download ninjamorph use it to start new project select your current framework-res.apk once extracted back out of ninjamorph u now have a folder on sd card called androidthemes

connect phone to pc using mass storage open which ever xml editor you have then select open file go to androidthemes\workspace\framework-resapk\res\xml from here choose eri.xml

this next part i take no credit for got it from another thread

On line 000001C0, you will see text along the right hand side that says Verizon Wireless.

Boom! Thats what your going to change! Now, DO NOT delete anything. Simply put your curser BEFORE the "V" in Verizon and type what you want!

*NOTE* After the verizon wireless text there are a bunch of " . " Make sure there are THREE " . " before the number "65". If there are less, you used to many characters. You can replace a total of 16 characters. ALSO, if you don't use ALL 16 Characters, remember to put SPACES in (AS IN USE THE SPACEBAR, DO NOT DELETE) up until the THREE " . " before the "65" .

EXAMPLE!!
Stock:
64...Verizon Wireless...65
Modified:
64...DroidX ...65

once you are done editing click save

unplug phone then go back into ninjamorph to existing projects tap the framework-resapk then copyfiles then hit back button and finish project
when phone reboots u have a new banner

as always make a back up before making any changes to your droidx
ive learned the hard way

Edit
For those with no banner here is a fix you must have ninja morph

Use a png editor like paint.net its a free program for windows
Go to android themes, workspace, framework-resapk, res, drawable-hdpi, on sd card find the png named "status_bar_header_backround.9"
When opened with paint you can insert text with whatever font is on your pc, change color or add picture
When done save and run ninja morph to finish project

Edit
With the png method you can also exceed the 16 character limit that the xml method imposes

If you have a banner and want a pic instead just overwrite current banner in the eri.xml with spaces

I think if you goto the eri.xml and go to the line specified it will be blank between the 64... ...65 do the same thing and over write the blank spaces

I tried that...kinda...here is a screenshot of my eri.xml file via astro file editor (which also makes me wonder, can these changes be done on the phone)?? I used your instructions above and added the "." by 64 and 65and typed over VZW but when I rebooted, it gave me "no service" and I could not get back 3G, 1X, etc but wifi worked fine...so I restored my backup...thoughts?

I made the edits to mine on the phone - but I had no way to confirm if it worked since - it would only read "no service" and no matter what, I couldn't get it to connect to the network (3G, 1X, etc)...

Okay, but back to my initial question...if I used my laptop and open the file - do I need to add the "."s after 64 and before 65?

When I edited on my phone (I wish I would have taken a screenshot) but this is what it looked like....

64...Faith.Hope.Love ...65

One space to make the 16 total characters....but if you look at the screenshot, it appears to be more than 16 which is probably why mine doesn't appear to begin with...

Try editing with a hex editor, it will maintain the character count and maintain the file format and parameters when saving.

I wonder if there is a setting in that file or ? That has disabled your banner, are you able to compare your file with another where the banner displays ?

Thanks Shawn, I used your png method to make my first self done mod to my X! I just had one question- Im on the Galaxy S theme and the header was a png already not text and all I really wanted to do was change the background to black from white. There were 2 files that looked identical (status_bar_header_background.9.png and status_bar_header_backgroundx.9.png) so I changed both of them. I used ninjamorph and picsay photo editor. I installed and rebooted and it worked just fine. Ninjamorph asked if I wanted to zipalign. I don't know much about that but I went ahaead. I have the black background I want but when I booted up I had a different wallpaper installed on my home screens. It was easy enough to change back but I didn't know if it was something I did. Should I have only changed the one file? Also as you will see from the screen shot the clear button is right over part of the banner. Is there a way to changed that?
Thanks for the thread and any advice. I am just putting my toes into the water of self mod so Im pretty nervous.

the background is the stock wallpaper. In ninjamorph you can change it otherwise everytime you use ninjamorph it will default to that. No biggie. If you're on a rom then they zipalign at boot anyway. Not sure of thetechnical answer but it doesn't matter if you zipalign. I normally just do it anyway.

@shawn. Is ninjamorph supposed to automatically reboot? I was trying to change the banner. I am on GB juiced. I found the eri.xml and I changed it to Juiced Ginger on my computer, went back to ninjamorph it packaged and said finished but did not reboot. I did so manually. The change dio not take.

Im sorry to hear that. Hope you feel better soon. Migraines are awful! The rom is pretty straight forward. I just finished setting up my apps and I will take one stab at changing the verizon banner. Its getting late tonight. And I decided to give myself a week to see what kind of changes I can make on my own before flashing a theme instead! Get a good night sleep and I hope the headache is gone by morning.

I finally managed to swap out my verizon wireless out yesterday using the hxd program. I would of liked to use the pngs to do something a bit more dramatic but couldn't figure out which was the correct png. Framework-res.apk or SystemUI.apk so I kept it simple. Ninjamorph worked fine. I had to do it a few times and it did lock up at the end, but resolved by battery pull or twice pushing the power button and it went into reboot. I'd like to do more but I really am confused with things scattered all over, and I'm new to this and even people with experience are having issues. I probably have to wait for themers to do it for me. Oh well, I just hate the white backgrounds every where and so far neither of the two available themes for stock GB address that at all..
Here's my banner-not very exciting but it's mine. :-)

I think this is my first post, being a really nob to this stuff I am trying to edit my "Verison Wireless" logo at the top of my screen. I have tried to edit this in my XML editor that I just downloaded (MindFusion (http://www.mindfusion.eu/product1.html)) but keep getting the following message...

"The XML page cannot be displayed Cannot view XML input using style sheet.
Please correct the error and then click the Refresh (http://javascript<b></b>:location.reload()) button, or try again later.

An invalid character was found in text content. Error processing resource 'file:///G:/AndroidThemes/workspace/framework-res...

All this stuff has got me really nervous and I'm just tryin to figure out what I'm doing wrong and what the error is.

Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated.

Hey Shawn,

I am trying to follow these instructions but they are a little confusing. I don't have any problem finding the eri.xml and opening it in xml editor on my computer but Ninjamorph is throwing prompts which are not mentioned in this guide.

Ninjamorph asks me if I want to resign the project. Yes/No?

Ninjamorph asks me if I want to install the project vs. just copying it. Yes/No?

Also, I am using Liberty ROM and the line in the eri.xml document is of course modified to display "Liberty v2.0.1". In this eri.xml, there are no periods before or after 64-65. How many spaces (characters included) should exist between 64-65 for it to work? Are the periods actually necessary or are they just place holders because Liberty has no periods in the eri.xml and it works.

Thank you!

I'ma need your help d00d. I cant find it anywhere. Intuition tells me it would be in screen lock settings or spare parts but I can't find it anywhere in the toolbox. I'm ready to begin if you're ready to guide me. Already have eri.xml open in editor on PC.

Thanks in advance :)

[EDIT]

Ok, so in this version of Liberty ROM, between lines 64 and 65 there are a total of 22 spaces (characters included). Between 64 and Liberty, there are 3 spaces (no characters). Between v2.0.1 and 65, there are 4 spaces. The text within 64-65 reads exactly "Liberty v2.0.1" (no quotes). Also note the space between Liberty and v2.0.1

Hope this helps. Thanks.

Ok once it extracts back out do nothing else with nimjamorph

Conect to pc and open file browser navagate to androidthemes/workspace/frameworkres/res/xml

Copy the eri.xml to desktop

Open hex editor make edits to copy on desktop then save

Move the copy from desktop to root of sd card

Disconect from pc

Start ninjamorph select existing project
Now this is where you want to exchange the eri.xml in androidthemes/workspace/frameworkres/res/xml
With the one on the root of your sd card

Okay so I was able to change the text using HxD, but I'm having problems changing the image itself. I set the text to all spaces correctly, (No issues, just a blank bar). I went into the hdpi folder and found the status_bar_header_background.9.png and made a new image in photoshop. it was 480x57 and i saved it over the old bar. i loaded up it up and the text vanished as desired but the picture wont show up. What can i do? Also on a side note ,the app to change the boot animation isnt working either.

Im on gb rooted .596.

If you are on gb then you need to go into the systemui.apk
Take the same image you used and swap it with the one named title bar portrait
When morphing the systemUI u will get force closes when finished just pull battery and restart. Phone

Thanks man, you're a life saver. I was baffled. So can it be assumed that for any other changes (such as battery icon, 3g icon, etc)?

Yes any time you morph the systemui it will start force closing as it is constantly running and the changes mess with it battery pull and restart resets it

Is it still necessary to change the framework-res.apk?

For WiFi, 3g signal battery I don't think so at least I haven't but for the dropdown images they are in both just named diff so these I change out in both places

Could I use this to remove the battery icon and its warning?

Don't think so you could use ninjamorph to replace icon but think removing it would require a Xml edit somewhere
