Is this the latest/greatest one or is there a better/right one I should be using?

OPTICALDELUSION: sbf_flash (http://blog.opticaldelusion.org/2010/05/sbfflash.html)

All this Linux talk has motivated me to fire up a VM for my Mac and load Ubuntu (a Debian-derived Linux distribution BTW )

Just want to be "ready". That and I have some free time and have not messed with Linux in a while.

That all depends on if the VM software can pass through the USB ports from the host OS. I don't have a clue about Mac VM software but most Windows VM software does now.

What I would do instead of a VM is fire up Puppy from a USB thumb drive and just run the flash that way.
