i'm assuming it would be the same as using like the d2 bootstrap.... find the app in your app drawer and click on it... and tell it to reboot into recovery

Yeah should be the same process, I've. Never used a x2 or read about its recovery but it can't be different

First... Are you running a droid x our a droid x2? If an x2 you need to use the x2 bootstrap program... Not for the x...
If on the x are you rooted?

I just completed a backup and it was successful, using Tenfars recovery. Did you choose Internal or External for backup? I had never seen that option in a recovery before when doing a backup. I choose external.

As a rule I always choose external, internal storage can and will be formatted if you don't pay attention during a factory reset; external will not be formatted unless you do it on purpose.

If you life depends on your backup it's also good practice to keep the latest one copied to your computer hard drive or drop box as well.
