Android 2.3 with Motoblur on Droid X leaked

A series of screenshots found (http://macnn.com/rd/192802==http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-x-discussion/6294-pictures-gingerbread-droidx-not-port.html#post54937) over on the MyDroidWorld (http://www.mydroidworld.com) forum have shown off an unofficial build of Android 2.3 running on the Motorola (http://www.electronista.com/articles/11/02/01/android.23.with.motoblur.on.droid.x.leaked/#) Droid X (http://macnn.com/rd/192803==http://www.electronista.com/articles/10/06/23/moto.droid.x.reaching.verizon.july.15.for.200.us/). The device also comes with the prerequisite Motoblur interface overlaid atop the OS. How or where these images came from isn't being revealed, so the build isn't necessarily sanctioned.

The Motorola interface is said to be much improved from previous iterations, and may challenge HTC's (http://www.electronista.com/articles/11/02/01/android.23.with.motoblur.on.droid.x.leaked/#) Sense for overall fit and finish. If the leak is of a real, official handset, it's possible the Android 2.3 update with the new Motoblur for the Droid X is coming soon. Google has said that any device that can run Android 2.2 can support 2.3 at least as well.

I returned my DX to stock today for fun and got lucky. At first it went into a bootloop, so I plucked the sd card and booted without it. Problem solved. Then I shut down, replaced card, rebooted, and formatted the card. Good to go.
Now I am just going to wait for the update. Then I might wait until the new Liberty comes....

I've been following p3droid on twitter and he is having trouble rooting the new build. None of the currently known methods are working. And from what I gather, the build he's working with won't work with our consumer phones, just the unlocked dev phones. I wouldn't be holding my breath for a leak, it looks like it's still going to be a while.

And with Googles announcement that 2.4 will be released soon (still gingerbread) they may wait for that. I think Ice Cream was going to be 3.1. Though we may not see that version.

I'm pretty sure you can grab the update as soon as it's available, WHEN it's available by clicking "check for updates" in setup. Before I started rooting/ROMing I followed "Motola Matt" on their forum and signed up for updates. That way I was notified when official updates went out. That allowed me to grab the update rather than wait the extra day or two for the OTA. (Wow, I sound like an impetuous child now...)

Anyway, it's something to consider. here's a link (https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/297460#297460)to the actual notification I received when 2.2 came out. He's the guy you want to "Follow" to get the updates.

Good luck out there!

This thread is concerning an unofficial release of Gingerbread, so you might not have to do anything besides flash a .zip in clockwork if/when it becomes available. The dev's will let us know what to do when the time comes. Hope this helps...

Several people have commented on how "good" it looks. Did I miss something? Without the captions, there is no way to distinguish it from a mildly themed Froyo phone. I'm sure Gingerbread will be delightful, but those screen shots don't really tell us anything.

To clarify, Android version 2.3.3 is also Gingerbread, but with some bug fixes in it. There has been no official mention that the X either will, or will not, receive Gingerbread...

All we know at this point is that the developers are trying to root the Gingerbread code that is out...They have it working fine on the X, but without root access...

Hope this helps to clear things up..

I'm sure they won't skip us, it just takes longer to get this stuff working on the DX (look at Froyo), probably because all the best DX coders are working on this forum...leaving Moto to take what they can get. Between Liberty and Apex, I'll never go stock again.

I would really like to check it out before I get my new Thunderbolt. But, chances are, I will have a new phone before we get the update. If we get it..... ;-)

If they pursue this, I wouldn't expect too much in resources for upgrades to their current and near-eol droid phones.

I feel like that would just be a waste of their development if they're going to release gingerbread shortly after, unless the new blur is going to be on gingerbread.

Thats true, I guess the ROM would be dependent on the OS, so maybe we will see Gingerbread first? Unless new Blur can run on both... who knows, I just hope we get some sort of update soon.

I agree, but I read also on one of the and' blogs HTC's new phones bootloaders are locked down as well. Thunderbird I think. Nexus one? LOL
In my perfect world, phones would have an option run vanilla or blur-sense-whiz-bloat with unlocked bootloaders and disclaimer of if you brick it, you own it.
But in my perfect world, there would be no brick-able phones.

There currently is not Gingerbread for Droid X, P3Droid, one of the great developers, has an unstable version running on his Milestone, which is the Droid X Dev Phone, completely unlocked. The only leak we have that we can install in the new Moto Blur 3.4.2.

Anyways, back to Moto wanting their own OS.... I can't even finish that without laughing...
HTC would get my business if they so choose to do so... Moto builds hardware, not software, we saw that with Blur that they don't have the brightest software developers. Leave the software dev to actually software devs lol. Only Apple can do both and get away with a great all in one product.

Both of the commonly used root exploits, rageagainstthecage and psneuter are both blocked. That means z4 and superoneclick do not work. You can get z4 to tell you it's rooted if you try enough times, but it's not. We are going to need a new method to root this, period. So unless you're working on one, save yourself the time and don't bother trying with existing methods.

If you can't root the 2.3 leak. Then it's not really worth downloading.

Yes, actually it is. Don't knock it if you haven't tried it, GB is far superior to Froyo. I am getting better Quadrant scores (yeah, I know...) on stock 2.3 than I was with 2.2 ROM's.

By the end of the week, I bet it will be rooted.....

New Blur is a step up for sure, the new stock home launcher is nice with the new profiles, so you can literally have unlimited combos of home screens, 7 at a time lol

This is I'm sure addressed all over the place. Once you flash it, you're done unless you SBF I guess through RSDLite. Correct?

I'm kinda screwed in that regard, because I haven't set up a Windows boot on this Mac so I can't run RSDLite.

I was able to get the file from a mirror site 181,314,010 bytes.
I'm holding myself back to learn up so I don't screw up.. Probably wise, but she's sitting there in the TBH folder.. Dumped it over from the mac.

Yes, the only way back is .sbf in RSD Lite. The file size is correct as well.

Well, if you're not rooted, then you have no way to flash it. After its rooted, that should work...

From what I've read over at MDW, rooting this bad-boy is going to be a real challenge. They've already thrown a bunch at it, but the cats at Moto-rizon certainly didn't play with locking it down. They're probably all giggling right now thinking "Root this one boys! Bring it!".

Did you wipe data and cache or not. The instructions say not to unless bootloop but Im noticing that many people having sync issues and wondered if related to not wiping data. Any thoughts before I go. Im on the launching pad. Have all my backups etc.

Edit: followed the directions and I almost made it. Started to ask which launcher to use and bam bootloop. Have done data/cache wipe in gingystock recovery and am restarting up. Hope all goes well from here on it. Should of waited till morning but too excited!

Manual root no go... I asked the devs...I am not the man for the job.

FreeMyMoto leader aliasxerog is patching in a previous exploit so that we can use old root methods.. hopefully root within the week.

I'm having those sync issues....I try and boot into stock recovery to wipe data/cache but I get the exclamation point with the Droid man...how do I get to Gingerbread recovery to wipe data/cache?
