View Full Version : Gingerbread root HELP!!!

Here we go:
Not really a noob, but I just got the gb update. I was rooted with z4root, then the gb update obviously knocked that out. I now have sys ver 4.5.596.MB810 Android ver 2.3.3. Can I use z4root again? If not, I need a step by step of what I need to download, do, etc. to back up this version I have and root this *****. I have looked at so many different threads that said do this and this and everyone is different. Use dx bootstrap or d2 bootstrap, have read to use this or that. Can anyone help me get this done? I don't care if I need to purchase a program, I just want to make sure I get the right ones. I have seen where it has been said to use dx bootstrapper, but no use d2 bootstrapper cause it works too and is better. I am lost in all these threads cause none of them are the same. Thx for any help. Z4root was so damn easy, doesn't look like it this time. BTW, couldn't find the newb thread. I have seen several posts to read that first, but no link to it, and can't find it.

You will need to sbf back to froyo and from there get rooted use Droid 2 bootstrap to flash cwm and then download p3droids 2 part gingerbread file which contains root. There is no way to root the OTA within the OS.

This thread (http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-x-discussion/7651-official-dx-gingerbread-2-3-3-4-5-596-release-thread-something-everyone.html) has all of the information you will need for getting to rooted Gingerbread. Unfortunately for you, this will start with an SBF. Download Wugfresh's SBF program from the link in my signature. Once you are on 2.3.340 you will be able to root again. You can either download the 2 part file from the previous link or download the TBH app (http://shop.teamblackhat.info/TeamBlackHat-Application-TeamBlackHat-Application.htm). It is well worth the money. The All-In-One .596 will be the easiest way to get to rooted Gingerbread.
