Help please! I can't get youtube videos to play, I can't play any music on my phone. I recently manually deodexed and rooted my droid x just fine, but now it won't play any media it seems. Anyone have any ideas? I"m desperate.

did you make a backup after rooting prior to manually deodexing?

Yes, though I figured there must be some way to fix it other then restoring.

Perhaps try using a different player. Try Meridian Media Player since it plays both music and videos and see if it plays so we can pinpoint the problem. There's a free version in the market

I've tried multiple players now, and playing youtube videos. Nothing worked :(

Are you on stock ROM? are you on the latest OTA?
If Youtube isnt working, might want to install the latest Youtube if you don't have the latest version

Yes to all of that, it might be worthy to mention that I bricked my phone my first attempt at deodexing. I restored it and did it again and it worked perfectly. I love the way my phone is except for I can't play music.

hmm I would try wiping data/cache or restoring that backup
I think when you manually deodexed botched something

Alright, so I restored it, and I still can't play music/watch video? Should I try restoring to factory defaults? Would that remove everything off my phone?

When you reset a phone all the information stored inside is wiped out. All your private data is deleted. Your phone will be as it was when you bought it.

Ok, I restored it to factory defaults and it still doesn't work... :(

hmm seems like you've tried pretty much everything... dunno if anyone else here can chime in with possible solution
but we're getting close to maybe having to do a SBF here

not sure what that is hah

hmm, let's check the contents of your SD card
make sure your files are not corrupted, plug in phone to pc via "usb mass storage"
and open up whatever folder the media you are trying to play and try playing the files on your pc
