Thread has pretty much deprecated, see here for more info on the newest leak of GB for the DX: http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/gingerbread-general-discussion/27636-official-dx-gingerbread-2-3-3-4-5-596-release-thread-something-everyone.html (http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/gingerbread-development-hacking/24642-gingerbread-2-3-3-4-5-588-successful-installation-guide.html)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++

You will need to be back on Android 2.2.1 and System 2.3.340 for this work! So start .sbf'ing if and only if you are on the non-rooted version of GB that was released prior to this! If you are already on 2.3.340, root and bootstrap and follow instructions bellow! (Instructions are different if you have a Droid2 as well, D2 users will need to go back to System 2.3.20 for this to work)

Detailed instructions on SBF process here: http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x-hacks/22394-sbf-detailed-guide-success-windows-7-a.html and here: http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/droid-x-hacks/23638-linux-solution-your-windows-rsd-lite-problems.html

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

(BEFORE YOU START THIS PROCESS, HAVE A 100% CHARGED BATTERY! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!)

To get ROOTED Gingerbread AFTER you are back to System 2.3.340:

1. Download the following file from MDW and place on the root of your SD card.

File size = 175.8 MB (184313550 bytes)
md5sum = 52c88ab0c2954f1a1624f72e502175cc (MD5 Checker - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com (http://download.cnet.com/MD5-Checker/3000-2092_4-10410639.html))
-Please note that the MD5 Checker is a Windows program, not Android.

For Android:

You can use AFV (Android File Verifier) on your phone. It's very simple to use. Basically just select the file, long press it, and select Calc MD5 Checksum. You can then compare it to what it's supposed to be. It will also verify nandroids for you.

Sent from my DROIDX using Droid X Forums

PLEASE VISIT Droid X Gingerbread (2.3.3) - Release - PreRooted (http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-x-discussion/6729-droid-x-gingerbread-2-3-3-release-prerooted.html) FOR DOWNLOAD LINKS!
The name of the new rooted and patched GB Build should be "dxgbrooted.zip" for those wondering. Again, do not post other download links in this thread without P3's consent.

2. Boot your phone into bootstrap recovery, wipe data/cache.

3. Install the file you downloaded above just like you would any other ROM.

4. Sit back and watch (Your phone will bootloop for approx 30 secs, if any longer than that, pull battery and restart your phone.).

5. After the .zip is installed, wipe data/cache again in bootstrap before you reboot, if it makes you feel any better, do this three times ;).

Also:
If you are currently running on 2.3.340 you do not need to wipe when upgrading. If you are running a ROM based on 2.3.340 (Liberty, Fission, TranQ, Darkslide) you need to wipe when upgrading to rooted gingerbread.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To Deodex your rooted Gingerbread:
You will need to be on the rooted Gingerbread that you just installed from above.

To get the appropriate file: http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-x-discussion/6789-droid-x-2-3-3-gingerbread-deodexed-rooted.html

1. Place file in the root of your SD card.

2. Boot into bootstrap recovery.

3. Flash the file, no need to wipe data/cache

4. Reboot phone, which may take a few extra minuets to boot than normal, so don't panic.

For more information on deodexing and what it is: http://www.droidxforums.com/forum/hacking-help/21960-deodexing-explained-how.html

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Droid 2 Bootstrap application can be used to get into Clockwork Mod's Bootstrap Recovery. If you do not have the Droid 2 version, you can now use the Droid X version, just make sure that USB Debugging Mode is turn OFF.

When you get into Bootstrap successfully, make sure the FIRST THING YOU DO IS MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP!

Titanium Backup has been reported to be working, as always, use caution and restore app data only, restoring system app data could be dangerous, you have been warned!

Remember this! ROM's for Android 2.2.1 System 2.3.340 will NOT WORK WITH THIS! We are completely changing the Android Operating System with a completely different base!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also note that there is no way for us at least to root GB on a non-rooted version of GB, the only way to obtain root access is to download the cracked version provided by P3.

You should now have gingerbread and it should be rooted!

Please do no post alt links for this, go to MDW and get it there. Unless you have P3's consent to do so, which I know he won't ;)

Are you on Win 7 64 bit? Use RSD Lite 4.8, not 4.9. Right click it when and choose run as admin.

Boot the phone in to bootloader, and then connect the phone to the pc, the driver should auto install. if not, make sure you have actually downloaded the drivers from moto, not just let the auto install ones install. find them here USB and PC Charging Drivers - Motorola Mobility, Inc. USA (http://www.motorola.com/consumers/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=bda09ec8009a0210VgnVCM10000088 06b00aRCRD)

No this is a leaked version, and once you have it you can't get back without SBF flashing your phone because there is no root for Gingerbread yet. So if you install the zip file no titanium to restore your apps or to freeze the bloatware.

I will try Gingerbread again once someone confirms root so I can restore a back-up and get back to normal if I don't like it.

Microsoft... Just sayin'. I'm done with MS. Then again, Trenton bricked on Ubuntu then had to pull out the Windows laptop to fix. hehehe Maybe it's just SBF'ing in general.

Anyway, I saw the root tweet last night and nearly spit my beer all over the screen.. Dang that was fast. GOOD NEWS.

I just want to clarify something from one of the more experienced members: From unrooted gingerbread I SBF back to stock 2.3.340, I root using z4root, download droid x bootstapper and flash the rooted gingerbread with a data wipe and then proceed as usual. My question if I want to go back to one of my old rom nandroids, someone said you cant flash an old nandroid on the new system. Does that mean I would need to SBF back or since we have root I can go back using maderstcock or the TBH full 2.3.340 as an update zip using bootstrapper and then flash my older nandroid.

I don't really expect to want to go back but I just want to be clear. Things come up and its better to know beforehand.

To go back you would need to either
1. SBF with RSD lite or SBF Utility back to 2.3.340, and then restore a nandroid

DONT RESTORE a nandroid from 2.3.340 while on GB... incompatible firmware... will cause a brick most likely.

2. Use maderstock, then restore nandroid
3. Use TBH SBF in update zip format and restore nandroid.

NO, you can not flash a old nandroid on a new system, will throw you into bootloops. You might have success restoring user app data from Ti, but stay away from restoring system app data, that is dangerous.
You will have to go through that process to get back on one of your nandroids.

Yes but there are no instructions yet. I'll wait before I update to Gingerbread again, the whole SBF flashing thing was a huge pain.
Yea, he changed the file. It comes rooted now. From what I'm reading, and what Colorado just confirmed.

So, the question will be this:

Should I SBF back to 2.3.340 nd reinstall GB once the fixed file is released, OR, can I install the D2 recovery program and then flash the new GB file, then install the DX recovery program.

Opinions?

You can buy it from the Market for 2$, as far as I know, the site that the dev had the app for free is longer available. I think you might be stuck paying for it, and I AM NOT going to include a link for a free a paid app without the devs permission.

The fixed file is up, you just have to use D2 bootstrap instead of the DX bootstrap, the D2 bootstrap is more updated than the DX one, that's why we have to use it, its the same thing none the less.

Flash the latest zip from MDW. Just use the Droid2 Bootstrap app from the market instead of the Boostrap for the X like you've always done.

OK GUYS, you HAVE to use the D2 bootstrap to get into recovery! It is the same thing and does the same functions! The D2 bootstrap app is updated more than the DX version, don't let the name confuse you! It does the exact same thing, just they were build for two different builds. Just like with the new Blur 3.4.2 came out, we had to use the D2 bootstrap there as well, until Koush updates the DX bootstrap app to work with 2.3, you HAVE to use the D2 version!

Correct. You can use the Droid X Bootstrap utility to get into ClockWorkMod, flash the GB zip. From THEN ON, use the Droid 2 Bootstrap app as the Droid X Bootstrap app doesn't work in GB.

If you are on the NON Rooted GB build, you have to start over, with no root, you get no bootstrap.

@p3droid For anyone who has already downloaded, i included the dev recovery file so your recovery is broken..otherwise it will work great

so with that being said if I can use d2 bootstrap to get into CWR I shouldn't have to reflash....i think the new file he is posting makes it so where you can use DX bootstrap if I'm not mistaken... can someone confirm this when they flash the new root file?

I believe you have to use D2 regardless due to the difference in build...not sure either will work with the old file but what do i know I'm still waiting on my DL

This just answered a question i was about to type...may be helpful to some

@P3Droid (http://twitter.com/P3Droid) so if we flashed this morning..can we just reflash over it...or is there a data wipe with having updated recovery?

@Buckeyefreak (http://twitter.com/Buckeyefreak) no ur good just wait for the recovery patch
