Well, I guess I went and done it with the uncanny skill of......well, no skill, I just screwd up....and so here it is, first I

create my nandroid backup - success
rebooted into clockwork recovery- success

wiped data/cache/delvik- success

flashed latest MIUI Rom for milestone x- FAIL
no problem right, cuz i still got my nandroid backup and can restore as I've done several times before in my own humble attempts to defeat the 2.2.2 kernel...so I

repeated procedure listed above - success
flashed my nandroid backup - success (so it seemed)
but this time I notice that it takes like 1/3 of the time for the backup to install (in hindsight this is where I believe all this began) and tho I had a brief doubt I rebooted anyway and then.......nothing.....nothing that is but a big M (for mutha...well, you know:wink:) and it just stayed that way...realized i was truly stuck so I

pulled battery & tried booting into clockwork recovery - FAIL
pulled battery & tried booting into stock recovery - success
my only options in stock recovery were (tho many of the board contributors on several forums seemed to have several more options available)
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
so again I

wiped data & cache partition - success
tried initiating factory reset - FAIL
rebooted system to assess the damage - FAIL (still nothing but the M)
so I

downloaded the generic u.s sbf as my local small town carrier uses at&t (96% certain but not proven) as it's provider - success
started rsd lite (drivers in place) & plugged phone into usb - successful Fail**
**my phone was detected but no info came up in rsd except bootloader version (0x003004) and in the device listing under model "S Flash OMAP3630 MI" which i never heard of thru many many hours of reading....my actual phone info

hopefully this is enough of the kind of info that helps me help you......help me. but seriously, any assistance would be greatly appreciated cuz if it isn't resolved with the quickness, like 2 days at most, i'll have to bite the bullet and either take in to my provider who will undoubtedly be able to figure out whats gone down & i'll have to buy a new one at retail price or......i'll just have to buy a new one at retail price....uuggghh, thinking about it sickens me....if someone has answered this somewhere already i apologize but i read so much today that i'm beat up and didn't see any one clear answer, but alot of small bits of info that i have yet to fit to a comprehensive solution.it & tho I'm not a noob when it comes to pc's, I'll admit that this is my first android phone rodeo (small remote AK town & all) i have alot to learn about the whole thing, and i will with time to be sure, but this time my trial and error method ended in....well....error, which kills my success streak & possibly my phone....hmph, i literally have a headache...and if someone has answered this somewhere already i apologize but i read so much today

so.....to the victor go the spoils.....

hopefully this is enough of the kind of info that helps me help you......help me. but seriously, any assistance would be greatly appreciated cuz if it isn't resolved with the quickness, like 2 days at most, i'll have to bite the bullet and either take in to my provider who will undoubtedly be able to figure out whats gone down & i'll have to buy a new one at retail price or......i'll just have to buy a new one at retail price....uuggghh, thinking about it sickens me....if someone has answered this somewhere already i apologize but i read so much today that i'm beat up and didn't see any one clear answer, but alot of small bits of info that i have yet to fit to a comprehensive solution.it & tho I'm not a noob when it comes to pc's, I'll admit that this is my first android phone rodeo (small remote AK town & all) i have alot to learn about the whole thing, and i will with time to be sure, but this time my trial and error method ended in....well....error, which kills my success streak & possibly my phone....hmph, i literally have a headache...and if someone has answered this somewhere already i apologize but i read so much today

so.....to the victor go the spoils.....

okay well, if you can get into the boot loader then just re-sbf. if it keeps failing try another sbf then flash yours, sounds like a bad download so re-download the sbf.

ON the MIUI ROM did you follow my instructions in the earlier posts? you got to change some things in the code for a successful install

i did follow instructions closely and ultimately i screwed up without doubt this is my own fault for trying to do something like that while just worn out from the past work week which in summer is 72hr weeks and no days off....yeah, i make my money for most of the year in 5 1/2 months....but yeah, no one to blame but myself....i was having trouble with my winrar tho, perhaps cause i haven't bought it yet? i usually use 7zip but the instructions said winrar so i used it....but thanks and i'll try it just as soon as i get a new battery (yep, mine died just so my day of failure could end with consistency....anyone know a way of charging a battery in this kind of situation?) but again thanks for the help.....

EDIT: oh crap, in fact as i re-read my own post i realize i left out 2 important bits of info
1. error message in stock recovery was E:can't open/cache/recovery/command
2. an error code in rsd lite...error 37, which in windows is a registry error for damaged or missing registry files....is it the same for the milestone x system? but anyway, i just wanna say again, thanks for the assistance and i know that with my commitment to not having to kick out retail price for a new phone + the absolute brilliance of many of you guys onsite, we can figure this out.....right?.....

hmm... well on your first error, stock recovery does that for me no worries, it really sounds like you just have a bad sbf and that's what is causing your problem, just re-download the sbf and make sure the checksum matches. Also! make sure you have a full battery before your sbf or your really fk'd

Edit: I just re-read your post? you say your carrier uses AT&T? I don't think thats possible the milestone x is only available in CDMA form, who is your carrier, and if your carrier is really using AT&T their is your sbf problem, the sbf is for CDMA milestone x's only and I'm pretty sure thats all their is.
