View Full Version : am I the only one who think gingerbread threads are confusing

I was thinking of upgrading to gingerbread but I cant figure out which file to use. there's a couple of stickies that mention the upgrade, but I cant tell which one to use. same for roms. i looked at the first 3 pages of liberty and no link whatsoever to a liberty rom, as for apex, forget it its the same way.

I wish the gingerbread thread was as friendly as the froyo is. we really need somebody to create a gingerbread hacking guide like there's for froyo so the rest of us dummies can know what to do.

please guys can somebody create a user (dummny like me :)) friendly guide to updating to gingerbread? and a rom guide like this one

it would be really awesome to help the rest of us who are technical challenged.

as an example of the stickies, which of these 3 should i follow? all 3?

in your situation i would recommend installing a gingerbread ROM thats already rooted as opposed to the TBH leak..for example

[ROM] ZombieStomped 1.6 (.591 DX GB Motoblur build) - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum (http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-x-roms/144710-rom-zombiestomped-1-6-591-dx-gb-motoblur-build.html)

or liberty v 0.4 is coming out sometime today (as of right now you can only get it through the "libert tool box donate" app thats why you cant find it) so when that is released to the public you could install that.. then you dont have to go through some other guide to root and deodex.

any questions?

I was totally confused as well but last night tried this and it seems to have worked (and allowed nijamorphing of icons!!) from .573--

I pre-downloaded and placed on my sd card only these files----
3 part .588 sbf files
droid2 bootstrap

Using macpro88's terrific 3 part sbf instructions Gingerbread 2.3.3 (4.5.588) Successful Installation Guide (http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/gingerbread-development-hacking/24642-gingerbread-2-3-3-4-5-588-successful-installation-guide.html) (and maybe extra wiping of data and cache)

I was then on .588, skipped activation,

used droid 2 bootstrap to get into clockwork to apply ONLY the "nobloat" file,

wiped everything (cache, data, dalvik--I admit I went a little crazy with the wiping)

Reboot the phone into stock recovery (Holding down the home button) and wipe

rebooted, skipped activation again,

used droid 2 bootstrap to apply only GB_.591_Deodexed.zip

wipe everything (cache, data, dalvik),

Reboot the phone into stock recovery and wipe

rebooted, activated, reloaded all my apps

used root explorer to install gingerbreak so I can ninjamorph....

Liberty v.5 is out now with a full install from Froyo as an option from the donate Toolbox...

It is confusing and way different compared to froyo. Do I need to install .591, reboot and then install apex?

You need to be on any version of gingerbread, but if your on anything other than the .591 leak you will have to update the kernel as well.
