I have rooted before and have seen the ninja icon. Now I rooted with Z4root and there is a skull and crossbones icon and there are options in it for logging etc. What's the difference with these?

Thanks for the responses. That's what I was guessing. I like the fact that it gives you notifications now when an app uses its superuser permissions.

I personally like the skull / crossbones over the ninja...

For the record rooting does not do much else but add two files. The SU command (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Su_(Unix)) itself and Busybox (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Busybox)

When you "root" you phone it is not that big of a change. Yes the things you can do now are endless but it was not a BIG change on your phone
