View Full Version : New SD Micro (16gb) for my X. How DO?

I'm rooted (Liberty 1.5), have a bunch of cool apps on my phone that I really like (and paid for)...and, I am one of the unfortunate few that had to wait to get an X (due to an unscrupulous Verizon rep)...thus leaving me with a 2gb Micro SD installed verses the 8gb that I expected.

Instead of a shot of Viagra (swapping the 8gb out of my EnV Touch, I gave that to my wife because we both like the same music)....I went with the enlargement, I got a 16gb. MY 8 was maxed already, the additional apps would have pushed it over the limit.

What's the best procedure for swapping these out? Can I put the music on the 16gb then copy the files from my 2gb on my computer? Is it that easy?

Yes. Just that simple!

Next question:

I have about 1226 songs on my comp, I'd like to have them in a folder instead of running around my SD all willy-nilly. I created a folder, but it will only let me put about 37 songs in the folder, any ideas?

Umm. Try making the folder on your computer, then putting the songs in it. Then drop it on your sd. I find that putting the folder in the 'media' folder works great. Actually I drop albums in sd/media/music. This has solved some playback problems. I don't know what's up with what you experienced. If it continues, give a detailed explanation of what you did and the results. Also, if you got the MICROSD to SD adapter card use it. It is the fastest transfer that I've used. Like 9GB in 15 minutes fast.

What is worse - they downgraded the Droid X but putting in a smaller SD Card and then started calling it the Droid X2. It gives the impression that the phone is a new model when you are actually getting the same phone but with a smaller card. The wonders of marketing.

Ok...I'm still having trouble. I did this 1,000 times with my Voyager and EnV Touch and it went flawlessly. I'm starting to think my $20 Singaporian 16G Micro SD is to blame.

Here's what I'm starting with:

DroidX connected via USB, containing 2G Micro SD which holds all the apps, pics, etc. I've added to the phone in the month I've owned it. (Connected for mass storage.) (H:)
(Odd but regular, when I plug my DX in, my comp shows Motorola CD Drive G:)
SD > Micro SD adapter containing 16G Micro SD. (F:)
Music folder from my desktop.

1.) Format 16G Micro SD.
Cap: 15.2G
File Sys: FAT32
Allocation Unit Size: 8192 bytes
Quick format
2.) Create "Music" folder on H:
3.) Highlight/Copy/Drag contents of H: to F:
4.) Highlight/Copy/Drag contents of Music folder to "Music"folder on F:
5.) 7.24G copied in 45 minutes.
6.) Eject F:
7.) Power off DroidX
8. Put card from F: into DroidX

Results:
A.) The iPhone Widgetlocker shows up instead of the "invisible" one on my card...bad sign
B.) Reboot.
C.) Only about 200 songs copied. #-D (by artist)
D.) Poweramp played them once and now it won't play anything.

Any ideas?

So all music shows up on the sd on your computer but not your DX? I got a bit confused, but that's what it sounds like you're saying.

Nope, sorry about that. Only those 200ish show up either place, and it won't let me put anymore on.

Just wondering what class 16g card did u get? It will say on the card a small c with a number in it.

There are some numbers (?) stamped into the back of the card, but it would take a microscope to read them.

Try this. Copy 2G sd onto computer. Wipe 16G with computer. Copy all 2G contents onto 16G. There should ne a media folder. Open it then the music folder inside or make one if there isn't one already. Copy some music onto it. Put 16G back in DX. See if it's all there. If so, put the 16G back in computer and copy all music you want in it. Then put back in DX and see of it worked. If not you may have a crappy card.

Is it a knock off card? Because the dx uses a class 4 card if u go above that or use a knock off its just gonna piss u off and the number is under where it says 16g if its not there its a knock off get ur money back and get a class 4. This dose matter as to how ur dx will read and write data to and from the card. Also u might as well just get a 32 there's about a 15 to 20 dollar diff between the two

There is no number on the front. I will attempt a refund if fezrocks idea isn't successful.

I tried it with the same results, only about 200 songs copied. I guess maybe its a bad card.
