2/20/12 UPDATE - Jeez - I never even thought that my links were pointing to multiupload - just checked in and saw the comments. DOH! So - links updated - hopefully dropbox will work just fine. I am still on hiatus - too many things going on in personal life. Another big shift coming up ...

OK - I know you've been waiting for this, for a WHILE now. My life has gotten very busy and the amount of time I've been able to devote to Android has been dropping - this was in the hands of a few testers, a few bugs were flushed out, and here is the final product. Given that this is now a GB-kernel ROM - you MUST have .602 at a minimum. If you don't have that first, you are looking at an SBF. Please don't post up questions/bugs unless you have first tried a complete WIPE with no restore of apps/data and can confirm the bug exists on the stock rom.

Bottom line is I can't help debug my ROM if you have added a different kernel, supercharger, apps, etc. Run the base ROM first to ensure you have no issues. That way if any crop up later, we can narrow it down to something else you've changed.

As usual I will start a bugs thread and I will TRY to keep on top of it. Very difficult these days, but that is where I'll want any bug reports to go, not in this thread. Do not take it personally if you post it here and I do not respond - post it up in the bugs thread please :)

SSX 2.2 (2.3.7) (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/23014960/SSDX-GB-2.2-update.zip)
SSX 2.2 (2.3.7) UNTHEMED (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/23014960/SSDX-GB-2.2-update-unthemed.zip)

What is new:

0. GB Kernel support! I have flashed this over top of .602 - this is the base you need to get to before flashing this - if you don't do that first, you are looking at a full SBF - remember to wipe data also before leaving recovery!
1. 2.3.7 is the Android version
2. When data is toggled via statusbar or settings - turn off data icon
3. Added to options - change low battery level warnings
4. Added to options - screen off cpu setting - SHOULD be quicker than an app, since it's at framework level - this means maybe using 125 as low slot when before was not possible
5. Add 1% battery increments - if powered off/into recovery for long period of time - battery might be within 9% tolerance of correct when rebooted, depending on drain (possible issues correctly reading extended batteries) -
NOTE: If you install a theme that replaces battery icons - you may lose the 1% in the status bar, but should still show on lockscreen. You might also see green icons if the theme does not include ALL images at 1% increments - that is an issue with the theme you have chosen
6. Ability to move clock to center of status bar (any long status messages will 'overlay' over the clock - known issue)
7. Sense-style lockscreen (courtesy CM)
8. I'm sure other CM enhancements that I haven't even noticed, but you will

Known issue:

1. Camera freeze on zoom using on screen controls - Workaround: (turn on zoom with volume keys, then use the volume up down to zoom)

Feel free to mirror and share the links!

I have a list of testers to thank, thank you all very much for your help and feedback .. If I forgot you .. tell me and I will make it RIGHT:

smalltowngirl13
fezrock
Scrapy McSlappy
Bkdodger
popcenator
Nemo aeternamn
C Dippa

And SPECIAL PROPS to cyanogen for the very solid CM7 base, and cvpcs and RevNumbers for their work on 2nd-init and GB-kernel - without them, this would not be possible!

And I will thank everyone ahead of time, for helping each other out - I can't spend as much time as I'd like to here - so if you can answer a question and help out a fellow SS'er - please do so! :p

Question: Would I be able to load a CM7 theme onto SSX? Say, Naked Simplicity from Theme manager?

Yeah I was using Sculpted over SSX on 2.1. No issues at all. Tried a few others and nothing with that either, so you should be good.

That's why. You can't use those rooting tools on Gingerbread! You MUST use the One Click Root. Go HERE (http://www.psouza4.com/bionic/) so you can download the tools.

Are you letting it reboot 3 times? There are 3 steps it takes and those 3 steps require the phone to be rebooted 3 times. Sounds like you just let it run the exploit once, rebooted, and didn't finish the rooting process.

Also, did you make sure that USB Debugging is turned on and your phone is set to Charge Only?

I've been playing with this ROM with the screen on for 45 minutes and I'm only down to 96%! (Running widget locker, many home screen widgets, and downloading apps) This is PHENOMENAL battery life! All I can say is, WOW!

It has the battery life of Shuji 2.2 while having the speed of CM7/MIUI. Chevy, you've outdone yourself. This ROM is top notch!

I have a Milestone X running stock 2.2.2. system Version.3.2.6MB809.ACG-nTelos.en.us and kernel 2.6.32.9-ge37fac8...

I am rooted and have clockworkmod installed. I wrote the CWM using ROM Manager and I used Droid-X and NOT Droid-X (2nd Init). Will this make a difference? Am I ready at this point using CWM, to flash this ROM, or am I required to SBF something first? I am a bit confused on this.

Also, Chevy's D1 ROMS never had the BASEBAND included, which is good for me, because the BASEBANDs will wreak my phone, not being on Verizon.

Does this ROM also NOT have the BASEBANDS included, because if it does, I cannot use it.

Thanks,
Lex

If you are not on the custom CM7GB builds by Revnumbers, you must SBF to .602 before you can install SSX 2.2. The regular CM7 nightlies are still Froyo, and flashing this overtop will bootloop your phone.

Yeah I was having a problem with installing apps from the sd card. I kept selecting install from unknown sources but it would uncheck as soon as I left the menu. Here's how I solved it.

Basically I went to settings - application and checked the unknown sources. Press the back button, and then hit applications again. It should still be checked. Took me like four tries until the check stuck. Then reboot the phone, and it should stick when you're back in. I know its not very specific in the process, but it works.

And might I say, excellent battery life. Top notch work man. Took me 2 hours and 34 minutes to drop 1%. AND I'm on at 1.1GHz.

For all those who have questions I hope this can help or verify, These rules apply to all roms:

1.If you are on a GB rom that is the minimum .602 you can just wipe data/cache/dalvik cache and it will work. No SBF needed
2.If you are on a 2 init rom with GB kernel do the same wipe data/cache/dalvik. No SBF needed
3, If you are on CM7 nightlies without the GB kernel which means you are not downloading RevNumbers CM7GB then SBF back to .602 GB and then flash SSX 2.2
4.If you are on a Rom running a GB kernel before .602 then you have to use and all-in-one updater to .602 or SBF to .602 GB then flash SSX 2.2.
5. If you are on a 2nd init Rom not on GB kernel then you have to SBF to .602 GB then flash SSX 2.2.
6. A lot of people may be confused with MIUI as well because of the new DefyX base but it still works the same cause it is on the new GB kernel. Just wipe data/cache/dalvik then flash SSX 2.2!
7. .602 GB is safe to go to .605 GB!

Hopefully this helped if anyone knows something I don't then please let us know :excited: By the way I am on SSX 2.2 now and the battery is amazing! 3 hours of moderate use and it is at 97%!!!! Holy cow!!!! Thanks Chevy for being awesome!

umm well basically way and I mean way better battery life. It is almost just like cm7 but more customizable and whether you choose themed or not the themed one I think is pretty cool but some prefer unthemed so they can theme it themselves. You can still use the theme chooser from cm7 on the themed one though. By themed it means he made his own looks through out the whole thing like certain icons in settings and fun stuff like that but the unthemed one looks basic and can add special themes as well to it. MIUI is more customizable in looks but really I will never us MIUI again since this came out!

Occasionally you may find a theme that doesn't play so well with 2nd init on dx. Maybe that was the problem, or have you used it before?

Well if you do fix permissions to fix something else. It will break the market 100% of the time. So idk what to do. I wiped several times. And started over and does it every time.

So as of right now I can not use the market. because it will force close and worked perfectly prior to fix permissions.
Maybe if someone has the apk for the market i will uninstall it and reinstall it and see what happens.

I found this

What bootstrap do we use on this rom and which wireless tether ?

You don't use any bootstrap with this since it's a 2nd-init rom. Bootstrap is built into the rom itself. Hold the power key, select reboot, and then select bootstrap.

mapatton82

No Bootstrap, look in the power menu under Reboot and there should be an option for Recovery. As the tether you can use Wireless Tether, Google it and it should be the first result. You do not have to flash Wug's tether patch either.

You can also use rom manager to flash and reboot into recovery... As far as tether... Feel free to use any app..no need to flash anything

On VorteX you would use D2 Bootstrap to get into recovery then wipe data and cache and flash SSX 2.2. Once you are on SSX do not install D2 Bootstrap, the recovery is already included in the power menu under reboot.

I will work on making the battery numbers a little bigger. When I made these I made them a little small to fit the % sign in. I will make a set with out the % sign that can be flashed right over. Give me a couple days to get it just right and I will post it on here.

Hey guys! First off great job on the rom Chevy. This is my first time using the ROM and I must say I was intrigued when I heard about the testing beforehand. The battery life I was seeing reports on was incredible. My question is how does that all translate to everyday use?

I installed it last night and I let it go overnight. I was astonished when I had checked my phone in the middle of the night ( my daughter woke me up) and saw my battery was down only 3 percent. I was like "what?" I knew it was idle time and I realized that I do have the extended battery, but after that I did not seem to get that kind of drain consistently throughout the day.

I did notice too that once I switched to WIFI at work, things seem to go down a little quicker. right now im about 16 hrs in with 1 h 40 mins of screen time and about 5% left.

I was wondering about points 4 and 5 in the OP. Where can I see that screen off setting as 125. the lowest I see is 300 when I look. Also has anyone else noticed issues with extended battery as of yet?

Thanks for the help. Love this ROM. If the battery holds up as advertised, its kind of like a perfect storm.

So if I am on SSX and want to go back to VorteX I just go into recovery from the power menu and then flash like normal, right? Just want to make sure there isn't anything crazy that happens.

It is hard to say what the battery life will be, you kinda have to judge how this ROM is going versus other similar ROMs like MIUIGB and CM7GB (2nd-init, same kernel, and GB).

But I can say that for me (and I have a 1900 Extended battery from VZW) that the battery life is way better that I was getting with CM7GB or MIUI. After wiping battery stats (recommended after flashing a new ROM) this morning, 10 hours later I have only used 27% of the battery. This is with an hour of streaming music, texts, checking twitter and forums. Normally about this time I would have used up closer to 35% or a little more.

With the WiFi, make sure to change the Wi-Fi sleep policy to never, so it does not disable the WiFi when the screen shuts off. This can use up more battery to connect each time the screen turns on or if you are in a low signal area switching in and out of data when the WiFi is off can drain the battery faster. This setting is in WiFi settings then press the menu key and select Advanced.

As far as the CPU settings are concerned, the lowest I see is 300Mhz, I'm not sure if Chevy was referring to using another application to underclock/overclock then use his settings to set the min and max?!?! Maybe someone else can shed some light on this!!

Hopefully this helps!!! :)

Thanks mapatton, so I should download the untheme verison then ? I have been using Revnumbers ROM and I havent been getting too great battery life as I would of expected. So I am thinking of switching to this ROM since I have been hearing it is doing better on battery life. Plus the 1% battery also has me interested. Theme I use is Mixer and I editted it some in the Res folder, and does show 1% battery in the Res folder so I assume that will work. Only thing that I am worried about are people having issues with the market but I think I am going to try this ROM out.

Either version will work. The unthemed will start out looking like CM7 the standard green theme which might be more what you are looking for. My advice for the battery is calibrate the battery either with the Battery Calibration app in the Market or Wipe Battery Stats in the Advanced menu in CWM.

So far I have not had any problems with the Market, but it has not been a full day yet running the ROM. Good luck!!

For this part... What that is... You can go that low with the screen off... But you can't set values like that in the rom it's self... Because how it changes it in a deeper level... You can use an over clocking app and sweety it that low... Then you will be able to see it in Chevy's tools

Seriously, I've tried CM7 and MIUI and neither lasted more then a couple of hours, too many strange issues. This, so far, is solid and FAST. The jury is still out on battery life, I HOPE that won't be an issue - cause I'm liking this rom alot. Two oddities I have seen though;
1. As was said elsewhere focusing the camera using the soft control freezes the camera. You can use the volume buttons but with the case I have it is not as easy.
2. I'm sure it's a setting somewhere but, the power button will turn the screen off, but not on. I have to use one of the hard buttons to turn the screen on. Luckily I found this before setting the setting to ignore the hard buttons for screen on. Can anyone tell me how to re-enable the Power button to turn on the screen?

Any solutions for the camera zoom freeze issue?
Has anyone seen an issue with auto-brightness, I don't think it is specific to this ROM but maybe with .605. Auto-brightness seems to keep the screen too dim all of a sudden. There are a lot of settings for brightness in this rom but I'm not sure how to set them to solve this problem. I'd appreciate any suggestions.

Chevy- great work man.

Thanks.......

p.S> Maybe I did find an issue. When connected to a Win7 PC in USB Storage Mode the sdcard show up but is not available (0 bytes used and 0 bytes free). If I change to 'Portals and Tools' it disappears completely. HELP...

Thanks, Chevy! The battery life I'm getting is a significant improvement over SSX 2.1 and any of the other 2nd init ROMs I've tried so far.

As someone else mentioned, you can get the Swype installer and apk by signing up for the beta. However, even after installing the Swype beta, I wasn't able to get it working. I suspect this is an issue with the Swype beta rather than something specific to this ROM since the SlideIT demo from the Market installed without a hitch.

Thanks again, Chevy. I'm truly impressed by the performance and battery life of this release.

I had the same problem with 2.1 and had to go back to cyanogen...and I'm having the same problem with 2.2....When I turn off wifi, the 3G icon appears up in the notification area but neither of the blue arrow lights come on and the browser won't connect, the market won't connect...I have no 3G.....HUGE deal breaker...Any ideas anyone?

EDIT: restarted my phone (I know, I know) and now it seems to be working fine........Now onto swype

Restarting is a work around that I did too but its still rather annoying. As for the theme chooser thing, I've tried both themed and unthemed versions and still no luck after reboot.

Yeah. I'd just wipe dalvik cache to be safe. You probably don't even need to do that though.

Are you running any applications that may be affecting your 3G data like Juice Defender? If not try wiping data and starting fresh then check the WiFi and 3G data before restoring all your applications.

As far as the battery life, did you calibrate the battery? You can do this by using the Battery Calibration app in the Market or wiping Battery Stats in the Advanced screen in CWM. DO this on a full charge, let the phone die then completely charge it again.

I sooooooo want to love this rom, because I love chevy and I loved simply stunning on my original droid....but my 3g is way too finnicky, sometimes it works, sometimes it won't. Other times, I can't get it to turn off. Being on a plan with only 100 MB of data, the ability to turn 3g on and off easily is huge. Themes aren't sticking, when I click on a box in the settings and then leave that screen the box doesn't stay checked and there are other little bugs with it that, along with the 3g issue, make me want to revert back to cyanogen. My question is....do I need to do anything special to go back to the latest nightly on cyanogen?

Thanks for the replies, you, Nemo, have been especially helpful in this thread and I thank you for it. I sbf'ed back to 340, rooted it, and then using d2 bootstrap I booted into recovery and flashed the most recent nightly and gapps.

As to the 100 MB of data a month - a lot of wifi my friend....A LOT of wifi. It does suck but for $27 a buck I can't complain...

I was using cm7 now since it first came out in froyo. Switched to GB cm7 when it was available. Liked it but not real happy with battery life. Started using Boot manager, with cm7 as my "phone rom", and battery seemed to get even worse. Switched to Chevy as phone rom and was amazed at how much the battery had improved. At first I thought the battery icon wasn't working but soon learned that it was when after an hour, of light use, it dropped only 1%. Good work Chevy.

Funny, I'm having the exactly opposite. My battery life is very poor. The phone sat this morning unused for three hours, and dropped from 100 down to 69%. I had drained it last night charged it to full and wiped battery stats this morning. I'm not overclocked. I think I'm going to have to go back to Vortex, it was fast, stable, and normal battery life. Disappointing as I liked the rom overall.

I would let it completely die to fully calibrate it. I did this yesterday. Recharged and now at 18 hours, Been on the phone about 1 hour, screen on for 2 hours 12 minutes. Still 57% left. First day wasn't very good, but I am pleasantly surprised today. Been on wifi a lot though.

I use push as well. Obviously volume of emails can make a big difference, I use gmail priority inbox to cut down on the amount. I did flash Jakebites mod, overclocked/undervolted at 1.25 ghz , interactivex governor, also the v6 supercharger, megaram. I feel as these help also. I feel like this is the best of 2ndinits, but not as good as the blurry roms. You have to trade a little battery for better performance/ customization. Worth it for me.

Poor reception can be causing some battery drain, maybe it was your location that was the culprit; I'm constantly at different job sites all over the state.. areas where there is poor reception cause the battery to drain faster.. Last night I flashed back to Vortex (Blur based) 2.8, let it drain to 0, charged to 100% and wiped battery stats. On SSX2.2 yesterday the X was at 69% after 3 hours not used. Today, same conditions (except more email came in during that 3 hour period) and it was at 82%. Still not great but certainly much better.

Those seeing great battery life, how much data do you use? what are your brightness settings?

i'm seeing much better battery life over 2.1, as expected. imo these 2nd init ROMs will prob never hold up to BLUR's battery life...unless we get unlocked.

brightness settings make a huge difference for me. i use custom, 4 levels, as follows:
0-99:35,0
100-3599:75,0
3600-8599:150,0
8600-inf:255,0

dim level: 3
allow light to decrease with 20% hystersis(still playing with this)
i keep my hardkey lights off as i have an otterbox case, never seem them anyway.
the sensor levels come from research into DX's sensor, can only read 0,10,100,3600,8600. there is no in between interpolation as of now, so my settings keep each 'light level' seperate.
the light levels came from plug and play. just have to see what you like best. i used to keep the lowest at 20, but its a little too dim. play around and feel what you like. the dimmer the better.

hopefully this can be a good starting point for some of you for max battery savings. the display is a huge drain, and seems to be the bottleneck of the ROM now, as it should be.

Signal strength also makes a big difference in battery life. Not talking about how many bars but the actual signal quality and strength. I average about 85-95 dBm most days and my battery life is around 30% after about 10-12 hours of moderate use. Waiting on the new version of powerboost for SSX 2.2 to try it out and see how much it helps.

I know that the 3g supercharger script and ssx 2.1 didn't play well together. It would cause the wifi data issue you are describing. I have never tried jakebits.

This was posted on another forum about liquid with jakebites killing wifi.

iquid W/ JakeBites lose Wi/fi

so my issue is that I now have a mini wifi that I carry around in my laptop bag. so obviously I cancelled cell service and set my Motorolla Droid 2 (D2) to run off of it so there's no more service contracts or overcharges, yet free Phone and SMS. But I installed JakeBites v12 on top of liquid and it changes something that I can't figure out... -It shows that I have WiFi in status bar. -In wireless settings it shows i'm connected and shows my MAC/ IP address, so it is recognizing the router -and b4 jake bites it works flawlessly. -I don't wanna get rid of Jake, cuz it makes the rest of the system run so smooth otherwise.

Anyone know what setting I need to change in Term Em. to correct this???

Not sure if it applies but it might be causeing your problems on ssx.

i've had the wifi/3g issue of not connecting when switching on 2 different Xs. both were wiped clean and neither had any data to restore. it's annoying to have to reboot each time i switch from wifi to 3g or vice versa. both Xs were flashed the day after this was released and i've watched the threads ever since hoping for a fix. battery life has been great. love the customization. there's been no lag. i've seen some of the settings not take unless ya reboot. if ya use the power button to switch airplane that won't set til a reboot. the other options to switch to airplane mode seem to work immediately. hot reboot nor switching airplane mode won't reset the wifi/3g issue for me. the only fix is to reboot.

Otherwise my only gripes are minor ones, I wish there was a way to get rid of that green charging led. And the clock in the center of the notification bar is so sexy, but the overlaying of other notifications is messy, so I'm leaving the clock to the right unless a fix is developed.

There's a few roms so far that are using 2nd init on the .602/.605 kernel .. miui and cm7 (revnumbers' not the official nightlies yet) I'm. Not sure if there's any others yet.. but I expect there will be..

Hey guys, I just flashed SSX 2.2 and it is running awesome! I am running into a problem with the screen not rotating. I checked auto rotate in the phone settings and in Chevy tools, but it wont rotate. When I go back into the phone settings, the auto-rotate checkmark is gone again. I think there might be a conflict between the Chevy tools and the phone settings (and possibly the GoLauncher settings) Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Otherwise, another great product from a great team of developers! Congrats Chevy, a beer will be coming your way...

Thanks for the help. I ran the battery down and charged it 100% so I could wipe battery stats, while I was there, I wiped the cache and re-booted. Everything worked when it rebooted. Not sure what fixed it, but thanks. This ROM is awesome, everything I come to expect from a ChevyNo1 ROM.

I have my phone stuck in an endless boot loop.

I have bootloader 30.04. I was running SSX 2.1 and was going to go to 2.2.

My understanding was I needed to be on .602 or .605 to make the move to SSX2.2.

So, I sbf'd .602 - Result - endless boot loop.

Tried it twice.

Next I sbf'd maderstock 2.3.340. I tried bothe the system only and the full file.

Again endless boot loop.

Next I sbf'd 2.3.3.2 Full file named Happy_HOlidays_From_TBH.zip. This unzipped to vrz_mb810_2.3.32_1ff_01.sbf

Again endless boot loop.

Any ideas? I can really use some assistance as I am now out of ideas...

I am usually pretty good at getting these updates done, but for some reason, I must not either be using the correct files, or I may have a bad file...

Thanks in advance for your assistance...

David

How did you sbf to 602? If you didn't try 1kds iso method I would say to try that.

Boot looping is pretty normal after an sbf, sbf to .602 again, then immediately after .. boot into stock recovery, pull the battery, put it back in, hold the home button and power button down as it boots, hit both volume buttons simultaneously when you see the Droid icon, use the volume buttons to navigate the menu, pwr button to select, wipe data factory reset..

Thanks for the advice. I had totally forgotten the boot loop was fairly normal after sbf'ing. I sbf'd to .602, booted into stock recovery as suggested and wiped data and factory reset. I also wiped cache.

Immediately I was able to boot into the phone normally. Next I went to settings and pulled the OTA update for .605. This put me on the latest Verizon version. I was then able to root using psouza4's one click root. Worked like a champ. Just had to remember to unlock after every reboot.

Next I installed Droid2Bootstrap from my SD card, and ran the bootstrapper. It requested root access, and once I allowed it succeeded. I then booted into recovery. I performed another data wipe and factory reset and wiped cache and dalvik cache.

Next I installed SSX 2.2 from recovery by installing SSDX-GB-2.2-update.zip.

Bummer, I got stuck at the red M...

Did I something wrong to get stuck on the red M?

Well, the issue I had with being stuck at the red M could have been a bad download, or just lack of patience on my part. I performed all steps again beginning with the sbf'ing of .602, but used a newly downloaded version of SSDX-GB-2.2-update.zip when I got to that step. The version I used the first time I downloaded directly to my phone and it was a different size than the version I downloaded to my PC. So I copied it over to the phone and when I got to that step, it installed just fine. The red M stayed for a little while, but either I was more patient, or it moved on faster, not sure which. Either way, I am now up and loving SSX 2.2.

My only complaint is I cannot get Swype to work on my phone. The installer just states:
Swype Installation Failed
The data network experienced a problem. Please try again.

The installer I have is v1.0.7625.
I registered on their web site but never received an email with a newer installer, so this is the only version I can find on the net.

If anyone has had success installing the beta of Swype, please let me know hat version you used, and if possible where I can find the installer to download.

i have the beta version... don't like the new key layout behind the regular keys... but that's besides the point...
what i did to get the new installer...(because i didn't get an email with it either.... go back to the beta's website... and request an email... then it will send you the new installer...

Thanks for the advice on how to get Swype working... I was able to go here:
https://beta.swype.com/android/user/resendactivation/
to resend my activation code. I thought it was not sending me the email, but found it was moving to my junk box...

Activated and installed... easy peasy...:big smile:

Also, if you forget your password, you can reset it here:

https://beta.swype.com/android/user/lostpassword/

Thanks again for your assistance... I am loving my SSDX 2.2...

Hey guys -- long time follower of the thread, but first time poster. I've been on Chevy's ROM version 2.2 for a couple of weeks and like it very much, but I missed Swype. Saw the link posted here and downloaded the Beta Version. The install went fairly smooth, meaning I had to reboot a couple of times to get it to allow for the install (check boxes wouldn't stay checked). I am having the same problem with trying to select Swype in the Settings - Language & Keyboard - Swype Settings - Select Input Method - Swype. When I try to select Swype it does not change the "dot" to Swype. The screen just goes back to the previous "Select Input Method". I have tried rebooting while on the selection screen but it still won't allow me to select the Swype option. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
