CMW Recovery, then install DefX MIUI 5.12 which I have had great success with on my DX which is running 605 modded w/ 15p radio. I believe I still need the kernel & wifi fixes correct? Does this ROM need anything else to run properly with 621? Am I going to run into any snags along the way?

You won't need any extras the magic md5 method doesn't flash to Milestone base so you can skip the kernel and the WiFi fix is only for blur-based ROMs which MIUI is not. All you will need is the ROM.zip

i am having a similar issue with my DX. For this to be able to work do you have to have the D2Bootstrap or can you use something else i have tried doing several different ROMs and none of them work i always get the same error message. E: signature failed.....(cant remember the rest of it) but i flashed my DX to the Milestone X for telos and i havent been able to do anything with it AT ALL!!! i would love to be able to install a custom ROM but i cant seem to be able to figure out how to. Please please please help me here it would be nice for someone to be able to point me in the right direction. (maybe even a step by step tutorial lol)

Are you on a milestone x or did you just use the milestone for root?

To install a ROM download D2 bootstrap and install the ROM from in there. Sounds like you are maybe trying to install the ROM from stock recovery or choosing update zip instead of install zip?

i am currently on the milestone x. the only thing that i haven't tried yet is the droid2 bootstrap. but i know this is going to sound cheap but i was trying to get around paying for the App. but also know that i am still slightly new to this. i have tried the linux iso method with the zergrush and then it said to install .621_Stock_Rooted_Deodexed_kY-Signed. but to no avail it wont even so much as try to install it. and one more thing is that i CANNOT get my phone to boot up in CWM it simply wont do it. please help.

It will never boot into CWM to let you install a ROM without D2 Bootstrap. It's only $2.

It says if you don't have the milestone x sbf for .621/.604 then dont flash....how do i know if thats what i got??

i really want the Liberty 3 rom, but ive tried to flash the Liberty 3v2.0 twice from the ROM Toolbox but both times it crashed and burned...
coming up with errors on the bootloader and i flashed the
Android 2.3.4 System Version 4.5.621 (1FF-p3a_shadow_cdma_shadow-user-2.3.4-4.5.1_57_DX8-51-120111-test-keys-signed-Verizon-US.sbf.zip)MD5

This thread was created when the 604/621 root method was the only way to root 621. That's why it's worded that way. To answer your question, yes you can use any of these ROMs on 621.

Do I need to do ".621 kernel, recoveries, CDT, device tree" and ".621 WIFI Lib Fix" or I can skip this steps and install a ROM from the first thread. Thanks a lot in advance

You don't need the kernel recovery or any of that with the root method you used. That was for a previous root method.

Goose,

Thanks so much for patching these roms. I've enjoyed each one.

I don't know how much work this is; so, if it's too much, don't worry about this. What I wanted to ask is, would you be willing to patch the Chevy SSX roms ( http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/chevyno1/38779-ssx-2-2-2-3-7-incl-1-battery-other-goodies.html#post463683 )?

Once again, I appreciate all you've done. Don't sweat this if its too much work.

Thanks,

Hey guys i'm new here. Love the forums. Just trying to see if anyone can help with my problem. I would appreciate it.

Basically after installing d2bootstrap and rebooting into cwm; Did the wipes and format.I flashed the kernel and wifi fixes first before flashing the shuji rom(Mistake). I didn't put the rom on my SD before i started.
So now It wont go pass M logo and I don't know how to get into cwm again.

Just in case-I can get into bootloader and stock recovery.

Again Thanks,
