I know SBF stands for "Summation Briefcase File" but what exactly is that?

I think it's System Behavior Function. It is a file that completely wipes the phone out and returns it to out-of-the-box-stock

The abbreviation is the same, Compact Disc Read Only Memory, here's a wiki explanation

Read-only memory (ROM) is a class of storage (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_storage) media used in computers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer) and other electronic devices. Data stored in ROM cannot be modified, or can be modified only slowly or with difficulty, so it is mainly used to distribute firmware (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firmware) (software (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software) that is very closely tied to specific hardware (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_hardware), and unlikely to need frequent updates). A ROM like we flash is like a firmware update
