Im running update 2.2.1 and would like to update to the new GB 2.3 and I don't have service for my phone anymore. Im a complete noob, the only thing I've done is root my phone. I get the acronyms of the droid world but don't fully understand it. Can anyone help me out and point me in the direction of a guide with complete noob proof directions ha?

you can try just connecting to wifi.. then tell it to check for updates... so that way you don't need a plan

I've tried that. Says update fails everytime. If I go through with this becuz I know there's a brick possibility is there an insurance option so I still have my phone working GB'd or not?

system boot file/system binary file... ya... linux... as in linux... it will work on any computer with out having to install anything.... you just download the file.. burn the file to a disc... boot up your computer from the disk.. let the disk load... then let it run

I thought the only reason to do sbf is if you updated from the stock version 2.2.1. Which I still have. System version is still 2.3.3

The reason I've sbf'd numerous times times is because my phone was unable to boy up... And with you're phone not finding the proper files... I don't see a way around it... If i'm wrong... Some one else feel free to step in

Hmm okay. Do you have a link for me to catch up? I just want the stock GB version none of that custom rom. Also links to the boot strap and needed apps. I can only do this through phone unless I hit up the library. It would be very much appreciated if you could help. Thanks if you can or can't.

Nvm found it. Just need bootstrap link. Can you give me a quick run down on updating from stock. I see all these leaked/ custom stuff. Is there a straight forward "do it this way" to get it to work for people not wanting to get high tech

The numbers he's tossing out are the Motorola system versions (Settings - About Phone). The Android version numbers (same location) are 2.2.1 for what was on the phone from the factory and 2.3.3, 2.3.5 for gingerbread updates which were over-the-air (OTA).
