I was trying to update my Droid X which was running 2.2 or something like that up to a newer version using this guide:
Rooted DROIDX Gingerbread 4.5.602 Available – Droid Life (http://www.droid-life.com/2011/08/18/rooted-droidx-gingerbread-4-5-602-available/)

I downloaded all the files, used the DroidX Bootstrapper to backup then installed part one and part two in recovery mode. After selecting restart all I get is the non animated 'M' for a second then the screen goes black and it happens over and over again but it will not boot.

Thanks for your help.

Edit: I can get into a screen that reads:

Bootloader
30.04

Battery OK
OK to Program
Transfer Mode:
USB

No idea where to go from here...

Sounds like you need to sbf...

Post script: did you mount /system before flashing?

Double post script: if you follow this easy guide.. You'll be good to go shortly

when installing threw clockwork recovery (bootstrap recovery) it's a good idea... And with some files such as these updating files... You'll need to go into mounts and storage.. And make sure /system its mounted
