I'll start by saying that I got laid off a couple months ago and my home internet got turned off, but I have been able to keep my cell phone on (thanks Dad!).

I have a desktop and a laptop and have had success with both Wireless Tether (http://www.appbrain.com/app/wireless-tether-for-root-users/android.tether) with my laptop and the free PDANet (http://www.appbrain.com/app/pdanet-free-edition/com.pdanet) on my desktop using USB. However, when I use PDANet on my desktop, it knocks out filesharing to my PS3, which is all my son has now to watch videos that I have on my hard drive. Is there something I am doing wrong? Sure, I could use my laptop, but it is an old piece of garbage and my desktop is my baby.

Desktop = Windows 7

Laptop = Windows XP

No. My main concern is to get 'net on my desktop, which does not have wi-fi, but still have the ability to stream to my PS3. It seems as though the enabling of the PDANet network connection is disabling my Ethernet connection......

Oh, I thought you had you're internet shut off, thus disabling your ethernet connection?
If you have you're ethernet hardwired to the PS3, then connecting your phone to the PC should have no conflict?
Idk if this if the setup you have? If not, can u please explain you're exact setup?

Oh, I apologize for not clarifying that bit. My PS3 is wireless through my router (dd-wrt) which is hard wired to my desktop. My desk with my modem/router/desktop is at one side of my living room and my PS3 is in the main area with the TV. I do have a long enough cat5, but I have two young boys who would most definitely trip over the cable that would have to be strewn along the floor.

What appears to be happening is the PDANet network connection is over-riding my ethernet connection, thus disabling the connection to the router and, ultimately, the PS3.

No, I mean it doesn't work for the DroidX.

From the FAQ

This app has been tested on the ADP1 (T-Mobile G1) and Google Nexus One.

A kernel with the enabled RNDIS features needs to be applied on your mobile.

Maybe I'm just too noob?

Why do you say that? Seemed to work fine when I tested it on my system. Don't need it so I don't use it regularly. I just tested for the chance that I might but it seemed fine.

It didn't work. Everything connected just fine, it said it was working: but no 'net.

Hmmmm I would look at your computer settings. Make sure any firewall or anti-virus is not stopping the connection. If a router is present this may also need some setting up.

When I used it it hooked right up and took off after the driver install.

Here is a screen just to show that it is only effectively disabling my ethernet connection, not literally.

No dice there. I went so far as disabling my firewall (AVG).

How would my router be affecting it since my phone is connecting via USB and the router via ethernet?

Some routers have builtin firewalls is all I was thinking.

I just found something odd. The streaming isn't effected: it is just the ability for the PS3 to find the media server. So for example: if the kids are already watching a movie on the PS3, it does not get interrupted if I enable PDANet. However, if I go to "search for media servers" on the PS3 and PDAnet is already enabled, it won't find my desktop. Odd.

I am having the same issue with all tether programs. No internet access even with the 3g hotspot. Anyone has more tips?
