Just to clarify it a bit for folks:

http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/rr102/mikeinrichmond/apex20updatepath.png

From Fab:

"WIPE DATA AND CACHE (unless you were an Alpha tester)

1. You must be on a Gingerbread based ROM. If not, see diagram above for the upgrade path from Froyo to Gingerbread.
2. If you are on .588 or below, install the kernel update while installing ApeX Part 1 (during the same Clockwork recovery session)
3. If you are on .591, install ApeX Part 1
4. After booting into ApeX once, you can install D2 Bootstrapper and install Part 2."

So make sure you do #3, install part 1, reboot, get D2 Bootstrap going, then do number 4...

Another convenience is to have the D2Bootstrap apk on your sd card to start with...

I posted this one last night on that.. Me thinks we doth haveth too many ApeX 2.0 threads going in DXF. Need one main reactor core. :)

[ROM] ApeX V2.0.0 Beta (5/3/2011) - Android Forums (http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/329310-rom-apex-v2-0-0-beta-5-3-2011-a.html)

It's out on forum. Get some. Disclaimer of course. Mod at your own risk and follow instructions to the letter.

Also just a note/FYI: If coming from alpha 2, double-check that opening a contact actually opens ok instead of killing the contacts app. Might be a little uh oh requiring a data wipe reflash. Data incompatibility between versions. I have to check mine when I can get to the device. I hope it's not. I thought I was getting away with something without data wipe rebuild. :)

imho it's not messy, it just takes into account the many varied entry points ppl can be coming from. it's obviously more work coming directly from froyo, but myself I've been following the gb leaks pretty consistently so I appreciate that I can just flash 1 file to get to the beta. for others it's just an extra incremental file. nicer than a one size fits all requiring downgrades. I'd think it also makes it slightly less complex of a flashed file so there's less possibility of things that could go wrong...

I flashed three files from alpha-2 and it was about as easy and quick as 1 big file prior.. The confusion arises whereas before all the leaks, we all knew where we were starting from. Govt issue froyo .340. Not so much now, so how you get to the final cheese depends on where you are in the mouse maze. :) .340, .573, .588, .591.. It's naturally going to be a little more complicated.. We're talking 95, 97, NT2000, XP, Vista, etc etc.

I think that flowchart is as cool as it gets. About the only thing I'd add would be what are the appropriate wipes in-between. Spoon-fed to completion at that point, IMO.

Is upgrade path to apex 2 same as 591 as from 595?
In other words if I am on 595 odexed or deodexed do I follow same procedure as if I was on 591?

+1. I'm holding off going to 591 or 595 based on the answer. Also curious if I should use the odexed or deodexed version if I can use 595. Thanks!

I am still waiting for someone smarter than me to respond.

It would make sense that, since Apex 2 is 591 based, that we could not go from 595 to Apex 2.

Can anyone confirm?
