Sounds good..I liked this post, think I'll check it out now...

"After you do the SBF, you will have a mish-mash of your current ROM and official stock. Once you do a factory reset using Motorola's built-in recovery, you will be 100% stock with no traces of root."

... I thought P3 mentioned something about not being able to root this update.... so root IS possible with this version?

if so, that's great.

No 2.3.340 was the last official update Martin. The one that brought Madden. The one that is currently unrootable is Gingerbread.

thank you sir.

the numbers game (ie 2.3, 2.4 blah blah blah) always mixes me up.

so the GB is still un rootable... I'm good now!

Last I heard yes. I can only hope that it will eventually be rooted. If not then it is hello Thunderbolt for me.

same here... because if GB isn't rootable for the X the chance of the Bionic (and any other Moto phone) being rootable will be ZERO IMO.

SUCCESS!!! Everything is as it should be, Android 2.2.1 System Version 2.3.340, Madden is there, and No Bootstrap or Tranquility Toolbox leftovers..Sweet..

Z4root worked perfectly..Happy little SuperUser icon there...It all just worked perfectly! Happy Dance time!

For completeness sake, I used it with RSDlite 4.9 running on Win 7 Home 32 bit..

After RSD finished, pulled battery, rebooted into Moto restore, wiped data/factory reset, reboot and it's all good...

There is a Froyo build that hasn't been rooted but its 3.4.2. Not been leaked yet.

SUCCESS!!! ...

Does this do anything more/newer/different than the maderstcok OTA? I like the convenience of an update.zip, but if this is more current in terms of radio, kernel, etc. then it would be nice to know...if anyone can figure that out.

it does the same thing as maderstcok, just in a different way. If you can get to bootstrap, use maders .zip, if you can't you can flash sbf.

No, it's the same kernel, radio etc...

Two useful things about this:

1. Before this came out, you had to SBF to 2.3.320, then patch it to get to the full .340..Now, you can fully SBF directly to .340, do a factory reset, and have the phone completely stock. Even with the maderstcok.zip, if you wanted to return the phone to VZW for service etc., you still had to perform a few steps to get Bootstrap uninstalled. Those steps are no longer needed as Bootstrap is already gone upon rebooting from the SBF..

2. If something has gone horribly wrong and you can't boot into the green clockwork screen, you can use this to get back to 100% stock form. This is done by getting into bootloader mode (hold camera button, vol down and power at the same time, then release power). Now you can hook it up to your computer and follow the SBF flashing guides..

Hope this helps..

Correct. There is no need for the full 2.3.320 or system only 2.3.340. This full 2.3.340 SBF is all that is needed in the event of a major malfunction.

Ok, so since I'm still pretty much a noob at all this......

The Official 2.3.340 SBF is used in the event of having to take your phone back to Verizon for service?
What's the SBF's purpose, and what does SBF stand for?
Do I download this and put it in the root of my SD card just in the event of needing to take my DX in for service?

Sorry to ask a few questions, but I have no clue what all this is and I'm really interested to find out. Thanks in advance for any help I get.

1. Yes or if you brick it
2. Reset to stock. Stock base format I believe
3. No, download on a pc along with rsdlite v4.8+ its a file ran on the pc while the phone is connected
