I have held out on rooting until now, just did it and it only took about 30 seconds. Just turn USB debugging on in the settings->apps->development, run the app and..... poof, superuser icon in your app drawer.

A lot of people have been waiting for this day for a long time. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome, now I'm finally going to root my phone. :)

Just an FYI, this is not temporary root like many believe. It was originally designed to temp root the G2 but this is full permanent root for the DX

Did you test it with a reboot? I was noticing that it had an option in your screenshot to run on boot - so that must be for the G2?

What about Unrooting. This doesn't have an option to do that so do we have to Unroot the hard way?

@STG, yes, I've tested it with numerous reboots. The bootroot must be for other devices
@superfly, yeah, old school unroot

It shouldn't take that long, just exit from it and restart it, nothing bad will happen. I had to retry it 3 times, the third time it rooted in about 15 seconds. If it freezes up just restart your phone.

Now I read this... I almost freaked out when mine froze for about 40 min before I pull the battery. I tried it again but it didn't root, so it's working on #2.

+1 back out of the app
I restarted mine first, then the usb debugging setting, then the app took about 15 secs.

The app froze... pulled battery after 10 minutes. Now running a second time... cannot recommend this app due to crashing the phone.

Trying a second time.... after 1 minute, nothing.. red circling under clock still spinning... just came back to phone... 5 minutes later now and same thing. Looks like the app froze again. I'll let it go another 10 minutes then screw it and I'll pull the battery again. Might consider trying again another time but for now this is getting uninstalled.

It's a trial and error app, it needs improvement. If you keep going at it though, you'll eventually get it to work.

I can say it works after 3 attempts

It worked in 15 seconds my first time. The app wasn't designed for the X it was for the G2, it's just a happy accident it works at all on the X

So should those with the X not use it? I don't want to brick my X and I'm new to rooting. Have been jail breaking my iphone since the iPhone first gen, so I'm slighty capable.

Idk, I've never rooted a droid before I used this yesterday. It was seriously as easy as downloading any app from the market and opening it, and like I said, it worked in seconds the first time I used it.

Where were these apps when I got my X....I had to learn ABD to root mine. Glad I got the opportunity though.

I would not mind going the long route to root. Like I mentioned, I've been jailbreaking my iPhones since they first launched in 2007. In 2007 jailbreaking was not as easy as they make it now but it sure gave me the opportunity to learn and troubleshoot my issues far better than most out there. My hesitation is that I am not yet sure I understand rooting as much as I should but I want to because as stupid as this sounds, I want to take a damn screenshot of my homescreen and I can't without rooting. It is by far the lamest thing about the Droid X ... perhaps the only lame thing I can see so far. :)

I am typing in Visionary into the search for the android market and it is not coming up. Did they pull it off of the market?

I got mine from the marketplace on this past Sunday night but it looks like it's gone now.

Download it here:
VISIONary | AndroidApplications.com (http://androidapplications.com/132241-visionary)
Use your barcode scanner and get a download link on your phone.

Looks like they pulled it from the market, the link doesn't work either because it is a market search link.

You can still get it from the dev, also looks like an unroot option is forthcoming

The best root and un root out there in my opinion is rootmyx2. It worked for me on mine and two of my buddies phones

Does that work for mac? I think visionary does.

I finally just did it, I have no idea what to do next but I'll figure it out. How do you know if you are on a perm root? I rooted, then opened the app and unchecked "root on reboot" and rebooted. I am still rooted because I can do a SS. Does that sound right?

VISIONary works with mac, linux, windows, amiga, sendla or whatever you have because you don't need a computer to use it, it's an app
