I have Droid X rooted with Rubix focused 1.9.5 ROM on 2.2.1. I have not updated for quite a while and would like to do so. I just updated and re-rooted my wife's stock X (only rooted) on 4.5.605. My problem is I don't know how to get from where I am to where I need to be to be able to get the OTA or do I need a SBF? Thanks in advance.

You need to be stock to get the OTA. We do have a 602 SBF (see droid x sbf link in my profile) which you can use and pull the OTA after or stay on 602. Either way, you can use the Gingerbread Root link in my signature to root it

Personally, I suggest staying on 602 as that's what the ROMs are built for currently.

with a rom on... it'd be easiest and fastest to sbf to 602... then if you want the keyboard fix for stock keyboard... take the ota to 605

So let me make sure I know where I am. Run the SBF per the instructions then grab the OTA for 602. What is the benefit of staying on 602? What will be left on the phone and what wont? Do I need to back up my contacts? Apps should re-download by putting in my gmail info? Is it basicaly like getting a new phone right off the shelf?

Sbf wipes your phone of everything, but whatever is on your sdcard is untouched. It then installs the stock, official version of android contained in the file, so its like a fresh out of the box phone.

Contacts are backed up by google so long as you have auto sync turned on. Also, your paid apps are saved to your account and will be available for download after you setup your google account without having to pay again. The free apps may or may not auto-download....I've had mine do both.

The benefits of staying on 602 is that roms are being made for 602, not 605 right now. Also, I've read a lot of posts of issues with 605 that dont exist on 602.

you'll wanna back up everything you wanna keep... as this will wipe everything out on your phone... but it wont touch your memory card...
and you can grab the 602 sbf... but the latest ota is 605... which is pretty much just a keyboard fix...
and it's best to use another app to back up... like my backup pro or titanium backup...

Alright, SBF'ed, went good, took the OTA to 605. Ran titanium back up and reinstalled my apps and my market and maps aren't working.
