I haven;t gotten a chance to test this out yet, but I noticed a new ROM up on RootzWiki. It looks Cm7 based, and it includes a variety of fixes and the new market. Might be worth checking it out. Anybody running this ROM yet?

Just flashed this ROM. BY FAR the most customizable ROM I've ever used. So many features. Power button menu also includes screenshot button. You can change every color, font, and status bar icon on the phone. You can install alternative and stock apps automatically in Liquid Settings. Choose boot animations (a lot come with the phone). It's gonna take me hours to wade through all of these!!! :excited:

Guess I should start reading the change log a little more carefully. Camera button is a no go.

CM stands for CyanogenMod. It's a rom built from source code. We are fortunate to have a version available to us. SSX? Based off CM7, built by ChevyNumber1Droid. Get it? Chevy, SS?

You are on the currently current GB build. Not on CM7 at all.

So far I love Liquid! I cannot comment on battery life yet, but it performs like CM7 with more tweaks and is a bit faster (and higher quadrant scores, not that it matters)!

I have noticed one bug though. It is with the custom automatic backlight settings. When I have the light sensor filter enabled to help out on the transitions up, it causes a few problems. First when I turn the screen on in a dark room it is at the lowest brightness. If the phone has gone to sleep, after unlocking it the screen jumps in brightness right away and reports a light sensor reading of appx. 3-4000 (average, not raw). Also, with this enabled, when the light decreases back down to zero, it resets the sensor level back up to about 1700 average and changes backlight level again. A quick screen off and back on helps, but it is very annoying. I just turned this setting off, so now it jumps up immediately when the light changes, but I don't have the random sensor readings causing my screen to go up and down constantly. I actually don't mind it changing immediately, but I prefer it to use the average. I did not have this problem with CM7's version of these settings on any nightly from 17-29.

Kudos! Great ROM as all Liquid ROMs have been. Really like the search button as the camera key option and holding to focus as the picture seems to take before it is focused when set to automatic.

I will report my battery life back after some use.

This rom is amazing! I love it so much! Way better than SSX and CM7. Battery life is a little scetchy though. I don't know if this is a problem but when I set the FOCUS button for quick save on Gameboid (quick tap) is shows nothing and when I do it ingame it restarts the rom. Otherwise that I have seen no problems!

LGXing it up!

So far with CM7 or Liquid, they have not been able to enable the camera button for the camera, so maybe that has something to do with it. Just a thought.

Yes, make a backup in case you don't like it.. Afterwards, do a data/cache/dalvik/battery wipe, and flash LGX and your good to go =)

So first impression on this rom: WOW! I'm loving it! I haven't been this excited over a rom since flashing Apex 1.4 on froyo. There are so many things to tweak in the Liquid settings. Only thing that would be cool to see is a boot image changer to go along with the boot animation changer (unless I'm just not seeing that), but I am very impressed with this thing so far. Battery life doesn't seem as bad as some people have made it out to be. I think this may have found a permanent home on my DX. :)

Can't believe how smooth ROM is. As a habitual flasher I thought I'd reached the peak of my phone's ability. But oh man! I'm getting the same benchmarks as I did on my overclocked liberty. And I haven't even bother overclocking yet or running the super charger script. Just give it a day to cache up and settled. It ran a little rough on my first boot.

Minor issues I'm having so far:
Under goodies, I can't get many boot animations to install. The one that finally worked installed the night rider animation, and that's not even on the list to choose from. But I like it, so no real issue.
Launcher pro sometimes force closes right after the phone has booted up.
Gotta get a different camera app. Don't like that AOSP camera.
Waiting for that camera button...

Things I've noticed that runs better than ever:
Widget locker. It gave me a warning that it might not work. But I went in under liquid settings and deactivated the stock lock screen completely. Widget locker pops up super fast now. I also deactivated the CRT animation.
Besides the occasional FC at start up, Launched pro is really fast and snappy. Used to take a minute to load my widgets, but it's right there at start up.
I could probably just sum it all up with "everything runs smoother", it's like liquid!

I had to flash back to my CM7 backup... I started having the same exact issues I did after flashing the V6 supercharger to CM7. The phone was randomly rebooting and then it froze completely unresponsive 2 times. The second time I did not notice it for a while and it drained the battery from 80% to 7% in about 3 hours. It looks like it is off, but it is on and will not even wake with the power button.

Restored my CM7 backup and works fine again. I don't think some of these tweaks are best for all devices. Oh well.

I just now installed it on SSX, and it seems to be working fine. After I finish charging I'll install Liquid and try it out, maybe low voltage will help batter life... can't let the lurkers have all the fun!

Does anyone know of a way to change the notification text other than Jrummy's Root Tools?

In Chevy's ROM, this was built in but I haven't found it on Liquid's yet...

Battery so far is worse than AOSP Liberty for me. Usually last me all day. Just got home from work with less than 10 texts, one short phone call, browsing forums and Facebook on my lunch break for about 45 minutes and I've got 38% left. Usually I'm at 20ish % before I go to bed. Gonna do another battery cycle or two with calibrations and see if it improves.

You're looking at it wrong. It's not 30% battery drain. It's 30% of the battery drain so far is caused by phone calls.

So if you are at 90% battery left and 30% of the usage was phone calls, you actually drained 3% of your total battery with the phone call (30% of 10% is 3%). Ya dig?

That would depend on how much total battery drained..it's all relative. If you unplugged your phone from a full charge just to take the call, it would be almost 100% of the drain.

If the theme's battery icon isn't built with 1% battery increments, then the stock icon will come up in order to show those numbers that the theme doesn't

I just got ninjad by that last post haha but what you'll need to do is pull the apk of whatever theme you want and substitute the icons and put it into a flashable rom zip as a system all because otherwise it won't install since its unsigned. I just sign apps with zipsigner. And I actually want the icons from this one. I'll just try finding the battery xml files from a theme that supports 1% battery increments and report how that goes..

But yeah, zipsigner is awesome, just make sure that you delete the META-INF file in the apk before zipping it up and trying to re-sign.

Barnacle is working fine with all the CM roms and it does the same thing as the hotspot app. Since you're already paying VZ, you could just use it (or Wireless Tether) and sleep the Sleep of the Just (FYI: I don't pay them anymore than I can avoid, and I sleep pretty good anyway!)

Blur camera will not work on complete AOSP rom. It needs some blur frameworks to operate. Plus the AOSP camera is better anyway, as you get full 8MP pics instead of 8MP pics cropped down to 5MP widescreen like the blur camera does.

You can't restore gb backups from CM based roms ..you would need to be stock froyo then grab two part Gb for all to get back to gingerbread ...I would after sbf make yourself a backup stock froyo..then you can try Liauid or any other CM roms ..if for some reason you want to go back to gb596 then you can get there from stock froyo backup to flash the two part zip method ..now you can restore previous gb backups..I know a pain ...but I don't think you will go back lol

Found this fix for getting the Thb app to work and it looks like it fixed android overclock also. Edit build.prop line 16.

It should say
ro.product.model Droid X

Change to
ro.product.model DROIDX

after doing this android overclock module loaded and oc now looks like it is working. Make sure you us all caps for DROIDX

Don't forget to reboot after change.

In that case, I would guess it's one of 3 things:
1. Download method - direct to phone or download to pc and transfer to phone.. ie: if you're doing one, try the other to rule out bad cables or bad wifi/3g connections
2. Bad SD card
3. Bad USB cord

I'm assuming it's the same as TiBu where it unlocks everything on the phone. Just talking about files. So the most useable function would be to remove any unwanted programs. And I don't see how it's different from regular root access.

Well i downloaded the file directly to the phone, and tried another SD card, still no luck. Same error. I think i read on some developers website about something called having "bad blocks" on my phone or something. oh well... no liquid for me. Guess ill try out SSX. Cm7 seemed pretty awesome

Sent from my Droid X using Droid X Forums

Yeah you should always do a Battery Calibration when switching to a different ROM. There is a couple ways to do this either download Battery Calibration form the Market or reboot into recovery and wipe battery stats under Advanced. Both should be done on a full battery charge.

popcenator
07-21-2011, 04:12 PM
You could calibrate the battery, but from what I hear battery life hasn't been the greatest on Liquid (which has been my experience too).

To do so, charge the phone completely, the boot into recovery, go to advanced, the wipe stats. Unplug the phone and let the battery drain until it dies, then recharge to 100%

Or get the battery calibration app and let the phone charge 100% then hit calibrate and follow the same procedure.

Currently on ssx 2.0. Im not sure if i want to flash liquid quite yet. I think ssx is amazing, fast and smooth. But say i were to flash could i just wipe data, cache, dalvik, and battery stats. Without sbf? If a rom we want to flash is cm7 based,(and we are currently on a cm7 rom) is there no need to sbf? Can we just flash ssx 2.0 to liquid 2.3, and then back to cyanogenmod 7 cm4dx? lol serious tho (cant get over chevyno1 and his ssx rom)

Yes, wipe data, cache and dalvik cache, no need to SBF. Switching between CM based ROMs is as simple as just wiping those things before flashing.

Sadness... I have used Liquid all day and while it runs amazingly most of the time, I am having the same issues I had on LGB 2.3. The phone reboots randomly (CM7 did that, so it doesn't bother me that much, although it does it more) and the worst part is the phone will freeze while sleeping and even on calls. It just stops responding and cannot get calls or even turn on the screen. It is still on, as the notification light is still blinking, but I have to pull the battery. I had these issues when I installed V6 supercharger on CM7. I think it is the device, as nobody else seems to be having these issues and it is not an app, as it did it even with nothing installed. Called Verizon and was offered a DX2 or a Droid Incredible 2 as a replacement. I seriously considered the X2, but I wasn't sure a slight upgrade to a phone with a locked bootloader still was the best option. Yeah my accessories don't work now, but who cares. Try something new for a few months until I get the Bionic.

It was a tough decision, but new toys are fun. I still have my OG Droid and will miss the X, but I will be back to moto with the Bionic soon enough.

Sent from my DROIDX using Droid X Forums

Yep. I did not with 2.3, that was a straight install from CM7, but with 2.4, I did a full SBF since I had been getting a lot more reboots on CM7 lately. Fresh install, with no apps installed and nothing restored from TiBu yet, the phone completely froze. I thought it was maybe a fluke so I went on with my day. A few hours later, it was frozen again. Then it froze while on a call and dropped the call. Then on the charger. Meanwhile it rebooted about 8 or 10 times.

These issues are the exact same regardless if I am on Liquid 2.3, 2.4 or if I am running CM7 with the V6 supercharger script. This leads me to believe that there may be a memory issue with the device itself since this does not seem to be a widespread issue. This is my 4th refurb X since I got the phone in December. I still have my OG Droid that I got in 09 that has not been replaced once. Oh well. This gives me a chance to learn and play with another device for a while. I still love Moto Androids and intend to get the Bionic once root is achieved (and obviously released first) and I have no hard feelings toward the X. I still love the X, but i am a phone junkie, so a new toy is not a bad thing.

I flashed LGB 2.4 on my X, running froyo and rooted, and got stuck in a boot loop. I tried 4 or 5 methods to boot into Clockwork Recovery without success. SBF'd back to Froyo using VRZ_MB810_2.3.34_1FF_01.sbf and RSD Lite 4.7. Then, it took Z4 Root 5 hours, but I am rooted. I would like to try Liquid GB. I originally flashed LGB using the DX Bootstrapper and I forgot to unfreeze some apps, could either of those be why I got stuck in a boot loop?

Thanks

No, that shouldn't matter, but did you wipe data before installing? Either way though, you should try a factory reset/data wipe in stock recovery.

Bootloops can sometimes happen after flashing any rom. You can often boot to the stock recovery and do a factory reset and it will boot. As long as it flashed correctly, that will usually resolve issues with cache or data partition. The bootstrapper for the initial install is correct, but don't put it back after that. Frozen apps only matter if you are upgrading stock rom with newer version. Neither of those are likely your issue. I would try again and if it bootloops, just go to stock recovery (home and power) and then factory reset and reboot. You should be good.

Before flashing LGB, I did wipe data and cache in clockwork, tried to wipe dalvik, got an 'unable to mount mmcblk...' error, but it said 'dalvik wiped'. Since I had already wiped data and cache, I went ahead and installed zip from sdcard. Maybe I should have restored my backup at that point and done more research instead. But, you're saying it's ok to use the dx bootstrapper instead of the d2 bootstrapper, and if I get stuck in a boot loop again, to try wipe data/factory reset (that's a single selection, I don't need to select wipe data/factory reset twice do I?) in stock recovery ?

Thanks for your help.

D2 Bootstrapper is recommended, but the DX one should work fine since you are coming from froyo. If it boot loops after install, go to stock recovery and choose the option for factory reset (I think that is how it is labeled, but it may say wipe data/cache). After that reboot and you should be able to boot.

Looking over the changes, I can't see anything that looks like it would pose a problem to leave data intact, but there are no guarantees there. I would just weigh the time options for all solutions. Upgrade with no wipe, ~6-10 min. Upgrade with wipe, could vary depending on how you backup/restore your apps, but typically ~10-60 minutes. If something breaks, SBF ~20-30 min, root and restore backup ~20-30 min. So it is just a balance of risk. If you do it, just make sure you have somewhere you can SBF if something goes wrong. Likely it will upgrade just fine though.

I believe that failed to mount message is referring to CWM trying to mount an internal sd card, which the phone does not have. I don't believe that error has any relevance to the actual clearing of it, as I have gotten the message too and it still clears. I know it works because the phone takes an extra 3 or so minutes to boot. If you do cache/data wipe, the dalvik is cleared anyway, since if I remember it is on the data partition or in some ROMs the cache partition. If you do any upgrades WITHOUT data wipe, definitely wipe dalvik.

I went ahead and did it without data wipe since I'm home now and can sbf easily. I charged to 100%, wiped cache, dalvick, and batt sats. A strange thing happened during the bootanimation where the screen went dark but then the animation repeated. Thought I was in a bootloop but waited a few more minutes because after a dalvick wipe it always takes longer to boot up and sure enough it booted up fine. So far no fc's like it was having before. So a warning be patient the bootanimation acts strange after a dalvick wipe. 2.4 seems to flash well over 2.3 without a data wipe!

Edit: I did it via rom manager and used CWM 40.05.

Yes, use Z4Root to gain root access on Froyo, then you need to get D2 Bootstrap in order for you to get into CWM. Once your in CWM then you can flash Liquid 2.4. I would format data and cache just before flashing LGB 2.4.

Just make sure once you are on Liquid do not install D2 Bootstrap, there is an option to get into recovery from the Reboot menu. I guess D2 Bootstrap will cause quite a bit of issues if used on a CM7 based ROM!!

+1 Correct, do not install any of the DX or D2 Bootstraps, 2nd-INIT based ROM's like CM7, Liquid, MIUI, have the newest updated (version 4.0.0.5) Custom Recovery already installed, flashing those older version will brick the phone.

try clearing app data for market and re open market, see what happens. Seemed to help. Still a little quirky but working. Haven't been too keen on this new market. Thanks for the help.

Yeah I agree ..sometimes the updates you have to wait on them...I tried old market from goodies switch and I lost the market so i restored the backup..

Thank you Silver ...

Just flashed it over the top of 2.4 with only cache wipe ..got stuck for a bit on boot and I got a blank screen was gonna pull battery but I waited and it booted ...so far good I even went back changed font and boot up was normal ..

Changes I notice ..locksliders more transparent ..option to disable them with pin/password/pattern and battery remove from status bar option (Yayyy)...I will report back if anything else either way ..

I've run the checksum for two different downloads on V2.5 (they matched) but are nothing like the ones listed on Rootzwiki. Is this cool?

I also checked off roaming which was unchecked ..shouldn't make a difference but I'd figure I share ..

Just flashed 2.5, no wifi or 3g. Rebooted a couple of times and turned Airplane mode off and on. No help so far. Going back to 2.4, I guess. By the way, BK, you had same checksum that I had. My first download was on iffy 3g but second was on hardwired dsl and they both matched yours.

OK, just hit a big problem. I'm trying to get back to v2.4 but when I shut down with the power switch, boot into recovery is no longer an option. Any ideas on how to get to my backups?

I had trouble getting the check sum to match 2.4 i know that. Had to transfer from computer to sd card 2 times. had to use a different usb port and it went first time and md5 was perfect. All the problems your having are prolly a bad dl if it does not match the devs numbers he expects the file to be.

Put it on airplane mode and also make sure wifi is off..then reboot phone with airplane on ...when you get back turn off airplane ...also I posted roaming setting I switched might help ..

I used rom manager to get to clockwork ..

Couldn't get anywhere with the airplane mode method but was able to nandroid back to v2.4. Was a little (maybe a lot!) jumpy about using Rom Manager with all the dire warnings about old bootstraps. Thanks for reassuring me, again. Thanks once more.
