Do you need antivirus I installed AVG and it warning me about an infected app but it doesn't tell me what app it is. I have a rooted phone with several apps that use superuser privileges, and I think that is what it is squawking about. is there a better one that I can set ignore rules to it. or am I safe to just run without antivirus.

No, you don't need it unless you are downloading and installing apps other than the apps from the Android Market. If you are getting apps from sketchy places, warez, pirated, etc... stop now. Not good and not safe.

Rule of thumb, if you don't know where its coming from, don't install it. But like I said, if you apps come from the Market, don't need anti virus, its going to eat your battery alive as well.

Doesn't matter what apps you use our where you get them when it comes to anti virus because there are no known viruses for the dx anyway just keep an eye on what permissions these apps ask for especially super user apps

Don't know where you get your information from. There are several known android viruses in the wild, and several applications are removed from the market every month that Google discovers. Most good av for android only checks on install and should not affect battery life.

This is where i get my info from LURKER can android get viruses? - Android Forums (http://androidforums.com/android-lounge/279174-can-android-get-viruses.html) with that being said I have a friend that is a tech at verizon as of now there are no known viruses for the android in the US

like i said keep an eye on your app permission if u doubt the permissions such as why a theme would need network communication permissions then dont trust it or install it.... Also make sure any superuser app that u allow superuser permissions is trusted

Were they viruses or were they malicious apps that operated totally within the permissions given to them and agreed to by the user prior to install, but used them to perform an unwanted function? Cause if they were just the Apps themselves, and did only what they were permitted to do, I wouldn't classify that as a virus, that would be a malicious program and an example of why you need to pay attention to the permissions apps are asking for

My name is Mike, and I'm a flashaholic. But thanks to my sponsor, MIUI, I've been clean for weeks.

Just curious, but are there any known viruses for Android in other parts of the world?

There are no viruses on the android platform in america. Antivirus is not needed.

my 2 cents...
there probably is... but it's pretty illogical to make a virus for the android platform... because each phone from each manufacture on each carrier has different programming... and if you through a mod on there... especially an aosp rom... it changes things even further... which would make it alot harder to be able to cross all the variables..

unless you download from sketchy place...
