And MANY MANY MORE!

How to install CM7 (Cyanogenmod) for the Motorola Droid X2.

Please note that with all ROMs, you have the possibility of bricking your phone. Use caution and ask questions! I, dragonzkiller, am NOT responsible for what you choose to do with or to your phone!

YOU MUST BE ON Gingerbread 2.3.4!!! This is the only version I will support! I have implemented a method to check for what version in the install, so you'll know. If you have ever upgraded to 2.3.5, you must SBF back to 2.3.4 as this check checks the kernel. This is the second BETA release, so that means most of the issues have been fixed, however there may still be problems! Please let me know what problems or issues you run into so I can address/fix them.

Now, onto the good stuff! It MUST be done in this order!

1. NANDROID BACKUP!
2. SBF to 2.3.4 unless you are already there. See MoonShadow-NM's guide: HowTo: Perform a SBF ("factory restore") of your Motorola Droid X2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1317707)
3. Root your Motorola Droid X2. See MoonShadow-NM's guide: HowTo: Root your Motorola Droid X2 - UPDATED [14DEC2011] (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1315711)
4. Install the Motorola Droid X2 Bootstrap Recovery (BSR). See MoonShadow-NM's guide: HowTo: Perform a bootstrap (or nandroid) backup and recovery of your Droid X2 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1318083)
5. Put the Google Apps zip, the CM7 zip, and my patched BSR apk on your EXTERNAL sdcard.
6. Boot into BootStrap Recovery. (You should know how to do this... See item number 4 above as a reference.)
7. Install the CM7 zip.
8. THEN the Google Apps Zip.
10. IMPORTANT! Wipe data and cache (factory reset) and wipe dalvik cache!
11. Boot your phone into CM7. (You will probably have to activate if you didn't after you SBF'd and setup your Google account here.)
12. Install the patched Motorola Droid X2 Bootstrap Recovery (BSR). (This can be found in the download section of this post. Once you have CM7DX2 installed, you MUST install this BSR!)
13. Go into the Superuser app and update the su binary.
14. Go into the Android Market and update the apps on the phone. Keep in mind that once you update the Superuser app, you cannot update the su binary. (Looking into this, however, it might be a Superuser issue and not a CM7 issue.)
15. Sit back and enjoy CM7 on your DX2!
16. Never user RomManager! (Yes it's included, but that's a CM7 thing and won't work with the DX2.)
17. NEVER DELETE ANYTHING FROM PREINSTALL! The hijack requires files in there that are installed with the BSR. I don't know why any non-dev would be messing with those files anyway.

NOTE: If you get a hang on the M after the Google Apps Zip is flashed you didn't follow these steps. But you DON'T have to SBF! Try getting into stock recovery by having the phone off, pressing the Vol Down and Power Buttons until the "Fastboot" appears on your screen, scroll DOWN until you see the "Android Recovery" and press Vol Up. You will then see an android with an exclamation point. Press BOTH volume buttons and scroll down to "Wipe Data." Press the power button to select it and scroll down to "Yes" and select that. Then reboot and WAIT! The initial boot takes the longest. If this still doesn't work, THEN SBF and follow the directions above EXACTLY.

Using the Patched Bootstrap Recovery With CM7DX2
In order to get into recovery with CM7DX2 you ABSOLUTELY MUST download the patched BSR APK located in the download section of this post! There was a problem with the "hijack" name. It is conflicting with the CM7 hijack. NEVER install the original BSR while in CM7DX2! This is a guaranteed way to boot loop your phone! It might not boot loop the first couple of reboots, but it will... Eventually!

FIXED ISSUES!
init no longer hogs 100% of a core
Bluetooth WORKS!
DSP Manager WORKS!
Torch (flashlight) WORKS!
Google Voice WORKS!
Dock Settings Re-Added
Battery Fix (battery files from 2.3.3)
Both SD Cards work
WIFI and USB Tethering WORKS!
WIFI sleep issue MIGHT be fixed in Beta 2
Updating SU binary WORKS! (After update from Play Store)

Known Issues!
WIFI might still have some sleep issues. If this is the case, I'll look into it later.

Currently Disabled Features (Because we don't support them)
Reboot Recovery
Reboot Bootloader
HDMI - There is no native code for HDMI in CM7, so this probably won't be fixed.
FM Radio - For now. Might be a fix later.

This post will be updated as time goes on.

I was going to SBF and flash the new beta of CM7, but when I went to download the zip, megaupload won't load. I was afraid of this after reading Droid Life's posting about it: Might Want to Find a New Place to Host Your ROMs, MegaUpload Shut Down by the Feds – Droid Life (http://www.droid-life.com/2012/01/19/might-want-to-find-a-new-place-to-host-your-roms-megaupload-shut-down-by-the-feds/)

Anyone have any ideas on how I can download the new beta???

Installed last night. Love it. One problem. When I try to adjust ringtones/notifications, com.android.settings crashes. So, currently, I have no ringtone! Just a vibrate. Anybody think is related to the ROM or maybe my restore from Titanium was corrupt?

Have you tried clearing data for settings under settings/applications/manage applications/"all"

I did, but that didn't solve it. The next time I tried to get to the System ringtones, the phone went into a bootloop. Crazy. So, I just reinstalled this morning and without reinstalling system data, it's perfect. So, I am just inputting all my data individually. It's not the end of the world. It's not, is it?!

I was completely happy with stock but this ROM takes the phone to a whole new level! Battery life is great, phone is blazing fast, it's sleek and cool looking, and the customization is endless. Very very very good work!:excited:

PS, for anybody having trouble with the download links (I did), click the link at the bottom of the first post to go to the xda forums. I clicked the links from that page and they worked just fine for me (using Chrome).

Ive noticed a slight problem with this rom...every now and then, when i attempt to slide the notification away from the notification bar, the bar will freeze and become unusable. the only way to fix it is to either reboot the phone or do a hot reboot.

This rom is absolutely fantastic.:big smile: Keep up the amazing work!

It's not that they can't...
Cm is pure aosp.... And hdmi is added in moto... So they don't support it because it's not in the Android code from Google... It's added later in the blur framework

I just wanted to give a big thanks to dragonzkiller. This is my favorite rom out of all that I tried. I have tried the new eclipse 2.1, the latest liberty, the latest molten and the stock 2.3.4 and I even tried the stock unofficial 2.3.5 update. This CM7 rom blows them all away. On the quadrant standard benchmark, I have got anywhere from a 2,700-3,000 score with the cm7 rom, while the others only gave me a benchmark of 2,100-2,400. I also like the options of cm7, like disabling the lockscreen, holding the back button to kill apps and being able to automatically close the app drawer when launching applications, not to mention the ability to disable the screen turn off animation and the other animations. Keep up the good work and thanks again.

Pretty sure this is it. It is a "beta", but it's basically in it's final release. He's 'working' on cm9, so I'd imagine there's no further support or releases for this.

Pull the battery to stop the restarting. Put the battery back in, hold volume down while powering up. You'll see safeboot, or something show up, hit volume down to recovery. Hit power. Then clear cache. I think that should do it. If not, then a Factory reset or reinstall the rom

Could someone help please. I'm tying to download the 3 .zip files taht need to be put onto the SD card:

1 - Patched BSR APK for ALL versions of CM7DX2
2 - Google Apps (market, maps, YouTube, etc.)
3 - Cyanogenmod 7 for the Motorola Droid X2 - BETA

But the links are not working. For example, I click on the link for "Patched BSR APK for ALL versions of CM7DX2", it takes me to: http://www.multiupload.com/E6QDWFXZQ5 - But it just hangs, this is the same for all the needed links. Is there another location to download from?

Thanks!

I believe everythings outdated XDA just released CM 7.2.0 RC1 APRIL 18TH 2012 UPDATE it only requires the CM7 ROM itself and the Gapps. No more third zip to flash as tethering is just part of the ROM now. And yes you must have CM7 recovery to use after you have booted into CM7. It is required to install that first directly after.

My day has sucked! I flew out of town for work and shut off my phone during my flight, when I got to my destination my phone wouldn't boot, just hung at the CyanogenMod7 animated boot screen. I just did a full SBF and started from scratch, I did that because the other stuff I tried bricked the phone, everything went okay, I am back on Cyanogen's ROM, but the BSR link to download the correct one does not work for me, and according to step 12, I need that patched BSR APK. The other links worked just fine, I'm able to go to the link but when I click "Download" it hangs for a bit then times out, is this happening for anyone else??

12. Install the patched Motorola Droid X2 Bootstrap Recovery (BSR). (This can be found in the download section of this post. Once you have CM7DX2 installed, you MUST install this BSR!)

I'm wondering which recovery you have. In your files does it say CM7 recovery or System recovery? Cuz if it's CM7 recovery and your not on CM7 yet, it wont work. Maybe a re-download of System recovery and replace it on your SD as well and try it again. Give me a minute for a link to the orignial System recovery. Place it on root of SD card from PC. Find it on phone after disconnecting from PC. Install it. Hit okay aftet unstallation completes. Plug phone into AC charger on wall plug. Hit recovery mode, moto should pop up no longer then 2-3 minutes then the green recovery screen should come up.

no because the directions say "connect you phone to NOTHING! :D " lol nice gramar lol. I will try that but I am just following the directions..... Also what if I am on the road and only have a car charger and need to run recovery? On my old droid you didn't need to have the power cord on the phone.

-Thanks

Yeah it says nothing but you really need to plug it in like the regular system recovery. And car charger should be fine. I think I've done it before. I DO know for sure plugged from a PC don't work either. Good luck let us know if it works.

I got it installed and running, but when I restart the phone it doesnt boot up. It just stays on the cyanogenmod loading screen forever. I had to SBF back to default settings, any ideas on what the problem could be?

I am running cm7 on my dx2 and have never had any issues, but today i went into system recovery and for some reason that sent my phone into a boot loop. I did a factory restore but to no luck. Now my phone is stuck and my computer will not recognize it. I don't know what to do, nor do I know why it happened. Everytime I try to turn my phone on it just shows the red motorola sign and doesn't go any further. I tried to cold boot the phone but it doesn't do anything. I am worried that I bricked my phone and have no idea how I may have done it. Does anyone have any ideas? I'm screwed.

Hey man, I had a similar thing happen to me, I think it was around March for me. I'm doing my best to recall what happened, but I remember it only loading the little red Motorola logo, and I took it into the Verizon store to get it replaced (the guy there said he didn't know what to do and was actually going to replace it! PM me if you want details on how I pulled that off). But I tried tinkering around with it a few days later after I had a new phone on the way, and I got it to work. Maybe I let the battery drain? But I remember my computer not recognizing it either. I don't quite remember how I got it to work though! I'm going to think about it hard and get back to you. I'll try and help out here, cause I was freaking out too.

I realized that I sent cm7 into bootloop because I accidentally reinstalled bootsrap recovery in the app. I ended up buying a new battery and used this http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x2-hacks/41697-tool-ezsbf-dx2.html to SBF my phone back to 2.3.4. That fixed my phone and now I just have to 2 batteries. Thanks for the help though. I appreciate it

Hey guys.. I'm not sure if I am practicing necromancy by posting here (sorry if I am!), but I have an issue that has not yet been discussed here yet. On my DX2, the Wifi repeatedly turn itself off. I have tried various apps (Wifi Fixer and such) and setting changes to no avail. No matter how many times I check the wifi-on box, 20 seconds later it turns off again and stays off. This is frustrating, because I have almost no signal (3 bars of 1x if I am lucky) but my wifi is really fast. Is there anyway around this? I've followed the instructions on installing this ROM to the letter (this isn't my first time either..), but I still have this problem. Does anybody have suggestions on how to fix this glitch or know why this phenomenon occurs?

Thank you all very much!

Alright. No one has responded yet, but I have found the solution. After taking a glance at LogCat, I found that everytime I enabled my Wifi, it told me that a certain file was corrupted or unreadable. This was probably due to Titanium backup, because the problem only surfaced after using TB (even after 2nd time wiping and re-installing CM7). I fixed this issue by going to the root of the phone and navigating to /data/misc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf. (took me awhile to find it..) and deleting the wpa_supplicant configuration file.* After deleting it, I rebooted, and now everything is fine. CM7 is GREAT. Thank you to all the devs and contributors!

*To do this you will need some sort of root file browser. I used Root Explorer (a few bucks).

I hope that this will help other people!

hey just installed this rom yesterday. i am getting like 4 hour battery life on this rom. my phone usually will last me all day. i could understand if i was doing stuff on it for 4 hours straight, but it was mostly while it was in my pocket, asleep. also my phone is also getting really hot, even when it is in my pocket.

previously i was on stock android 2.3.5, none of these problems occured while i was on stock. has anyone else had these problems? or any ideas for me?

I installed this rom on my wife's phone and for the most part everything is awesome. However she just came to me saying her voicemail password is not working. So I tried to coerce to the google voice side. When Google voice asked me to enter the 2 digit verification code, it was not recognized. So i seem to have an error with the dialer during a call.
Anyone experienced this issue?

thanks

At random haptic feedback stops working, and on top of this any sound or vibration set for notifications which is a real problem missing emails and text messages, any idea on how to fix this?

How long have you had CM7 installed? I'm not familiar with too many people having this problem. Try getting into bsr and wiping Cache and Dalvik cache and see if that helps. If that doesn't, a data wipe may be in order. Try the cahce ones first though and post back and let us know if it helped.

edit: sorry, i forgot the obvious, have you tried turning off haptic feedback, rebooting your phone, then turning it back on?

Working on the Cache now, didn't have access to a windows machine over the weekend so i did the reboot, it works for a random amount of time but then haptic feedback and notifications stop working randomly

Are you using a third party keyboard app? If not try one from the play store. Otherwise if nothing else is working try reflashing the Rom. Just to be perfectly clear you have haptic feedback on AND under settings - language and keyboard under multi touch keyboard settings you have vibrate on keypress selected?

Edit: a followup question, how often do you reboot your phone? I've been reading up on this issue and a lot of people say Verizon's response was to do a factory reset... Another common problem was from people using Handcent as their text messaging app.

I'm using swiftkey 3, i have feedback for the keyboard intentionally disabled, also i reboot this thing a maximum of once a day (turn it off at night and then on in the morning)

Does a reboot fix the problem for a while? There are a couple options... you can make a backup of your rom and go back tothe stock 2.3.4 for a while and see if that helps (to rule out a rom issue) or just reflash the rom right away and see if that helps.

Are you sure it's not some other app that's causing it to drain? It could be the same app you had on 2.3.5, but it doesn't play well with this mod. Go to Settings > About Phone > Battery Use

what is using up the most battery?

Need help my Wi-Fi keeps dropping and get FC on display manager , Thanks

Hmm.. I don't have any wifi issues on CM7. Have you tried Wifi connections other places? Maybe it's a problem with your router. But on to the questions, are you on 2.3.4? Did you install the GB Gapps along with the ROM? Has it always been a problem or did it just recently start happening? Have you tried forgetting the current wifi connection and setting it back up again from the beginning?

Switched from DX to X2 to Incredible 2 (because of lag issues while texting/typing, also when I would push call, wait about 20-30 seconds before it would actually call) and back to X2, X2 was on 2.3.5 running Eclipse, flashed back to 2.3.4 hoping to eliminate lag and it did.now only prob I'm seeing so far is YouTube
