You should be able to get either apk manager... Or... Apk tool 4.9 I think...
And you don't instal apk because it's suppose to be run the command prompt...
But apk manager has one in an exe file to instal which installs in the sdk for on your computer

"I'll get you my little pretty... and your little dog todo too"
"I don't even have a little dog todo"

Try opening it with administrator access

"I'll get you my little pretty... and your little dog todo too"
"I don't even have a little dog todo"

the app you downloaded from the market probably wont be in there... it'll probably be in /data/app/
and also look closely at the name... because the name in the folder will be a little different... here's a couple instances off the top of my head
in /data/app/
adw launcher = org.adwfreaklauncher.apk
beta swype = com.inputmethod.android-2.apk
i believe those are the names... but atleast it gives you more of an idea what and how to look for the app

Okay, so this is quite complicated i guess... I redone my sdk installation and download and i just made C;\Android because all of the video tutorials have a folder there (and i didn't) and now i tried to use the tools\android.bat update sdk Thing by clicking on the sdk and adt manager .exe and it said that the file was missing..... Can anyone tell me EVERYTHING I will need to download and tell me how they organized it? It feels like maybe i am nameing something wrong, putting something in a wrong folder, or something of that sort and thats the problem... Things I plan to do (im saying this to explain what i need to download)
Decomplie an apk (ive downloaded apktool obviously so far)
build a rom (i know this won't be simple because droid x's work around needs for 2nd-init)

What i have so far...

APKtool
Windows r16 SDK
and everything else doesn't want to cooperate with noobecidis... lol Any help is apreciated!!!:big smile:

Go to apkmultitool.com

if this is all you're doing all you need to do is install this apktool-install-windows-r04-brut1.tar.bz2 - android-apktool - apktool dependencies and helper script for windows. THIS ISN'T APKTOOL ITSELF. READ PROJECT MAIN PAGE. - A tool for reverse engineering Android apk files - Google Project Hosting (http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/downloads/detail?name=apktool-install-windows-r04-brut1.tar.bz2)

then unpack this in your wherever you want to use (probably c:/) apktool1.4.3.tar.bz2 - android-apktool - apktool - A tool for reverse engineering Android apk files - Google Project Hosting (http://code.google.com/p/android-apktool/downloads/detail?name=apktool1.4.3.tar.bz2)

(with 7zip installed fro earlier in the thread you simply click on the the downloads select open with 7zip then the extract button to whichever directory you are going to use)

open up a command prompt wherever you unpacked apktool from above ( ex.... c:/apktool)
place the apk in the apktool file /directory
in a command prompt from the apktool directory run

apktool d nameofapk.apk

it will then decompile and give you smali and xml files

I did this already, but i must have done something wrong. I have the aapt file, and androidtool executable file and jar file. There isnt a folder in there to put the apk in...

:edit: ok i unzipped the jar file and all sorts of things came spitting out, including folders... Looks a bit more correct now, but where do i place the Calculator.apk to modify it? once i figure it out with this i will move on to the hack me if you can .apk

Well, after one last shot on my last day of springbreak, i googled this one more time and found apk multi-tool, downloaded, and alast, what i have been looking for. So now for some more questions!!!!

So i pulled the app i wanted decompiled, its on my computer. I installed apkmulti tool to android-sdk folder. Now, "platform-tools, themer, and tools" folders have showed up. Where do i place the apk to decompile it? Again, Thank you for any help given, your helpin a teen with a dream!

You are using multitool?
if so just eextract that zip and then there's a bunch of folders.

put the apk I'm place apk here for Modding.
Then run the script at the bottom. Then click any button then 25 then 1.
then click 9 and then exit out and then go to projects folder and look around.
You might have to rename the apk something simple like hackme.apk

Actually, I don't have a zip to extract .....
I went to some website and it downloaded a executable file, so I installed it, and now there is a "APK Multi- Tool Uninstall " application,

SUPER-ULTRA EDIT:nevermind!!!!!! i ran it and IT WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

SUPER-ULTRA EDIT-2: It says there is no java, i tried moving the jre-6u26-windows-x64 to the same folder that apk multitool was in and that didnt work either, what file needs to be moved there?

btw it reconized the hackme.apk

You need to add the java jdk to your environment variables.. See #2 this post http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x-themes/25552-theme-guides-where-start.html

Alright, downloading now, we shall see if this is the fix!! Thank you Cory!!

EDIT: well , i the download there, i installed(i installed to a different directory) and doesnt work, should i install it to the android-sdk directory?

Double EDIT:I installed the jre & jdk into the android-sdk folder where the script is and it still can't find it...... I tried option 24 (the bug reader screen) And it says Java isnt a reconizable batch command blah blah.... So I know i need to find something named java and it has to be put in the folder......
