View Full Version : Is MIUI really Gingerbread

I'm surprised I haven't found this on the site already (maybe my search-fu is lacking, I don't know) but I'm confused about what version MIUI really is.

I'm running MIUI-2012.2.1. The Android Version in my about screen says 2.3.7, but the kernel is 2.6.32--the same kernel as Froyo? Also, it doesn't have the ability to clear individual notifications, which came with Gingerbread.

I'm pretty confused here. Could someone clear it up for me? I really like it so far, but it concerns me a little that I may still be running Froyo...

yes its gingerbread. MIUI has its own way of doing things which is why notification pulldown is different.

I'm on a gingerbread rom and my kernel is #2

the froyo kernel for the droid x is #1

slight differences but have no fear you're on gingerbread.. just MIUI's take on it

Good to know, thanks.

I thought that GB was 2.6.35--I guess that's not always true?

unless my phone is doing some kind of voodo I dont know because I sbf'd to 602 and installed liberty which gave me the kernel version above. Maybe someone on stock 602 or 605 can take a screenie of their about phone screen and post it see if there are differences

I am currently on stock, rooted Gingerbread and my Kernel is the same

Miui doesn't replace the kernel (locked bootloader so it isn't even an option). That's why you have to already be on 602 or 605 before you can flash it. I've never looked into why it reports the kernel version the way it does, but my guess would be that it has to do with 2nd-init.

Edit - the Android version is taken directly from the build.prop file. You can edit it to say 12.0.7 if you want.
The fastest way to learn is to break something. The learning comes with fixing it again.

Ahh, that makes sense then. I come from a computer background, and sometimes it's hard for me to remember that phones operate so differently!

Thanks for the help everyone!

Is good as it runs on Wizard's builds, it can be doggone eclair as far as my two cents go. Hehehe
