Only if you're rooted and then through CWMR.

Just read your post in the introductions section, so I'm removing all the info about needing to be rooted etc... you clearly are and you've frozen the updater.

I'd still say, learn all about SBFing, so in case something goes wrong you'll be comfortable. It will at some point to everyone...

The short answer is Yes. You can most definitely flash a custom ROM from stock rooted .605. Make sure to make a backup (what is referred to as a nandroid) of your stock rooted .605 so that you can easily go back to it if needed.

Most important is this: Read the OP carefully on each Rom you decide to flash. There are tiny differences in the way each needs to be flashed that MUST be FOLLOWED.
Also, sometimes when a ROM doesn't flash properly, it's simply that you got a bad download, so try redownloading, and flashing again, and you should be good to go.

cool thanks to both of you. i have flashed other phones b4 just seem to be having issues with motorola. think i have it figured out though
