How do I use Maps™ on my phone?

Where am I? Where do I want to go? Don’t worry, let Google Maps™ mapping service find out for you.
Set your location sources

Set your phone to determine your location using GPS satellite signals (highly accurate, but uses battery power) or using the mobile network Assisted GPS (less accurate, but conserves battery power) or through wireless networks.

To set your location, press Menu > Settings > Location & security > Use GPS satellites and/or Use wireless networks.

Tip: If it’s an address you have visited before, select and tap any from the list located below the search engine text box and handset will use that information.

Even when I am standing outside on a clear day my Droid X always says "Searching for GPS". It always shows my current position on the map but never changes my position as I drive toward the destination.

Also, the Navigation is not Muted but I never hear voice commands on where to turn.

Clear data in your maps application.

Go to settings, applications, manage applications, all, maps, force stop, clear data.

Shut down and restart the phone and see if that clears up your map issues. :)

I downloaded a free gps satellite app and that really seemed to help. Its not perfect but when I turn on that app first and then refresh my maps, it usually finds me pretty fast.

I know how to save custom routes under my places on google maps. Using my laptop computer. The problem is I can't seem to get my mobile app. to recognize them. Even though the layers tab has a my places tab. and it does have my first attempt at saving a route on Google maps. Unfortunately that file was a screwed up attempt from the beginning and it doesn't have any usable data in it.

Also after I get the app to recognize routes that I have customized and saved with my computer. Will I be able to us my gps function to follow the route?

Can someone pls. get google maps to introduce some contrasting colors on an update. Or better yet give people an option to chose colors. The white background, yellow or gray lines that make up the roads really suck If you don't have time to study it. Who has time to study a map when your doing 70mph. They need to add contrast to the maps SERIOUSLY. Otherwise I'm going to have to find another map app to use.

Duh!?! Here's my sign. I figured out what I was doing. I have 2 dif. google accounts. I was saving them on one account and the phone was looking for them using the other account. Once I starting saving them under that acct. everything works great. I still hope they will add contrast to the screen though.
