View Full Version : Wifi tether question...

12-15-2010, 07:15 AM

I'm expecting to get a 16gb wifi ipad for christmas from the wife... and I wanted to get the wifi tether going on my droid x.

If I root, will that allow me to just install a wifi tether app, and can i keep it stock other than that, or do i have to go through all the trouble of installing a custom ROM. I did it before on my previous Droid X that was faulty, just to make sure it was the hardware and not a bad OTA, but I'm perfectly happy with it stock, except for the lack of wifi tether.

Thanks so much!

All you need for the wifi teather is root. You can remain on stock rom

Wireless tether is one of the biggest advantages of rooting. I don't use it very often but it is nice to have when I need it. Broadband outage, on the go, etc......

I have an iPad and I use the Wireless Tether app and it works great if you're rooted. If your not yet rooted, a great method is to use z4 root. This works even with the OTA .340 update. Like the above user said, you don't need a custom ROM for it to work. Hope I haven't confused you. :)
